Forget Calvert-Lewin: Leeds Star Jayden Bogle Should Be In Next England Squad
· GiveMeSport
Leeds star Jayden Bogle deserves to get a call-up from England boss Thomas Tuchel this week.
Leeds United cruised to a dominant 4-1 win over Newcastle on Monday night to move up to third in the Premier League.
A Lewis Miley own goal was followed by Jayden Bogle, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Noah Okafor finding the back of the net in a brilliant performance, before Bazoumana Toure scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 90th minute to take away the team's clean sheet.
But Daniel Farke will be delighted by the way his team played at both ends of the pitch, and Bogle's performance in particular is likely to have caught the eye of England boss Thomas Tuchel.
Bogle's goal wasn't really his - Calvert-Lewin leaped like a salmon above the Newcastle defence to head into the net. But his header came off the back of the full-backs head on it's way in, and that has seen the goal given to him instead.
But his overall showing was absolutely terrific. He controlled the right flank on his own from the wing-back position, consistently posing a threat when attacking, and helping to lock down the Magpies attack at the back.
The Leeds star man successfully completed 100% of his cross attempts, won 100% of his tackle attempts, and was a powerful runner throughout the game. His performance earned him a 9/10 rating from LeedsLive , the same as Calvert-Lewin and Ao Tanaka, while he was officially named as man of the match by Sky Sports too.
Calvert-Lewin will likely be the man to get all the headlines for his showing, and with Thomas Tuchel set to select his England squad for the upcoming games against Spain, Czech Republic, and Croatia, he will be expecting a call-up following his strong start to the campaign.
But Bogle has been knocking on the door of the national team for a while now, and the 26-year-old may finally be about to get the attention of the staff if he continues to play at this level.
England have had an array of options at right-back in recent years, with the likes of Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Djed Spence, and Jarrel Quansah being selected for the role most recently.
But it's clear that Alexander-Arnold isn't in Tuchel's thinking, Spence is yet to feature this season since making the move to Inter Milan, and James has been playing primarily in midfield for Chelsea under Xabi Alonso. Tino Livramento has also been struggling for game time at Newcastle, and that could open the door for Bogle to come into the squad.
His energy and versatility mean he would be a great addition to the side, but he would also fit the system well and is in the form of his life. It would be a more than deserved call-up too, after a brilliant 12 months of form.
