Manchester United manager Michael Carrick will be aiming to get his side's season back on track after the international break
Manchester United are not back in action until later this month but Michael Carrick will remain busy during the international break. The United boss is searching for solutions following his side’s slow start to the season.
Carrick will be keeping a close eye on those representing their national teams, with Noussair Mazraoui among the latest to worry his manager. The defender was forced off due to injury in Morocco’s victory over Lesotho on Tuesday, joining Bruno Fernandes and Patrick Dorgu on the list of United stars who have dealt with fitness problems during the international break.
The United boss will also be focused on his work at Carrington as he looks to ignite his side’s campaign. The Red Devils exited the Carabao Cup and picked up five points from five league games before the pause in club football, sitting 12th in the Premier League table.
Meanwhile, United striker Sesko has received an apology after his desire to play for the club was recently questioned due to injury. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the biggest stories surrounding the club.
Michael Carrick takes action
Carrick will reportedly have an opportunity to put some of his squad through their paces in a behind-closed-doors friendly in the coming days. The Telegraph reports that United are set to face Lausanne-Sport, with the Swiss side also owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
It gives the manager a chance to test his players in a match environment and possibly trial potential solutions as Carrick looks to kickstart the team’s season. Details of where and when the game will take place are currently unknown but it will provide United with a test ahead of facing Tottenham Hotspur on October 10.
Lausanne-Sport have endured a worse start to their own league campaign than United. Luka Elsner’s side are rooted to the bottom of the Swiss Super League, having won just one of their nine games so far.
Benjamin Sesko receives apology
Wayne Rooney has issued an apology to Sesko after questioning the striker’s willingness to play through the pain barrier. The Slovenian forward featured as a substitute in each of United’s four league games before missing the draw with Fulham before the international break with a shin issue.
This initially sparked a reaction from club legend Rooney, who previously said on his Stick to United podcast: “If you're trying to play No9 [for Man United] and you've got a must-win game and you've got a sore shin and you're not playing... that's a big part of the problem. Unless you physically can't play, you play when you're injured.”
> “Well, if it’s long-term, then I suppose I should apologise,” Rooney said on Stick to United. “So, I apologise, Sesko. I apologise if I misjudged you. Sorry.”
