Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho is giving consideration to what would be a surprise formation selection for his side’s upcoming showdown with Barcelona.

This comes amid the understanding that Federico Valverde and Denzel Dumfries could join forces down Los Blancos’ right.

The right-back situation in Mourinho’s squad has of course grabbed headlines over the last week. This comes after Federico Valverde was afforded starting duties on the right of Real’s backline against Sevilla and RB Leipzig, despite both Denzel Dumfries and Trent Alexander-Arnold being fit.

And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, the Uruguayan is likely to be in from the off once more for El Clásico this weekend.

Valverde, however, would this time round be joined by Dumfries in a new-look right wing. As per a report from Marca :

> ‘José Mourinho is considering the possibility of playing with two full-backs, Dumfries and Valverde, leaving the captain to cover most of the right flank.’
