FC Barcelona face Galatasaray on Tuesday in the second round of the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.
The coaching staff has a clear priority heading into the game: secure six points from the first two matches and strengthen their chances of finishing in the top eight.
Now, according to SPORT , despite Barcelona’s impressive result in their European opener, Flick has made it clear, both privately and in his public comments, that the trip to Galatasaray is considered a crucial fixture in the team’s schedule.
The German coach intends to field a strong starting line-up in Istanbul as Barcelona look to maintain their perfect start to the competition. His management of playing time in the recent match against Getafe was part of that plan .
Flick chose to rest key players, including Pau Cubarsi, Pedri and Fermin Lopez, taking into account the physical demands of the recent international break but, above all, prioritising their freshness for the demanding test awaiting them in Turkey.
A hostile atmosphere and a top-level opponent
Flick has enormous respect for Galatasaray, whom he considers a top-quality side with several internationally renowned players, including Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane.
From the coaching staff’s perspective, the trip to Istanbul ranks among the most difficult away fixtures of the entire league phase, comparable in difficulty to Barcelona’s visit to Paris Saint-Germain.
The quality of the opposition will be compounded by the atmosphere inside the stadium.
Speaking after the Getafe match, Flick issued a clear warning about the conditions his players can expect, describing the venue as the loudest stadium in Europe and its atmosphere as the most intense.
Barcelona have experience of competing under immense pressure, including their semi-final against Inter Milan at San Siro.
Nevertheless, the message delivered to the dressing room has been unmistakable: the team must be ready for an exceptionally hostile environment, potentially one of the most intense they have ever encountered on a football pitch.
Full concentration with a demanding schedule ahead
With greater squad depth than last season, Flick has more options at his disposal. However, his instructions for Tuesday’s match are unequivocal: no complacency and complete concentration on the task at hand.
Barcelona have several major fixtures approaching, including matches against Real Betis and PSG, followed by the Clasico .
And Flick does not want his players looking beyond Galatasaray or allowing thoughts of those upcoming challenges to distract them.
The objective is straightforward: Barcelona must remain fully focused, cope with the pressure in Istanbul and return home with all three points.
