Real Madrid mounted a late comeback to defeat AS Roma 4-3 on at Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
One of the catalysts of the comeback win for Los Blancos was forward Endrick, who interestingly, happens to be a target for the Giallorossi heading into the January transfer window.
Coming on for Vinicius Jr. in the second period, the 20-year-old Brazilian star slotted in on the right flank and caused problems for the home team, before eventually finding the back of the net with a headed goal from Arda Guler’s cross.
Endrick, for his impactful display in the second period, was named the Man of the Match on Wednesday night.
More minutes for Endrick
Now, according to journalist Rodra (h/t Madrid Xtra ), Jose Mourinho plans to increase Endrick’s minutes on the field following his game-changing cameo against Roma.
The 20-year-old striker has struggled for minutes and prominence in the team this season after impressing on loan at Lyon during the second half of the season.
A pre-season injury, coupled with the arrivals of Carlos Espi and Yan Diomande during the summer transfer window affected the Brazilian international’s situation.
Up until the Roma fixture, he had only played four minutes this season, having come on as a substitute against Elche.
But that is now set to change with Endrick expected to have a greater role under Mourinho moving forward.
Loan ruled out
Endrick’s lack of minutes at the start of the season had led to growing speculations over the possibility of another loan exit in January, similar to his switch to Lyon earlier this year.
However, Mourinho has now firmly closed the doors on that possibility, confirming that he counts on the young forward and will not let him leave midway through the season.
> “Mark my words again, it is impossible for Endrick to be loaned out,” he said after the game.
As mentioned previously, AS Roma were one of the interested clubs, along with AC Milan, while there were also rumours of Aston Villa wanting to sign him.
However, going by Mourinho’s words, the possibility of Endrick leaving Real Madrid in the January window are now non-existent.
