Premier League LIVE: Lewis Hall signs new Newcastle contract - plus Andoni Iraola, Enzo Maresca, Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi speak ahead of weekend games

· DailyMail

Plenty of managers are due to speak today ahead of a busy weekend of Premier League action. Daily Mail Sport brings you all the key news here...

Alvaro Arbeloa believes he retains the support of the Fulham dressing room despite three players dissenting on social media.

Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi deleted all Fulham photos from their Instagram accounts following their 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Meanwhile, club-record signing Kevin also aimed a thinly veiled dig at Arbeloa after he was an unused substitute against Palace, posting ‘no speak, no hear, no see’ with depictions of monkeys covering their mouth, ears and eyes.

Fulham are winless in their first three Premier League games and travel to Liverpool on Saturday seeking to ease the pressure on Arbeloa, who was booed at full-time last weekend.

Arbeloa insists his players still respect him after the social media debacle and that his job is not under immediate threat but conceded Kevin is discontent.

> ‘It's a normal situation in every club,’ said Arbeloa. ‘I don't feel like I have a problem in the dressing room. They know that they have to do their work and I do mine.

> ‘If I speak with my players, I prefer to keep that inside the dressing room. The most important opinion is my players’. It’s very important to continue working as a unit like we have this week.

> ‘They are very open guys. This group is all together. There’s a very good relationship between all of them.

> ‘I'm not really worried about social media. It's about football. I am really, really focused on that.

> ‘We need to send a message on Saturday - we need to win games. ‘We know that we have zero points. We did many things well but not well enough.

> ‘I didn't come here just for three games or for a month. I came here because I wanted to improve this club, this team, this squad and my players. This is where my energy goes.

> ‘Kevin will be important for us. It's just three games. He will have his opportunity because he's a player that we need. He’s not happy like any other teammate when he is not playing.

> ‘I want to see my players unhappy when they are not playing. I want them to show in the training session that they are not happy. They need to wait for his opportunity.

> ‘I know how important social media is today. But as a coach, I have concerns and it's not about social media.’

Chelsea have rewarded Pedro Neto with a new six-year contract after the 26-year-old winger snubbed interest in him from Manchester City and others in the summer.

The Portugal international has been used primarily as a wing-back by Xabi Alonso and has impressed, scoring two goals in five games across all competitions.

Neto was signed from Wolves for £54million in 2024, but has followed Joao Pedro, Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in securing improved terms as a reward for his loyalty and reliability.

The Portuguese has received a pay rise and it is a five-year deal with the option of a sixth year that he has penned. More renewals are expected to be announced over the coming months.

Alonso spoke highly of Neto at his pre-Hull press conference on Friday before the extension was officially announced, saying: 'You can call him a winger or wing-back because he has many qualities. He is good in one-v-one, he is scoring goals, he has a fantastic work rate. He connects very well with the players around him.

> 'I knew him well from watching many games from Chelsea. With him, you know that he is going to compete and you want these kind of players in your team. I am very happy with Pedro and the work he is doing.'

It is understood Neto had expressed a desire to stay at Chelsea in the summer when other clubs, including City, showed an interest in him.

That is unlike Enzo Fernandez, who managed to force through his £125m transfer to City before the summer window closed. Chelsea had previously held talks with Fernandez and his camp about him signing a new contract like his peers.

However, the Argentinian did not agree a new deal, and his relationship with the club became strained, including when he was slapped with a two-game suspension for openly flirting with Real Madrid midway through last season.

While Real released a statement insisting they were not interested in Fernandez, City continued to push for him privately on behalf of their new manager, Enzo Maresca.

Fernandez showed interest in leaving. That is said to have included handing in a written transfer request.

Tottenham have announced midfielder Lucas Bergvall has signed a new contract.

Bergvall had told Tottenham he had wanted to leave the club in the summer, with boss Roberto De Zerbi insisting would would not beg or promise him a place in the team to convince him to stay.

The Swedish midfielder, who signed a six-year contract in April 2025, has now agreed fresh terms.

> 'I think we're building something great here. It's an exciting time for the Club and that's why I'm happy to extend my contract,' Bergvall said.

> 'I'm always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.

> 'Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team - performances, goals and assists - to help as much as I can. I'm getting better every day in training and I'm looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.'

De Zerbi added: 'Every day in training you can see Lucas' desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level.

> 'Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments. He also understands that development is a process and he has shown a fantastic attitude towards working on the areas of his game where he can become even better.

> 'I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.'

Michael Carrick has stoked Sunday’s Old Trafford derby by dismissing Elliot Anderson’s ‘Kings of Manchester’ taunt.

Anderson made the claim after joining Manchester City for £116million from Nottingham Forest this summer, having been a target for United as well.

But Carrick brushed off the England midfielder’s boast before the two clubs clash again in the 199th Manchester derby, and warned United’s neighbours that he is making progress.

> ‘I’m definitely not using that phrase at all,’ said the United boss, who began his tenure with a 2-0 win over City at Old Trafford in January on the way to earning the job full-time.

> ‘Talking about the expectation there, I think it's a really good thing that it's shifted in a way. All of a sudden there's different things asked of us now to a few months ago, and we're in the Champions League.

> ‘That in itself shows the steps we've made, and we need to be in the later stages of that. We're humble and realistic enough to know where we've come from in recent history, and we need to be – and want to be – better and we want to be challenging more.

> ‘It doesn't mean that we can't and we won't. It means we still hope, we believe, and we expect that we can, but I understand the bigger picture.’

Looking back on the win over City in January, just three days after returning to Old Trafford as head coach, Carrick admitted that it was always his intention to land the job on a permanent basis.

> ‘I was always planning to be,’ he added. ‘All the decisions we made were if we were going to be here for a period of time. I never knew how long that was going to be – I still don't!

> ‘But you're always planning for the future; what we want it to look like, and the direction we want to go. That was from day one.

> ‘Obviously, it was a quick turnaround and there was a bit of an unknown around that game. The expectation was quite fresh and everything was new. The players, maybe myself, the coaches were all waiting to see how it would go.

> ‘The performance the lads gave was incredible. From the start, we were planning to try and get this club to where we want to get it in the long-term.’

However, Carrick warned that the result in the last derby will have little bearing on Sunday’s game as he takes on new City boss Enzo Maresca.

> ‘It will definitely be different, just because no two games are ever the same,’ said Carrick.

> ‘There's no way we're assuming we won last season, so we'll do the same things and everything will be the same.

> ‘I think the confidence that we've built over a period of time, and the feeling we're getting better all the time, helps us.

> ‘We know it's a big game. There's a lot riding on it, it's pretty obvious to say, but we're looking forward to it.’

Carrick must decide whether to risk Luke Shaw after the left-back missed Thursday night’s Champions League win over Sabah.

> ‘We'll have to see,’ he added. ‘We just looked after him a little bit. He wasn't quite ready for it 100 per cent, so we didn't risk it. We'll see how he is over the next couple of days.’

Alvaro Arbeloa insists he is the right man to stop the rot at Fulham after a disastrous start to the season.

Fulham have lost all three of their Premier League games under Arbeloa, conceding seven goals, and supporters booed after their 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

The frustration appeared to trickle into the dressing room, too, as Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi removed all Fulham-related photos from their Instagram accounts. Meanwhile, Kevin was more direct, posting ‘no hear, no speak, no see’.

Pressure is increasing on the Spanish coach, with a trip to Liverpool on Saturday before facing Manchester United on the eve of the international break, but Arbeloa believes he will be given time.

> ‘We have been working so hard this week,’ said Arbeloa. ‘At Anfield, for me, it is the most important thing. I am not thinking about time.’

> ‘I didn't come here just for three games or for a month. I came here because I wanted to improve this club, this team, this squad and my players. This is where my energy goes.’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed he deliberately sabotaged his team during pre-season to help prepare them for challenges that could occur this campaign.

Arteta made the revelation after being asked about the travel chaos in the build-up to their Champions League victory over Napoli in midweek, with air traffic controls issues leading to thousands of flights being delayed or cancelled.

The Gunners boss, who has been known for his unusual methods, admitted to deliberately delayed transport and meals during pre-season, as well as removing massage beds and making the changing rooms hotter to challenge his players in pre-season.

The Gunners take on Sunderland this weekend, and Alan Shearer believes the champions will maintain their 100 per cent start with victory over the Black Cats.

> 'Arsenal are very solid, they're strong in every position,' he said via Betfair . 'Sunderland got a good point away at Brentford last week, but I think Arsenal will have too much for them.

> 'I think Arsenal will have too much for most teams this season. So, I am going for Arsenal to win and continue their strong start to the season.'

Enzo Maresca believes Manchester City are deserving of the ‘kings of Manchester’ tag handed to them by summer signing Elliot Anderson before going to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Anderson, who was pictured in a City shirt as a child growing up in the north east, made the remarks on arriving for £116million from Nottingham Forest in July.

City have lifted seven Premier League titles since Sir Alex Ferguson delivered his final crown as Manchester United boss in 2013.

While their away record at United has been chequered in recent seasons, Maresca can see why Anderson, 23, believes there is a chasm between the clubs.

> ‘Probably the reason why Elliot said that is he grew up in the last 15 years,’ Maresca said. ‘I think Manchester City were unbelievable in what they achieved.

> ‘It’s normal when Elliot said that. If you go back [in history] it’s a different picture but for me the reason he said that is because when he grew up Manchester City was dominant.’

On the rivalry between the clubs, he added: ‘It is a very important game for different reasons, we know how important is a derby, for the club, for the fans. The most important thing we can do is to be ourselves. It’s to be focused on the game. We lived similar in Porto, a complicated stadium.
