La Liga champions Barcelona will not be able to depend on the contributions of a leading member of the club’s defensive ranks in their upcoming clash with arch rivals Real Madrid.
This comes amid confirmation that Jules Koundé has not recovered in time to play his part in Sunday’s Clásico.
Stopper Koundé for his part suffered an ankle injury last weekend, en route to Barcelona maintaining their perfect start to the La Liga campaign at the expense of Real Betis.
The Frenchman was in turn forced to sit out in midweek, as the Blaugrana were put to the sword by reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Hope remained that Koundé would ultimately recover in time to make himself available for selection to face Real Madrid, amid a shortage of options at the back in Hansi Flick’s squad at present.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, however, Barca’s headmaster confirmed that this will not be the case:
> “Jules Koundé will miss El Clásico. We don’t want to take any risks with him.”
