Barcelona forward Raphinha has admitted that he is still not operating at 100% fitness ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou.
The Brazilian is working his way back after experiencing discomfort in his right thigh while representing Brazil during the international break, an issue that prompted him to leave the national squad as a precaution.
With Hansi Flick preparing his team for one of the biggest matches of the season, Raphinha’s physical condition remains an important consideration.
The winger has returned to action but acknowledged that he still has work to do before reaching his best level.
Asked directly whether he had regained full fitness, Raphinha admitted that his recovery was not yet complete, although he remains encouraged by how he feels.
> “No. Not yet. I’m still working towards reaching 100 per cent fitness, but I feel in good shape – very good, in fact.”
Raphinha warns Barcelona against underestimating Real Madrid
Raphinha also addressed Jose Mourinho’s return to Camp Nou, with the Real Madrid manager set to experience the atmosphere of the stadium during El Clasico.
Rather than focusing on the opposition coach, the Barcelona forward made clear that he wants the home supporters to remain behind the team throughout the contest.
> “When Mourinho was here before, I wasn’t here, so I can’t tell you what to expect from the fans.
> “But what I want is for our fans to be behind us from start to finish, no matter what happens during the match.”
The Brazilian was also asked whether Vinicius Jr.’s absence would give Barcelona an advantage.
While the Madrid forward will not feature, Raphinha refused to suggest that his absence would significantly reduce the threat posed by their rivals, pointing instead to the quality available throughout the Madrid squad.
> “I can’t say his absence will be a good thing for us, because Real Madrid ultimately have plenty of players capable of deciding matches.
> “It’s true that Viní will not be there, but there are other players who can step into his role and make a difference in a fixture of this magnitude.”
Barcelona forward praises Valverde’s versatility
Raphinha was equally complimentary when discussing Federico Valverde, whose ability to operate in midfield or at full-back gives Real Madrid tactical flexibility.
The Uruguayan’s energy and willingness to contribute in different positions make him an important figure for Mourinho, regardless of where he starts.
Asked about Valverde’s role at full-back, Raphinha highlighted the qualities that make him effective across multiple positions.
> “Fede can drive forward from midfield and provide the team with plenty of options when he plays at full-back.
> “Ultimately, he’s an amazing player who performs brilliantly in midfield and also excels when playing out wide.
> “Fede and Vini are the driving force behind Real Madrid; they’re the sort of players who give their team a lot of work and effort, regardless of the position they play in,” he concluded.
