Aurelien Tchouameni has questioned the refereeing following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal on Matchday eight of La Liga, admitting that he does not understand the decisions being made by officials.

The French midfielder was particularly critical of the red card shown to his teammate Vinícius Jr., who was sent off for pulling the hair of Nathan Saliba during the match.

Vinicius had seen a goal ruled out that would have made it 2-0 after the referee penalised him for pulling Saliba’s hair in the build-up. The Brazilian was then shown a straight red card for the incident.

> “I do not understand what is happening with the referees. I do not understand that red card,” Tchouameni told Real Madrid TV .

Tchouameni reflects on the victory over Villarreal

Despite his frustration with the officiating, Tchouameni was pleased with the result and acknowledged the quality of the opposition.

> “I’m happy with the victory because we know Villarreal is a great team. We can certainly improve, but after a three-week international break, it’s not easy. Today, the most important thing is the win,” he said.

Real Madrid have yet to lose at home this season, and Tchouameni highlighted the importance of their supporters in maintaining that record.

> “I’m sure it’s easier to win the game with the support of the stadium. It’s our home and we have to keep winning here,” he said.

> “It’s very important to get a win and we have to keep going like this. We’ve done it and we’re going to look ahead,” the Frenchman added.

Roma next as Tchouameni celebrates 200 appearances

Real Madrid’s next fixture will be against AS Roma in the second round of the Champions League. Tchouameni stressed that the team must maintain its strong start to the competition by securing another victory.

> “We have started in the best possible way in the Champions League and we have to go to Rome to win the game,” he declared.

The Villarreal fixture was also a personal milestone for the midfielder, who made his 200th appearance in a Real Madrid shirt.

> “It’s a dream to be here every day. I want to thank the fans, the president, and the club. Here’s to more matches and more victories,” Tchouameni concluded.
