Although Barcelona’s primary objective this week will be to dismantle Real Madrid in the season’s first El Clasico , the Catalans have good reasons to be even more excited about Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Ahead of the gala in London, many are expecting Barcelona to dominate proceedings, with Lamine Yamal widely tipped as the favourite to secure the Ballon d’Or trophy, ahead of Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Rodri.

Barcelona are also in line to win other accolades in the event, which is why we could see a large delegation in London.

Barcelona’s heavy presence in Ballon d’Or ceremony

As reported by Diario SPORT , Barcelona will deploy a sizeable representation in London for the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or Gala, led by president Joan Laporta.

The expedition will travel together to the English capital alongside all of the club’s nominees across the various award categories.

On the playing side, the list includes Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Rodri, Joan Garcia and a strong contingent from the women’s team, featuring Cata Coll, Esmee Brugts, Patri Guijarro, Caroline Graham Hansen, Claudia Pina, Ewa Pajor, Clara Serrajordi and coach Pere Romeu.

On the institutional front, Laporta will be joined by vice-presidents Rafa Yuste and Elena Fort, directors Xavi Puig and Xavier Barniol, and sporting figures including Deco and Bojan Krkic.

Lamine, meanwhile, will make the trip separately, having chartered a private jet for his parents, partner, family, friends and members of his team.

An entertaining night in London

This year’s gala carries added significance, as it will be staged outside Paris for the very first time.

Organisers have chosen the British capital to honour Stanley Matthews, winner of the inaugural Ballon d’Or in 1956.

The London Palladium Theatre will host the event, which begins at 9pm Spanish time and is expected to conclude at around 11pm.

The ceremony will be fronted by two familiar faces in former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry and British journalist Kate Scott, both of whom feature on CBS’ Champions League coverage.

Organisers are also promising a show full of surprises and musical performances, with British singer Jorja Smith opening proceedings with ‘Blue Lights’ before a performance from rapper French Montana.

Needless to say, it promises to be a memorable evening for Barça.
