Leeds Must Move On From Lukas Nmecha As Contract Update Emerges

· GiveMeSport

Leeds United must decide on Lukas Nmecha's future amid contract uncertainty and the need for a stronger striker.

Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha looks set to be out of contract at the end of the season, and it's time for the Yorkshire club to move on.

Nmecha is currently the backup option to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack for Daniel Farke, and Leeds now have a decision to make on his future.

The 27-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions so far this season, but he's only played a total of 91 minutes in the Premier League.

Nmecha is going to seriously struggle to displace Calvert-Lewin from Farke's eleven, as shown by his lack of minutes this season.

Nmecha has undoubtedly been a useful option for Leeds since his arrival, but it could be time for the Yorkshire club to move on from him.

According to journalist Beren Cross, Leeds do have the option to extend Nmecha's deal by a further year .

> “I would need to check. But from second-hand conversations with the club, Nmecha’s contract has an option. He may well be [free to talk to other clubs from January 1st].”

Although Leeds might be considering extending his deal in order to retain his value, they could still look to sell the German forward.

Keeping him in order to sell him wouldn't be the worst solution, but Leeds do need to be moving on from him if they want to progress.

Calvert-Lewin is clearly the starting striker at the moment, and Nmecha is only going to become increasingly frustrated if his minutes don't increase.

Signing a new striker could be one of Leeds's priorities going forward, which could push Nmecha down to third choice.

The Whites could be in the market for a new striker in January

There's a clear drop-off between Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha for Leeds, and Farke's side need to invest in a new striker if they want to progress.

Leeds have shown over the last couple of seasons that they have a really strong XI capable of competing in the Premier League, but they'll be looking to go a step further.

To do so, they'll need to increase their squad depth, not just in terms of numbers, but also quality.

Finding a striker who is just as good as, if not better than, Calvert-Lewin should be one of their priorities, especially if they end up qualifying for Europe.

Farke needs to have players all over the pitch that can compete with each other, rather than Calvert-Lewin knowing he's going to start every week.

It's time for Leeds to move on from Nmecha, but that doesn't necessarily mean they should let his contract run down.
