Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25) has undergone successful surgery on his ACL injury, the Ligue 1 club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
During a 4-2 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League earlier this month, Kvaratskhelia sustained an ACL injury to his right knee. It is a blow that could rule him out of the remainder of the season.
An operation that forced Kvaratskhelia’s absence from Ballon d’Or ceremony
He has now undergone surgery on the injury. The operation took place at the Aspetar hospital in Doha, Qatar. The Georgian will now continue his recovery.
The scheduling of his operation meant that Kvaratskhelia missed the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday night. The former Napoli winger was one of the favourites to win the prize, which was ultimately awarded to Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane. The Georgian came sixth and finished as the highest of PSG’s nine nominees for the prestigious individual prize.
