Bayern Munich may have another unexpected challenge to deal with ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against SC Freiburg, with Manuel Neuer’s availability now in serious doubt.

According to Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ), Neuer missed today’s final training session at Säbener Straße ahead of the Freiburg match and was instead at the doctor’s office. While the exact nature of the issue has not been confirmed, his absence from the final session is hardly an encouraging sign with kickoff fast approaching.

As things stand, Jonas Urbig is likely to start in goal for Bayern Munich tomorrow.

The 22-year-o ld has long been viewed as Neuer’s long-term successor, and opportunities like this are precisely why Bayern Munich invested in his development. However, stepping in for the captain against a dangerous Freiburg side is no small assignment, particularly wi th Bayern coming off a demanding stretch of fixtures.

The situation is made even more concerning by Vincent Kompany’s own health issues. Th e Bayern Munich head coach reportedly collapsed at Säbener Straße on Friday and was taken to the hospital for medical attenti on. The club has yet to provide a comprehensive public update on his condition, leaving uncertainty surrounding his availability for Sunday’s match. With bo th Neuer and Kompany dealing with health concerns, Bayern Munich could face SC Freiburg without two of their most important figures.

An official update on Neuer’s condition will be crucial, but Bayern Munich may have to prepare for life without their captain once again.

If Neuer cannot go, the gloves are likely Urbig’s to lose.
