According to ESPN journalist Rodra , Real Madrid are increasingly optimistic about Kylian Mbappe’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, with confidence growing within the club ahead of the award ceremony.
While Florentino Perez is not expected to travel for Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona, Real Madrid will have a presence at the Ballon d’Or gala in London on Monday.
And, the club’s optimism surrounding Mbappe’s chances of claiming the individual prize has become stronger as the ceremony approaches.
Real Madrid believe Mbappe has a strong chance of winning the award
Mbappe winning the Ballon d’Or would represent a major individual milestone for the Real Madrid forward and a significant moment for the club.
Real Madrid’s growing confidence suggests they believe he has a compelling case to be recognised as the world’s best player.
The club’s presence at the ceremony also indicates that they will end their boycott of the awards after the disappointment of Vinicius Jr.’s loss to Rodri in 2024.
Mbappe enjoyed another record-breaking season at Real Madrid in 2025/26 despite the team not winning any major title.
The French superstar finished the campaign as the top scorer in La Liga – for a second consecutive season, as well as the UEFA Champions League.
To top it off, the forward also won the Golden Boot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leading France to a fourth-place finish.
A major achievement for Mbappe
For Mbappe, winning the Ballon d’Or would add another landmark to a career already defined by major performances on the biggest stages.
The France captain has drawn some criticism about the lack of major trophies at Real Madrid since joining the club in 2024.
But his individual performances have not been in question, which places him firmly in the conversation for the top prize. Real Madrid believe their forward is likely to receive the recognition they feel he deserves.
Whether that optimism is justified will become clear come Monday, with Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal also a strong contender for the top prize, along with Bayern Munich and England superstar Harry Kane..
