Former Barcelona and Spain star Pedro Rodriguez has announced his retirement from football at the grand old age of 39.

Pedro has posted a video on social media to confirm he’s hanging up his boots after a career spent playing for Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma and Lazio.

> “Being part of the best Barça in history was a privilege; we won everything and amazed the world. My heart will always be a Barça fan,” he said.

Pedro signed off in style with a classy message to all of those who have helped him throughout his career, adding: “I feel it’s the right time. Thanks to my teammates, the best thing hasn’t been the titles, it’s been you.

> “Thanks to the clubs that opened their doors to me and the coaches who trusted in me. Thanks to the fans for so much love and thanks to my children, my family, and my friends. Thank you, football, for making me so happy.”

Barcelona responded to his post with the message: “You’ll always be part of our history. Thank you for everything you’ve given to football and for every moment you’ve shared with us. We wish you all the best in this new chapter.”

Pedro has his own place in Barcelona history after a phenomenal career that saw him win five La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey crowns and the Champions League three times with the Catalan giants. He was also part of the Spain squad that clinched the World Cup in 2026.

The winger played a total of 321 matches for Barca, scoring a total of 99 goals and claiming 20 titles during his time at Camp Nou.

Thank you and good luck for the future, Pedro!
