La Liga outfit Espanyol have on Tuesday evening announced the dismissal of manager Manolo González with immediate effect. This comes fresh off another outing to forget for all associated with the Catalans.

Espanyol are in the midst of what has been a hugely disappointing opening to the new campaign all told.

With just eight points on the board from 10 La Liga fixtures, the Pericos find themselves sitting in the relegation zone in Spanish football’s top-flight.

Manager Manolo González had in turn long been considered as under pressure with a view to his future in Barcelona. And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, one final embarrassing defeat proved the straw which broke the camel’s back for those in a position of power at the RCDE Stadium.

After Espanyol were eliminated from the Copa del Rey courtesy of a 4-3 extra-time defeat at the hands of minnows Sestao, the Pericos released the following statement across social media:

> ‘Manolo González is no longer the coach of Espanyol. The Club wishes to thank him for his work throughout all these years and wishes him the best of luck in his future projects.’

> OFICIAL | Manolo González deixa de ser entrenador de l' #RCDE . El Club vol agrair-li la seva feina durant tots aquests anys i li desitja molta sort en els seus projectes futurs. > > — RCD Espanyol de Barcelona (@RCDEspanyol) October 27, 2026
