Alan Shearer is set to look back 30 years over his footballing career with another star striker - Gary Lineker.

The Newcastle United hero, the Premier League's all-time highest scorer, will be interviewed by Lineker at a 'for one night only' event in London. Shearer, 56, who signed for his hometown club for a then record £15m in 1996, is raising funds for his charity foundation.

He told the Mirror: “It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since I signed for Newcastle. So much has happened in that time, and being able to look back over the last three decades, with Gary hosting in such an amazing venue, is going to be incredible."

Lineker will ask the Geordie legend about his time with England, his experiences with all-time great Kevin Keegan, and his favourite goals from the record 260 scored in the Premier League. Shearer added: "What makes the night even more special for me is knowing it’s also supporting the Million Pound Mission.

> "I’ve been blown away by the response so far, and I’m incredibly honoured that people are getting behind the event and helping us raise money for a second hydrotherapy pool at the Alan Shearer Centre. "

The centre is a vital source of support for many adults, children and families. It is the only charity-run facility in the North East providing this level of specialist support completely free of charge and accessible to all.

It helps people with profound disabilities and more than 5,000 people can access the full range of facilities free of charge. Users of the centre in Newcastle, part of the charity St Cuthbert's Care, have access to life-enhancing therapies such as hydrotherapy and sensory play.

Dad-of-three Shearer said last year: “I was extremely lucky in my career. Scoring for England, captaining the team, winning the Premier League - this place beats all of that."

He said of his latest fundraising venture: "We know how important the pool is to members and their families, so every donation really does matter. I’m hugely grateful to everyone who has supported the event so far, and really looking forward to sharing it with everyone who’ll be there.”

The only way for fans to be in the room for the Shearer: 30 years is by entering the charity prize draw. That is raising money for the Alan Shearer Foundation as part of its Million Pound Mission.

Through archive footage and photography, fans will experience the Shearer story in a completely new way, as part of a stunning 360° show at Lightroom in London on October 15. The Million Pound Mission aims to build a second hydrotherapy pool at the Alan Shearer Centre.

Twenty years ago, Alan used money from his testimonial to create the centre, and he has already raised £7m to support its running costs. It helps to keep its specialist facilities, therapies and social opportunities for children and adults with complex disabilities completely free of charge.

With membership now exceeding 10,000, demand has outgrown the Centre’s existing hydrotherapy pool and the £1m will fund the second vital pool.
