Liverpool Serious Contenders to Sign Gilberto Mora for Andoni Iraola
· GiveMeSport
Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has reportedly stepped up the transfer bid
Goalscoring has been an issue for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, with the club scoring just seven goals in their opening six top flight fixtures this term.
To put that into context, Everton, Hull City and Ipswich Town have all netted more times than Liverpool during the 2026-27 campaign to date.
Of course, manager Andoni Iraola has been unable to call upon Hugo Ekitike because of injury, while Alexander Isak missed Sunday's match against Manchester City after picking up an injury while on international duty with Sweden.
Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo is also currently absent through injury, Florian Wirtz continues to flatter to deceive and Bradley Barcola is taking time to adapt to the rigours of English football.
The positive for Iraola is that Barcola finally got off the mark in a Liverpool shirt with a hat-trick against LASK in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and the Spanish boss will be hoping the France international can build upon that in the Premier League, starting against Brentford on Saturday.
Liverpool did look at signing a right-sided winger in the latter stages of the summer transfer window with heavy links to Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh, with the latter said to still be keen on securing a switch to Anfield .

Iraola could add more goals in a different area of the pitch too, with a move for Club Tijuana attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora.
Reports in recent weeks suggested that the Reds had actually made an offer for the Mexico international, but they were quickly downplayed.
However, according to TEAMtalk , the Merseysiders have stepped up their pursuit of the promising 18-year-old after new talks, and they are now considered 'serious' contenders to win the race for the wonderkid's signature.
Mora's career trajectory is quite remarkable really, given he only turned 18 years of age on Wednesday.
The teenager already has 13 senior caps for his country, including a start against England in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, and he is considered to be one of their best talents for many years.
Mora has been impressing at club level too with Club Tijuana, establishing himself as an impressive goalscoring midfielder who already has five goals in seven matches this season, while he has also played as a striker on occasion.

- Appearances: 62 - Starts: 39 - Minutes: 3.740 - Goals: 15 - Assists: 3
The midfielder clearly has an eye for goal and his record for a player who is barely 18 is impressive, and the hope would be that he could replicate his form in European football.
Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel was clearly aware of Mora's talents ahead of their World Cup encounter, and reserved some special praise for him.
> We are not surprised, we have seen his quality. It’s very impressive, he’s a very young and talented player. He doesn’t get nervous on the biggest stage. He’s a top player.
The Mexico international would likely need time to settle, but he has time to do that given Wirtz is already the first-choice option in the No.10 position.
What is exciting is the fact that Mora is the same age as Rio Ngumoha, who looks to have a huge future in a red shirt at Anfield.
Like Mora, he has already made numerous appearances for his club side and has three caps for England too, and the thought of those two being in the same starting XI in the future is mouthwatering.
The duo have already shown they have the quality to be the future of Liverpool's attack, and there is no doubt that it would be a huge coup if Julian Ward could win the race to bring Mora to Europe.
