INEOS Error at Man Utd Threatening Carrick's Job Again After Dorgu and Mazraoui Injuries
· GiveMeSport
INEOS' major error at Man Utd is threatening Michael Carrick's job once again, and new footage has emerged to make things worse.
Manchester United have had a poor start to the season, and that has seen speculation around Michael Carrick's job become rife.
The former England international was handed a two-year contract at Old Trafford after doing a stellar job as an interim, following his appointment to replace Ruben Amorim in January of this year.
But so far, the Red Devils have won just one of their five Premier League games, and that has raised question marks about whether he was the right man to get the job permanently.
United are understood to be backing him still, and believe a number of factors have contributed to the poor results, including injuries and incorrect refereeing decisions. But so far INEOS are yet to acknowledge a relatively poor transfer window on their end.
The club had planned to rebuild the midfield as a priority, which they did. £155m was spent and Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba all arrived. But the Cameroon international is yet to make his debut, having signed with an ankle injury, while Santos has been restricted to limited minutes on the bench.
A left-back was also understood to be a top priority, with worries over Luke Shaw's fitness and his ability to play three games per week. But despite strong links throughout the window, a deal never materialised.
That has left Carrick with Shaw, who has already missed games this season due to injury, as the only natural, senior left-back in the squad. The manager has tried to defend the situation publicly, with Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Patrick Dorgu all able to play there, while Harry Amass also ended up staying at the club rather than leaving to provide extra cover.
But the master plan of INEOS to wait until next summer to bring in a new left-back has backfired mightily already.
Dorgu was forced off with a hamstring injury during Denmark's 2-0 win over Wales over the weekend, and has now returned to the club for treatment, as a spell on the sidelines looks likely. But things got even worse on Tuesday, as footage emerged of Mazraoui being forced off due to injury while representing Morocco.
Man Utd's decision not to go for a left-back of any kind this summer has come back to bite them, and quickly.
Their next game will see them take on Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10th, in what many believe is a must-win fixture. Luke Shaw is expected to be fit after returning against Fulham before the break, but there will be limited cover, and a busy schedule to come afterwards.
Dorgu and Mazraoui's injuries are unclear at this stage, but should they mean the players miss a prolonged period of time, it could end up being a big reason why Carrick eventually loses his job, and INEOS will only have themselves to blame.
Michael Carrick is under pressure at Man Utd, and Eddie Howe has been linked as a potential replacement.
