Brian Farinas is yet to feature for Barcelona this season after being promoted to the first-team squad but could potentially get some minutes in the wake of Xavi Espart’s injury.
The full-back has been sidelined for seven weeks with an ankle problem, leaving Barcelona short at the back as they are also still currently without Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen.
Mundo Deportivo are now talking up the possibility of Farinas being deployed as an emergency right-back due to Barcelona’s injury situation.
Farinas did feature at full-back during pre-season, actually replacing Espart during a friendly against Birmingham City , suggesting he could potentially be an option.
Flick has made it clear he’s keen to give Farinas minutes this season but the continued competition for places is making that extremely difficult.
> “As for Brian, he surprised me in preseason,” he said back in August. “He’s a great talent, very committed, and can play in several positions. It’s fantastic to see how much he’s improved. It’s not easy for him because there are fantastic players in his position, but he deserves to play.”
