Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed a major injury blow with key player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The winger suffered the injury during Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter with Barcelona.

He appeared to twist his knee just before the hour mark. He was helped off the pitch by medical staff. PSG came out as 4-2 winners over Barcelona, thanks to goals from Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz.

It leaves them top of the Champions League League phase, having won all three of their games so far. But the injury to Kvaratskhelia will come as a big blow.

PSG confirmed the extent of the injury on their official website on Wednesday morning. “Having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo surgery in the coming days,” they wrote.

PSG suffered another double injury worry when striker Ousmane Dembélé was forced to leave the pitch in the first half, he was later joined by club captain Marquinhos. The club have confirmed that both players have suffered thigh injuries and will receive treatment over the ‘coming weeks’.

Giving the latest on his squad in his post-match press conference, PSG boss Luis Enrique said: "I am not the doctor. I am the coach.

> "The three injuries is the worst part of the game today. We will have to wait for the tests tomorrow.

> “They are three very important players, so it's really bad news, of course, but that's football."

Kvaratskhelia’s injury is likely to rule him out for the remainder of the season. The Georgia international has been a star of the PSG team who have won the last two Champions Leagues.

He was the player who was fouled to win PSG’s equalising penalty against Arsenal in last year’s final in Budapest. He was also on the scoresheet in the team’s 5-0 win over Inter as they claimed their first Champions League in 2025.

So far this season, he has scored twice and provided one assist in 11 games in all competitions.

The French giants will now have to try to retain the title without him. They are next in European action when they travel to take on Villarreal on Tuesday, 3 November (8pm kick-off).
