Harry Kane is having one of the greatest individual seasons we have seen from a Bayern Munich player ever. With this in mind and his accomplishments with England at the World Cup over the past summer, it is no surprise why Kane is ranked as one of the key favorites to win the coveted Ballon d’Or in the coming days.
Despite all his greatness in the last year, historica lly, Bayern Munich players tend to be significantly overl ooked for global individual awards such as the Ballon d’Or, with robberies of Manuel Neuer, Franck Ribéry, and Robert Lewandowski quickly coming to mind. However, there are strong indications that Kane can finally break the ‘Bundesliga barrier’ to winning football’s biggest individual prize.
What is perhaps most surprising about Harry Kane’s candidacy is the fact he has never been included in the top 10 Ballon d’Or votes, which is more and more bizarre the more you think about it. This is a player who has been in the conversation for major tournament MVPs in virtually every international tournament since 2018 and someone who took Tottenham as close as it gets to Champions League glory.
Over his career, he has done everything one would need to do to deserve the award. Unfortunately, the award often goes to the best player on a team that wins the most trophies that seaso n. While Bayern Munich and England are strong contenders for that argument, it is Harry Kane’s individual performance that will ta ke him the furthest this time around.
Will Harry Kane earn his first Ballon d’Or and join a very decorated gr oup of footballers to have won the prize? Removing the Bayern Munich bias, there is a strong argument that he is the mos t deserving to win the award. Despite the lack of a World Cup or Champions League title to bolster his argument, his perform ance on its own is more than worthy. Let’s hope the voters feel the same.
