It was only a few days ago that David Raum laid down a little challenge to Bayern Munich in an interview with ‘Sky Sport’.
Although he admitted that Bayern were no longer “quite on the same level” after the past two years, he said Leipzig had “the squad and the quality to hurt Bayern too and definitely come away with something. That’s why we’re going there with confidence.” Perhaps a little too much confidence?
You could certainly think so when looking at the half-time score. An overwhelmed Leipzig side were already 3-0 down after 34 minutes. Luis Diaz struck first (12’), before Alexander Pavlovic added a second in the 26th minute and Michael Olise made it 3-0 before the break.
Particularly painful: David Raum was involved in two of the goals conceded. He played the scorer onside for the opener, while the third goal conceded by Demichelis’ side stemmed from his misplaced pass straight to Laimer. A few passes later, the ball was upfield and straight into Leipzig’s net.
That challenge hasn’t aged particularly well, then. On the other hand, a football match famously lasts 90 minutes. Leipzig still have 45 minutes to avoid humiliation.
