How Man Utd Could Line Up Under Julian Nagelsmann

Explore Manchester United's potential lineup with Julian Nagelsmann as manager, including key player roles and formations.

Manchester United have been linked with a move to appoint former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, who is now a free agent.

Michael Carrick is expected to be in charge for United's game against Bournemouth this weekend , according to GIVEMESPORT sources, but he is under pressure after their disappointing 4-1 defeat against Como.

As a result, it's understood that United are well prepared if they do need to make a change, with Nagelsmann a leading contender for the job.

Sources have confirmed that he would be open to joining United, who are currently succession planning in case they do sack Carrick.

As it stands, it's business as usual for United, with Carrick remaining in charge ahead of the weekend.

With Nagelsmann heavily linked with taking over, if United do make a change, we assess how the Red Devils could line up if he were to enter the dugout.

Nagelsmann has used multiple different formations during his career, most recently using a 4-2-3-1 with Germany and predominantly the same with Bayern Munich.

His 4-2-3-1 does differ slightly from Carrick's in that he has one full-back pushing incredibly high, with the other tucking in to make a back three at times.

This then leads to United's actual winger coming inside to central areas, almost having a double set of number 10s.

With Germany, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala were those two twin 10s, with the left-back almost becoming a left winger.

At Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies played this role brilliantly under Nagelsmann, with the opposite fullback then tucking in to make a back three.

United could have the ideal player for this role in Patrick Dorgu, which would then allow United to play Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha as double-10s.

Benjamin Sesko would be the ideal striker to lead the line for United, coming through the Red Bull system, meaning he should understand Nagelsmann's ideas from his time at RB Leipzig.

The goalkeeper would be unlikely to change, with Senne Lammens the clear number one for United. At the back, Mazraoui could be the preferred option as he's capable of tucking in to make a back three, while he's also played under Nagelsmann in the past.

The centre-back positions would likely be up for grabs, but Lisandro Martinez's ball-playing ability and pace could be crucial, while Leny Yoro offers something similar.

Left-back, as suggested, could be Dorgu due to the fact that he's comfortable playing higher up the pitch, and has the energy to get back to defend.

Carlos Baleba and Kobbie Mainoo should be the midfield pairing regardless of who is in charge, while Bruno Fernandes is always going to start in front of them.

Bryan Mbeumo could play on the right to hold the width, though Amad Diallo would also be a competent option in that position.

As mentioned, Cunha to play as a second no.10 when tucking in, while Sesko takes the number nine position.
