Match-winner Maxi Beier suddenly found himself holding a piece of paper shortly after the game.

Looking puzzled, he initially stood beside his coach Niko Kovac, who had made an inspired decision by bringing him on earlier and had passed him the mysterious piece of paper, before wandering around the pitch. He looked around searchingly and seemed unsure where exactly the paper had come from.

When he showed it to his teammate Jobe Bellingham and explained the situation, Bellingham seemed to find it pretty funny. Beier then tucked it into his sock, carried on with the usual post-match routine and enjoyed the celebrations after scoring the game's only goal.

Asked about the piece of paper by Sky, Beier revealed what it was all about. It was no ordinary slip of paper, but an admission ticket.

“It was a ticket for tomorrow, for the PDC,” Beier revealed. He was referring to the European Darts Championship taking place in Dortmund, which Beier, a huge fan and connoisseur of the sport, is naturally following with great interest.

It was apparently a gift from a supporter. When asked, “You just got it from a fan?” Beier replied, “Yes, but I don't know who,” and looked questioningly towards the stands again.

If the Dortmund striker does go, one familiar face he would see at Dortmund's Westfalenhalle is his good friend Stephen Bunting, who was also at Signal Iduna Park last night. The darts star faces Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals. Will Beier now return the visit?
