Leeds Fans Will be Fearing Jean-Kevin Augustin Repeat With Bahoya

One Leeds player's lack of minutes are beginning to become a concern

Leeds United completed some exciting transfer business during the summer window, none more so than the addition of Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

After becoming the first promoted club - along with Sunderland - in three seasons to stay in the Premier League, it was clear that further strong investment was needed in the summer to ensure that Leeds progressed, rather than standing still.

Leeds' summer signings:

While there may be some complaints that another striker was needed, Daniel Farke can't have too many issues with what the 49ers delivered for him, with the additions of Muharamemovic, Wilson and Trafford particularly impressive on paper.

Still, the signing that maybe caused the most excitement was Bahoya, who joined on a season-long loan deal from Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day.

The loan fee for the 21-year-old was £1.7m, with the Yorkshire outfit having a buy option worth £19.7m, with a further £4.3m in add-ons possible.

Having made 37 appearances for the Bundesliga club last term, including eight in the Champions League, expectations have been high for the Frenchman.

He is the fastest recorded player in Bundesliga history, coming in only marginally slower than Usain Bolt during his world-record 100-metre run in 2009.

Leeds fans have been desperate to see his explosive pace on the Elland Road turf, but so far he has been an unused substitute for the three matches he has been available for.

While it isn't a massive surprise that minutes have been limited after the forward had a limited pre-season, some eyebrows were raised when he wasn't given a cameo at the end of the Newcastle United match on Monday night, as they led 4-0 up until the 91st minute.

It appeared to be the perfect opportunity to get him on the pitch in a comfortable match situation, especially as he was due to come on against Chelsea previously before Melvin Bard picked up an issue.

Farke is known for giving players time to bed in and adapt to life at Leeds, but it did seem like a strange decision to not use that opportunity to give Bahoya a late debut.

It would be no surprise if Leeds fans were getting a bit twitchy about Bahoya's lack of minutes, given some of the situations the club has found themselves in previously.

Of course, the main example is that of Jean-Kevin Augustin.

There was huge excitement among the Elland Road faithful when the Yorkshire outfit signed the French forward from RB Leipzig on loan until the end of the season, when they were a Championship club.

It proved to be one of the most disastrous periods in the club's recent history however, as he barely played for the club because of injury.

However, they were eventually ordered to pay Leipzig £18m for an before they were ordered to pay £18.4m to Leipzig for a 'purchase obligation' they had, after an appeal to CAS was rejected.

Leeds were then also ordered to pay the player himself £24.5m in compensation following a breach of contract, in what proved to be the worst deal in the club's history.

Augustin now plays for Yverdon Sport FC in the Swiss second tier, with the 29-year-old still having plenty of football left to play in his career.

While there is nothing to suggest that Bahoya's Leeds career will follow the same path, you can understand the angst as each game goes by and he doesn't play.

However, Farke has already tempered expectations of the 21-year-old, while praising his attributes.

> He has a lot of potential; his pace is unbelievable, and skills; anyhow, of course, he has to develop a bit; he has the skills as well.

Farke made no secret of the fact that he wanted an experienced attacking option in the summer, but now he has Bahoya and we wait to see when the German coach will unleash him.
