It’s promising to be an important couple of weeks for Lamine Yamal, who is tipped to win the Ballon d’Or and become the youngest receipient of the coveted trophy, overtaking Ronaldo Nazario.

However, for former Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi, Bayern Munich star Michael Olise is at the same level as Yamal.

Nzonzi, who currently plies his trade for Dunkirk, made the bold statement in the eve of Real Madrid’s game against his former club, Sevilla.

Olise on Lamine Yamal’s level

Asked whether his compatriot could be considered the equal of Barcelona’s Ballon d’Or contender, the former midfielder did not hesitate.

> “Yes, I firmly believe so. They are the two best wingers in the world, both have the status of stars and are unbalanced as well as being eye-catching. It seems to me that they are now on the same plane,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo ).

Nzonzi reserved his strongest words for Kylian Mbappe, whom he backed to claim the next Ballon d’Or.

> “Right now I think he is the best in the world. Although he has lacked the titles, what he has achieved on an individual level is impressive. I see that the forecasts speak of a lot of equality, but I think that the next Ballon d’Or should be for him ,” he said.

Nzonzi made clear that Yamal is not on the top of his list when it comes to deciding who wins the Ballon d’Or.

> “The Ballon d’Or should be for the best player or the one who has performed the most and I think there has not been anyone like Kylian,” he added.

High praise for Rodri

Finally, Nzonzi was glowing in his assessment of Rodri, hailing the midfielder as the finest in his position.

> “He’s very intelligent and very good at all levels. He dominates the midfield like few others. His last season at City was complicated by injury, but the World Cup he has had has been wonderful ,” he said.

> “He has shone in the best competition in the world and has shown incredible hierarchy. I think he’s the best at his position now. It’s a luxury for any team to have a midfielder like him ,” he concluded.

Rodri has indeed made an instant impact at Barcelona, playing a key role in the middle of the park and forming a remarkable partnership alongside Pedri.
