Manchester United's recruitment leaves Michael Carrick short on quality for the 2026-2027 season.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has been let down by INEOS and the recruitment team heading into the 2026-2027 season.

Carrick did a superb job in helping guide United to Champions League football last season, taking on the permanent job heading into the new campaign.

In the summer transfer window, United focused their recruitment on only signing midfielders, bringing in Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba.

Spending significantly on three midfielders, despite having Kobbie Mainoo in the team, didn't make a lot of sense.

There's no doubt United needed at least two new additions in the middle of the park, but money could have been better spent elsewhere instead of signing a third midfielder.

United are now short in certain areas, or at least short of quality in the squad.

United failed to bring in a left-back in the summer window, relying on Luke Shaw to stay fit all season.

Shaw failed to miss a Premier League game last year, which was incredible considering his injury record.

The English international has already started to pick up injuries this campaign, leading Carrick to play Dorgu at left-back.

Carrick had yet to play Dorgu at left-back since he arrived at the club, clearly seeing him as more of a winger, but he's now been forced to play him in defence.

Dorgu struggled against Manchester City, and it's clear to see that United should have brought in a new left-back.

The Red Devils could also have done with bringing in a natural left-sided attacker, especially if Carrick is going to continue with Matheus Cunha in the centre-forward position.

Marcus Rashford has been playing there of late, but they did appear happy to allow him to depart in the summer.

The Manchester derby was full of controversial moments but a poor showing quickly saw fans point blame at certain players - with one standing out.

Carrick has been let down by INEOS in the summer transfer window.

After qualifying for the Champions League, INEOS should have backed Carrick heavily in the summer and strengthened in various areas of the pitch.

Instead, they only look to strengthen the midfield, which has left them weaker in other areas.

There's no doubt United are going to struggle when it comes to playing multiple games in a week in Europe.
