A few months ago, Antonio Raimondo was competing for promotion to Serie A with Frosinone. Today, the young Italian looks at all the other championship scorers in the rearview mirror. Friday evening, the 22-year-old striker struck again hard by scoring a hat-trick against Sassuolo (4-2), the first of his professional career. Already the author of two doubles since the start of the season, he now has seven goals in as many days and is at the top of the scorers’ ranking, ahead of Donyell Malen. A spectacular rise for anyone discovering the Italian elite. However, despite the comparisons that are starting to flourish, Raimondo prefers to keep his feet on the ground. “ The comparisons are exaggerated. I think about giving my best, following the coach and helping the team “, he told DAZN after the meeting.
This success takes on a particular dimension in view of his career. Trained in Cesena then recruited by Bologna, Raimondo did not experience linear progression. After an encouraging experience at Ternana, where he scored nine goals in Serie B, his stints at Venice and Salernitana were much less convincing. The trigger finally came from his meeting with Massimiliano Alvini in Frosinone. Under the orders of the Italian technician, he has regained confidence and efficiency, scoring eleven goals last season to contribute to the club’s promotion. “ I was coming off a season where I had been really bad. Thanks to him, I am making considerable progress “, he admitted. Left-handed at 1.85 m, Raimondo also has an interesting profile: mobile, capable of attacking from deep and participating in combinations, he is not content to wait for balls in the area. Qualities which today allow him to take a step forward against more experienced defenses.
Juventus already wants to take action
Its performances logically begin to go beyond the borders of Frosinone. According to La Gazzetta dello SportJuventus is carefully monitoring Raimondo’s progress and could consider an offensive from the winter transfer window. The young striker particularly appeals to Giovanni Carnevali, new general manager of the Bianconeri, who wants to rely on Italian talents to build the future of the club. The need to recruit in January will, however, depend on the evolution of the Turin offensive sector, in particular the return of Jeff Ekhator, expected between the end of October and the beginning of November. The Old Lady is not alone on the file since several Premier League teams are also monitoring the attacker.
But Raimondo’s future remains above all in the hands of Bologna, which holds his rights until June 2028. Frosinone wants to keep his striker until the end of the season, while the owner club does not intend to rush a decision regarding his future. Juventus could nevertheless try to secure his recruitment from January while letting him finish the year on loan, as they did with Federico Gatti. A formula which would allow the young Italian to continue his progress with playing time, without preventing the Turinese from getting ahead of the English competition. For its part, the management of Bologna will soon have to look into this matter, while Raimondo’s contract will expire in less than two years.
