Lyrics to the Best Newcastle United Songs and Chants (Complete Guide)

From Blaydon Races to Jaissle, I Can Boogie, here are the best Newcastle United songs and lyrics sung by the Magpies' faithful
Passionate and proud, Newcastle United have one of the loudest, most distinctive followings in English football.
The Toon Army follow their players through thick and thin, and St James' Park has built a songbook to match, from a Victorian music-hall favourite to a stadium tradition dedicated to a Dire Straits legend . Whether it's a Tyne-Wear derby or a European night under the floodlights, expect the Gallowgate End to be in full voice.
Here are the anthems that take pride of place in the songbook of Newcastle United supporters.
Written by Geordie music-hall performer George Ridley in 1862, this is the definitive Newcastle anthem. It predates the football club itself, but has been adopted as the unofficial anthem of both the city and the Toon Army, sung with pride before kick-off and during the big moments at St James' Park.
Newcastle's official walk-out anthem is unlike anything else in English Football: an instrumental. Composed by Newcastle-raised Mark Knopfler for the 1983 film Local Hero, the saxophone-led theme has no lyrics at all. Yet, it produces one of the most emotional moments in the Premier League as the players emerge from the tunnel. Knopfler has called hearing his team run out to the song 'fantastic', whilst defender Dan Burn has spoken of how much the song means to him both as a player and boyhood fan of the club.
Written by Geordie Busker Ronnie Lambert and recorded in 1981, this heartfelt tribute to homesickness and Tyneside pride is played before every home game alongside "Going Home." Lambert, who passed away in 2009, became known for penning Newcastle-themed songs, including a 1996 tribute to Alan Shearer's return to the club.
Short, simple and impossible to ignore once it starts, this call-and-response chant is a St James' Park staple. One end of the ground shouts the call, the other answers, and within seconds the whole stadium is bellowing along.
A chant that captures Newcastle fans' self-image with typical directness, loud, proud and unapologetically loyal, whatever the results on the pitch.
This song is believed to have been sung in the stands since the 1960s to the tune of God Save Ireland. Whilst the lyrics and tune are fairly simple, it is what has made it so popular and a mainstay all this time.
When a player in your team becomes the Premier League's all time top scorer with 260 goals, it is only fair that he has a song or two dedicated to him. Alan Shearer's legend status on Tyneside will remain forever, and although he hasn't played for the club in two decades, his songs continue to be bellowed out by the Geordies.
Another chant about the Geordie god, but this time with a little dig at fellow Premier League club Manchester United . Whilst Shearer was in the best form of his life, rumours circulated that the Red Devils were desperate to get the striker's signature and bring him to Old Trafford. Luckily for Newcastle, however, Shearer rejected Manchester United on two separate occasions, and he later told the Sun that he still "has no regrets" about his decision.
In light of Shearer's loyalty, it was only right that the Magpies' fanbase made light of the situation and gave him another chant.
It didn't take long for Matthias Jaissle to get himself a chant when he took the reigns from Eddie Howe. Newcastle fans were left dismayed by the sacking of the manager who had led them to Champions League football, but they were quick to get behind their new coach, giving him a chant along to the tune of Baccara's hit song "Yes sir, I can boogie."
