Two Newcastle games live on Sky Sports

Two Newcastle games in late November will be shown live on Sky Sports.

First, Matthias Jaissle's side will host Premier League champions Arsenal at St James' Park on Saturday Night Football on November 21 at 5.30pm.

Then Newcastle's trip to Brighton will also be shown live on Sky on Sunday November 29, kick-off 2.05pm.

Jaissle: It's a really good start to the season

Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle heaped praise on his side's gutsy performance - and positive start to the season overall - after the 2-1 victory against Hull.

> “It was a tough match. We wanted to show a reaction after Leeds and we did it at a really high level in the first half – it was probably the best one so far in the season. > > “We could have killed the game, actually, if we scored a third goal – I think that would have been much, much easier than in the second half. > > “We need to be honest – there were many changes along the way. We have nine players injured – that didn’t help in the second half when Hull was bringing everything in our box, but I’m so proud. > > “Big, big, big, respect, and we are so happy to take the three points."

On Hull being relentless:

> “Yes, but we [were] too! > > “I think it’s a really good start [to the season] for what happened in the summer. > > “In this transition phase, with all the circumstances around, it has been a really good summer – now it’s time to reflect, to relax a bit, to get many players back after the break and we go again."

On Lewis Hall and Joe Willock’s goals:

> “It’s unbelievable that we can count on these two players for the start of the season, hopefully they can continue like this.”

Elanga could be back after international break

Latest from Sky Sports News' Keith Downie:

> "Anthony Elanga is making good progress recovering from his hamstring injury — and there is hope he could be back after the international break. > > "The Swedish winger missed the defeat to Leeds and won’t feature against Hull on Saturday. > > "Elanga had a second scan on the injury this week but is making progress quickly. > > "He won’t feature for Sweden in their four Nations League matches as Newcastle work on his rehab over the three-week break."

Jones Knows: Back Hull for another upset

Sky Sports' Lewis Jones:

There is something about a team getting absolutely battered that makes me interested in opposing them in their next game. It is not just the physical exertion of chasing shadows for 90 minutes - there is a psychological hangover that can linger.

Newcastle certainly got a beating at Leeds. They were 4-0 down before eventually losing 4-1, with Matthias Jaissle admitting afterwards that the result was "difficult to digest" and that his young side could not match Leeds' physicality.

When looking at teams conceding four or more goals in a Premier League game, excluding matches against Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, their record in their next game is horrible. Just one win from the last 15, alongside five draws and nine defeats.

That makes Hull or draw at 11/8 with Sky Bet interesting.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2

Hall called up to England squad with Livramento

Lewis Hall has been called up to Thomas Tuchel's England squad.

The Newcastle left-back missed out on the World Cup after not being selected - but the Magpies defender has been named in the Three Lions squad for the four Nations League matches starting this month.

Newcasatle defender Tino Livramento - who withdrew from the World Cup squad with injury - has also been selected.

Jaissle demands reaction as Newcastle take on Hull

Matthias Jaissle has called on his Newcastle players to “show the right reaction” following Monday’s 4-1 thrashing to Leeds.

The Magpies were stunned at Elland Road having found themselves three goals down at half-time before Noah Okafor added a fourth for the hosts and substitute Bazoumana Toure bagged a late consolation.

Defeat ended Newcastle’s unbeaten start to the season, and an injury-hit squad now face high-flying Hull at St James’ Park on Saturday, with Jaissle hoping to see a response ahead of the international break.

> “Really important, first of all, to show the right reaction after the Leeds match,” he said. > > “This is something we discussed now during the last days. We have fully aligned and fully committed to show in front of our fans a clear reaction. > > “Secondly, it’s always nice to finish a block before the national team break starts with a good result, that’s the second goal we have for that match. > > “We again are also optimistic, even though there are a couple of challenges now with some injured players – not only Anthony [Elanga], a couple of other players as well missing – but we’ll use that as an opportunity for others.”

A lengthy injury list means Elanga will be absent alongside Amar Dedic, Jacob Ramsey and Nico Gonzalez, while several other players who have been sidelined in recent weeks are also not expected to return in time for Saturday’s game.

This weekend marks the final round of Premier League fixtures before the international break, and Jaissle is hopeful the Tynesiders will have more players available when league action resumes next month.

> “First of all, I think with that amount of injuries it’s better for us that we have the break in that stage,” he said. > > “Other than that, probably I would have enjoyed to continue now improving, improving and improving. > > “But we face it like it is, we cannot influence it. Hopefully after the national team break our injury list is a bit shorter.”

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back against newly promoted Hull, who have made an unbeaten return to Premier League football.

Sergei Jakirovic’s side sit fourth in the table with two wins and two draws, having held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw in their last outing. However, Jaissle believes his team can exploit weaknesses in the Yorkshire side’s game.

> “Huge respect to my colleague because he’s doing an incredible job,” the Newcastle boss added. > > “Clear identity, they know exactly what to do, they know exactly where their strengths are and they try to deliver that on the pitch and hurt the opposition with their strength. > > “This is something we need to be aware. We need to take their strength away, using in the best possible way their weaknesses, and then we’re going to have a good result on Saturday.”

Woltemade off the mark for Juventus

Nick Woltemade opened his account for Juventus from the penalty spot in their Europa League match against NEC.

The German joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan deal in the summer.

Juve will pay a £3.5m loan fee to the Magpies, but there is no option or obligation to buy in the deal.

Woltemade joined Newcastle in a £69m deal in 2025.

Jaissle not expecting any injured players to return for Hull clash

Amar Dedic’s absence adds to Newcastle’s growing injury concerns as Jacob Ramsey is also set to miss out and Matthias Jaissle confirmed he is not expecting any of his currently sidelined players to return for Hull.

Nico Gonzalez is also not involved on Saturday having been forced off in the 19th minute of the Leeds match after being hit in the head with the ball.

Speaking about Gonzalez, Jaissle said:

> “It was just unlucky. It was not a big hit but the hit was strong enough and precise enough to knock him out. > > “Like I said also in the post-match press conference, we need to be smart. > > “We have the responsibility then to follow the protocol from the league, which I really think it’s so good that we are so advanced in that approach. > > “He’s missing Saturday’s match but he’s feeling much better. > > “He’s fine, usually he could train, he can progress but, again, we take that seriously that protocol. Therefore he will be out.”

Jaissle hoping for positive update on Elanga injury

Matthias Jaissle hopes Anthony Elanga’s injury is “not that serious” as Newcastle prepare to face Hull on Saturday.

The 24-year-old winger was not included in the matchday squad for Monday’s game against Leeds, which saw the Magpies fall to a 4-1 defeat at Elland Road.

Up next is a test against high-flying Hull at St James’ Park and Jaissle is hoping a scan will provide more clarity on Elanga’s situation.

He said:

> “Still not a real update on Anthony. > > “I just spoke with him now. I think in the next 30 minutes he’s in the MRI, so we’ll get more clarity then and we hope that it’s not that serious. > > “It’s sad after that great start he had, the team had. We counted on him, definitely, and the way we want to play, it’s a key strength in our squad. But we want to stay positive also when he’s out. > > “Unfortunately then we need to solve it differently, we have the ability in the squad also to adjust things. We believe in our players, we count on the others and that’s always a chance for the others.”

With the extent of Elanga’s issue currently unknown, there is competition for a spot on the right wing and Jacob Murphy started there on Monday.

However, when posed with the possibility that Amar Dedic could push further up, Jaissle revealed the full-back will also be sidelined for Saturday.

He said:

> “I have some thoughts on that, but Jacob was doing good. > > “Murphy’s an experienced player, he’s played that role many times. He’s also intelligent to know exactly what the gaffer is demanding from him and from him on that position in particular. > > “There are other options, not too many at the moment as Amar will be also not available to play on Saturday. So it’s getting shorter and shorter the list.”

Carabao Cup: Everton to host Newcastle

Newcastle have landed fellow Premier League side Everton in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The fourth round of the competition takes place the week commencing October 26.

Jaissle issues concerning injury updates after Leeds loss

Matthias Jaissle has revealed that Jacob Ramsey picked up an injury during the warm-up ahead of Newcastle's 4-1 defeat to Leeds, explaining why he was unable to replace Nico Gonzalez after the midfielder was forced off under concussion protocols.

Instead, 18-year-old Sean Steur was brought on for Gonzalez and endured a difficult evening, giving the ball away in the build-up to Leeds' second goal as Newcastle struggled on a challenging night at St James' Park.

Jaissle revealed that Ramsey had felt an issue with his thigh during the warm-up and was therefore unable to feature.

> “He felt his thigh in the warm-up, so he was not able to play tonight,” Jaissle said. “That was the next challenge. Tonight, it was a little bit the story. Many things came together.”

Jaissle explained the decision to take Nico off, stressing that the player's health had to come first.

> “With Nico, as the manager, the gaffer and also we as a club, we have the responsibility. If he had that knockout feeling, as you all saw, then we have to be responsible enough to take him off the pitch. > > “Even though he looked fine afterwards, there are also some rules, especially for that occasion. > > “Independent of how important he is and how important it is to win a match, we are human beings as well and we take that seriously. Therefore, we took the decision to take him off the pitch.”

Asked whether any of his injured players could return for the weekend's game against Hull City, Jaissle admitted: “It doesn't look good at the moment.”

That includes Anthony Elanga, who missed out on the squad to face Leeds after suffering an injury that could potentially keep him out for a significant period.

> “Obviously, Elanga is struggling with an injury,” Jaissle said. “We now need to investigate further how serious it is, but at the moment it does not look that good.”

Jaissle admits Newcastle not physically up to Leeds standard

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle admitted that his side were unable to match up to Leeds United physically as he suffered his first defeat in charge in a 4-1 loss at Elland Road.

The Magpies were overrun and overpowered by a relentless Leeds side, which was not helped by the absence of Anthony Elanga and the early concussion substitution of Nico Gonzalez.
