Newcastle United Injury Update: Two Players Spotted In Training

Matthias Jaissle allowed the press to watch on as Newcastle United trained at the KNOX on Tuesday morning

Newcastle United players not away on international duty were put through their paces at the KNOX training ground in front of cameras and the media on Tuesday morning.

It gave an insight as to the progress of the injury list on Tyneside, with Matthias Jaissle and his staff handed three weeks to get beleaguered stars back to fitness ahead of the trip to struggling Coventry City next month.

Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez were involved in proceedings, with an update also provided on Dan Burn, who is yet to play for Newcastle United this season.

Joelinton featured in front of the cameras at the KNOX on Tuesday morning. That's very positive news for Newcastle United, who have been without the physical midfielder all season.

The Brazil international has been sidelined since the 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in pre-season but now looks close to returning.

Speaking to The Chronicle last week, Joelinton admitted that he was targeting a return after the international break. He said:

> "The plan is to be back now after the international break. I am feeling really good.

> "I have worked hard and worked smart, I can't wait to be back and be with the team, the boys and the new players and in front of the fans again.

> "I would not say it has been good because I have not been able to play or do what I love. I want to help the club and the boys on the pitch at this moment. But I am recovering, and I am feeling good now. It has been a long journey since the end of last season, when I had my first injury, then came back and felt it again."

Nico Gonzalez has quickly won over fans since making the £52 million move from Manchester City this summer. He was named in the starting XI against Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth and Leeds United, but was forced off after 19 minutes at Elland Road with a head injury.

The midfielder was forced to sit out of the 2-1 win over Hull City due to concussion protocols. Gonzalez was expected to be back over the break and his involvement in training would certainly point to that.

Dan Burn was not involved in the main first team training at KNOX on Tuesday but it is understood that the England international is in the building and progressing well on his rehab.

The defender suffered an ankle injury just days before the start of the 2026/27 campaign and is yet to feature for the Magpies. Burn is expected to be fit to return against Coventry City following the international break.

Amar Dedic has been another promising piece of summer transfer business with his gutsy performances at full-back. The defender pulled out of international duty with Bosnia and Herzegovina this month, having not made the matchday squad to take on Hull City.

That came after Dedic limped off in the defeat to Leeds United with a hamstring niggle. That was the return of a problem already felt earlier in the campaign but the 24-year-old is expected to be available against Coventry City.

When Dedic came off at Elland Road, Jaissle turned to the services of Tino Livramento. The former Chelsea and Southampton man was himself returning from an injury when making that appearance, but finished the game.

Livramento then suffered a setback in training prior to facing Hull City, which left Lewis Miley filling in at right-back. The defender pulled out of England duty over the break but is also said to be progressing well.

Jacob Ramsey also wasn't involved in training as he nurses a thigh injury. The midfielder felt the problem in the warm-up prior to the defeat against Leeds United and was confirmed out against Hull City. Jaissle was hopeful that the player would be back after the international break and Ramsey is not known to have been set back from that return date.

William Osula finished last season in fine goalscoring form but his progress this term was halted on the opening weekend. The striker picked up a problem with his foot against Liverpool, initially playing on in that fixture before being taken off in the second half. There's not been many updates on the forward's progress but, with the help of the long international break, a return against Coventry City is expected.

He has huge potential and could leave St James' Park for a huge transfer fee
