Per a release from FCBayern.com , Bayern Munich will have to make do without its captain for Sunday’s Bundesliga trip to SC Freiburg, with Manuel Neuer ruled out due to persistent tendonitis in his foot.

The club officially confirmed that the veteran goalkeeper would miss the match, which kicks off at 12:30 PM EDT (17:30 CEST). The setback comes at an inconvenient time for Bayern Munich, who are preparing for a difficult away fixture amid an already challenging week fo llowing Vincent Kompany’s health scare.

Neuer’s absence means Jonas Urbig is likely to take over between the posts. The young goalkeeper has been viewed as Neuer’s long-term successor, and another opportunity to demonstrate his readiness would be a signifi cant moment in his development.

However, Bayern Munich will need more than a confident performance from their goalkeeper to navigate a tricky encounter against SC Freiburg. The hosts are a dangerous opponent, and Bayern Munich cannot afford to let the uncertainty surrounding the squad’s availability become a distraction.

With Kompany recovering, Joshua Kimmich still away from the team for family reasons, and Kim Min-jae also unavaila ble, Bayern Munich have already lost several important figures for this weekend.

Neuer’s absence adds another complication, but the expectation remains the same — Bayern Munich must find a way to get the job done and return home with three points.
