Everton Youngster Jonathan Nsangou Shows 'Real Panache' In First-Team Cameo
· GiveMeSport
Everton may have failed to add another big name striker over the summer, but there is no shortage of young attacking talent at the club.
Everton manager David Moyes had hoped to be handed new arrivals to work with at the end of the summer window, but a disappointing final week of business on Merseyside has left the Toffees short of options this season.
Brennan Johnson and Hayden Hackney were two marquee arrivals at the Hill Dickinson Stadium but the departures of Iliman Ndiaye and Beto have left Everton in need of attacking impetus.
Prior to the international break, a flurry of form from Tyler Dibling suggested that the hotshot could finally provide exactly that. However, the former Southampton man is not the only prospect causing excitement - Jonathan Nsangou is one to watch.
After a tricky first season at Everton, Moyes has used Dibling sparingly so far this season. However, when afforded a rare start in the Carabao Cup clash against Preston North End, the 20-year-old put in a livewire performance.
That showing, and excitement over the talent, had Moyes smiling prior to the international break and Everton fans hoping to see the winger regain his electric best, which was so clear while at Southampton.
Moyes will be keen to keep pressure off the youngster, but the emergence of Nsangou this week should serve as a reminder that there is more talent in the pipeline. Dibling does not have forever to step up.
The 16-year-old is somewhat of an unknown for many Everton fans and, given his tender age, is far from the finished product. The teenager has found himself in the news this week after being handed minutes in the Toffees' behind-closed-doors friendly against Blackburn Rovers.
With 11 players on international duty, Moyes turned to the rising star and it was an outing to remember. Nsangou secured a draw for Everton. The right winger ran through a channel in the Rovers defence, latching onto a Jack Grealish through ball, and rifled home past the goalkeeper in clinical style.
Everton fans shouldn't be writing a Wayne Rooney-sized fairytale for the youngster quite yet, but there was certainly a confidence and real panache to the finish which will have them licking their lips - even a social media post thanking 'my boy' Grealish after the fixture pointed to a youngster who is not intimidated at senior level.
The England under-16 international has scored 10 times for Everton in the under-18 Premier League, and has already been handed an under-21 debut well ahead of his years. Nsangou idolises Cristiano Ronaldo and, at this early stage in his career, looks to be modelling his style in the Portuguese winger's image.
Moyes will not be fast-tracking the 16-year-old into the first team, but his presence around the training ground could be a useful reminder for Dibling - if you don't step up, there will soon be hungry scholars yapping at your heels.
