Barcelona supporters still look back fondly upon their time under Luis Enrique and the famous MSN trio that helped them win a treble.
Neymar Junior has now surprised Barcelona supporters by naming his time at PSG as the peak of his footballing career.
Despite enjoying some of football’s most memorable moments alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou , Neymar chose his time in France.
Neymar explains why he considers PSG his peak
The Brazilian made the revelation during a conversation with content creator Davoo Xeneize, as quoted by SPORT .
Neymar explained why he considers himself a better individual player in Paris than he was during his four seasons at Barcelona.
> “For me, it was at Paris Saint-Germain,” Neymar said when asked to identify the prime of his career.
> “I know people remember my time at Barcelona with MSN, but as a player, it was in Paris because I felt strong, I was fast and intelligent.”
It is clear that although he may not have enjoyed the same kind of collective success at PSG, he sees his individual peak as being much higher.
At Barcelona, Neymar formed the legendary MSN attacking trio with Messi and Suarez, helping the Catalans win the Champions League in 2015 under Luis Enrique.
His four seasons at the club also established him as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players and arguably the best after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, even casual watchers will know that Neymar became much more than a winger, serving as the creative force for PSG, which explains the thought process behind his answer.
Barcelona remains central to Neymar’s legacy
Neymar’s assessment may come as a surprise, particularly given the extraordinary football he produced in the famous Blaugrana shirt.
His contributions to the 2015 treble and the historic Champions League comeback against PSG remain unforgettable.
A player’s personal assessment of his peak can differ from how supporters remember his career.
Neymar may have felt more complete in Paris, but Barcelona provided the stage on which he became a global superstar.
During the same conversation, the Brazilian also admitted that he rarely watches football in his free time.
> “Sitting on the sofa, turning on the television and watching a match… I can’t do it,” he explained.
He recalled becoming frustrated when friends spent entire weekends watching matches during his years in Barcelona and Paris.
Neymar was also repeatedly linked with a return to the Catalan club in the latter years of his career but a move never transpired.
Now playing for Santos, Neymar also joked that he intends to spend his first year after retirement doing very little.
Neymar’s words offer an insight into how he looks back at his own career. Barça fans will always remember the Brazilian fondly and, in the end, that is what matters.
