Man Utd Chiefs Divided Over Nagelsmann and Howe After Jason Wilcox U-Turn
· GiveMeSport
Explore the potential appointment of Eddie Howe as Manchester United's next manager amid Michael Carrick's struggles.
Manchester United could be in the market for a new manager in the near future if Michael Carrick is unable to turn things around, with former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe now another candidate being considered for the job.
As it stands, Carrick looks set to be in charge of Manchester United for the game against Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend, according to GIVEMESPORT's sources.
The Red Devils suffered a 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, which has undoubtedly mounted the pressure on Carrick.
GIVEMESPORT understands that Fabian Hurzeler has admirers at Old Trafford, but he wants to remain with Brighton for the rest of the season.
Julian Nagelsmann is one of the leading contenders for the job, and he would be open to making the move to Old Trafford.
But a new name has reportedly emerged as one of the favourites to take over if United do decide to sack Carrick.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Christopher Vivell, United's head of recruitment, sees Nagelsmann as the standout option.
Jason Wilcox, however, is believed to prefer former Newcastle manager Howe , despite originally being against appointing him prior to Ruben Amorim's arrival.
It's believed that Wilcox's opinion is likely to hold more weight in terms of appointing a new manager in the eyes of both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family.
The likes of Hurzeler are going to be difficult due to him not wanting to leave Brighton mid-season, but Nagelsmann and Howe are both available right now.
Howe has been out of a job since leaving Newcastle early this year. The former Bournemouth manager did a fantastic job with the Magpies in turning them from bottom-half strugglers to competing for Champions League places.
Howe did struggle towards the end, but it would certainly be interesting to see how he would do at a side that invests heavily.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is under pressure after their defeat against Como in the Champions League this week
It is a tricky period approaching for Manchester United ahead of the next international break.
Up first is Bournemouth at home this weekend, which is undoubtedly going to be difficult with all the noise surrounding the club at the moment.
United then travelled to Chelsea in the Premier League before hosting Roma in the Champions League just a few days later. The Red Devils then host Aston Villa, followed by a game against Liverpool towards the end of November.
It's an incredibly difficult set of fixtures ahead for United, and it will be interesting to see whether Carrick lasts.
