Liverpool fans have turned on 'terrible' ace and are now begging Iraola to drop him after match v Spurs

Liverpool secured their place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

The Reds took the lead in the first half thanks to a fine strike by Alexis Mac Allister from the edge of the box, before Cody Gakpo doubled the lead with a powerful shot into the far corner in the second half. Conor Gallagher headed home from a corner to pull one back for the visitors, before Dominik Szoboszlai lashed home a stunning volley from 35 yards out in injury time to wrap up the win.

Manager Andoni Iraola is still looking for what his best starting lineup is, and with a thin squad he opted to make several changes to the team for the clash, handing some rare starts to youngsters Trey Nyoni, James McConnell, and Lewis Koumas alongside the likes of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Joe Gomez, who made their first starts of the campaign.

After the victory, many fans took to social media to sing the praises of young midfielder Nyoni in particular, who enjoyed a fine 62-minute showing before being replaced by the experience of Ryan Gravenberch in the holding role.

The former Ajax star has been a regular at Anfield since joining from Bayern Munich, and was a key member of the title-winning squad under Arne Slot while playing as the deepest midfielder alongside Szoboszlai and Mac Allister.

But the Netherlands international struggled in the 30-minute cameo he had, and now fans are demanding that the academy graduate is handed his starting spot at the weekend against Bournemouth and beyond.

Writing on social media during and after the game, one fan described Gravenberch as being 'terrible' all season and admitted that he was worried about his performances, while another fan called for Nyoni to get the nod as he was a better fit for the manager at this point in time.

Fan @StevieR60 called for Gravenberch to be sold, with Nyoni to take his place in the side as he described Liverpool as being 'wide open' following his introduction to the team against Tottenham.

@HekiA7ontt also called for the former Bayern star to be benched for upcoming games, with Nyoni having 'earned his spot in the team with his performance in the cup.

Liverpool are set to take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in a game that will see Iraola return to his former club, with the Reds currently one of seven clubs who are unbeaten in the Premier League.

The club drew their opening two games in the Premier League 2-2 against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, before claiming wins over Ipswich, and then Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. But Iraola admitted that his side took a backwards step with a 0-0 draw against Fulham in their last outing in the top flight, and they'll be keen to get back to winning ways before the international break.

With Gravenberch struggling for form, Nyoni shining, and both Szoboszlai and Mac Allister finding the back of the net, Iraola has a big decision to make heading into the clash over how his midfield will look.
