Castilla edge Atlético Madrileño in a five-goal derby

Carvajal gave Castilla an early lead in the ninth minute, collecting the ball in midfield before taking on four defenders and finishing left-footed. The hosts looked set to carry that advantage into half-time, but A. Yaakobishvili levelled in added time with a long-range effort that deflected off Mario Rivas and wrong-footed goalkeeper Mestre.

Diego Aguado restored Castilla's lead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after being brought down in the area by I. Kamate. Atlético Madrileño had another penalty of their own, but Mestre saved D. García's attempt; Koke Mota scored from the rebound in the 66th minute to make it 2-2.

Yáñez settled the contest five minutes later with a precise left-footed finish from an angle. Castilla appeared to add a fourth in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but Alexis Ciria's goal was ruled out for offside. Atlético Madrileño had the final opportunity to salvage a draw, only for Álvaro Vega's header to strike the crossbar.

The club's account presented the fixture as a derby between the sides' reserve teams and listed both starting line-ups. The result gives Castilla a welcome success in a meeting that puts two Madrid academies in direct competition, while the late disallowed goal and crossbar effort underlined how narrow the margin was.
