Please welcome the teams of Canada. >> [music] >> Hello everybody and welcome to the second day's play in the UEFA Friendship Cup. The festival of under8 football taking place in Switzerland. This is the third edition of the competition and today we'll be seeing all eight nations play once again. All of them playing their second group games. Colombia and Korea Republic have kicked off a little while ago in their group A encounter just a stones through from here. Our focus here is on group B with Canada taking on Kivoir. A couple of teams looking to bounce back from defeat on Thursday. And ahead of the action we will have the national anthems. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [applause] >> Please remain standing for the national anthem of Canada. Thank you Canada. [music] [music] We [music] all sing [music] children. [music] >> [music] >> thousand [music] [music] [music] [music] of >> [music] [applause] >> Well, these two beaten in very different ways on the opening morning of play by Brazil and Spain respectively. Ivory Coast were going well. In fact, they were in front against Spain in a highly competitive and pretty feisty game. Canada were holding Brazil for a good while and then rather fell to bits towards the end and also had a player sent off. The meeting between Spain and Brazil is the closing match today in this UEFA friendship cup and everyone of course will be back in action nice and quickly on Wednesday when the group stage finishes. But everybody has a fourth game regardless of where they finish. Here's the Canada team. Lots of changes from both coaches. That's part of the point really. Six of them for Canada including starts for the Montreal pair Keed and Shooter Montgomery comes in at the back and it's a whole new front three. Bllythe Laros and Friend. They are missing Daniel Priito who would be starting at the back but he was the recipient of a well a yellow card and then another yellow card moments later. So he is suspended. referee. Here is Joel Bruner. Swiss officials all round as you might expect here in Neil. As for the coach Divvo, well, the only two outfield players not to feature against Spain were Junior Neor and Abdullah Senogo. And they both start next to each other in defense here. Seven changes all in, including in goal where Pierrick Kon plays. 16-year-old Wesley Boly who looks sharp in that short appearance against the Spanish gets the start up top. Making sure everyone in the squad gets a a minimum amount of game time across the four games. It's very much in the spirit of this competition. So, it's not so much a regular starters and fringe players concern. Ivory Coast went down 2-1 in the end to Spain. As I said, Canada were holding Brazil for a while. Just short the hour mark, they're only trailing Brazil by a single goal. But 30 minutes later with the Canadians finishing a man down, the Brazilians had ended up scoring six and they missed a penalty. So that was a little bit of a humbling. Shane Lammy and his team looking for a response here. Let's see if they can get it. This should be a keenly contested game and a pretty evenly contested one as well. I don't think either side's going to be winning this one 6-nil unless something very odd happens. The Col Complex here in the shadow of UEFA HQ hosted the Women's Friendship Cup earlier this year. We are now in the third edition of the men's version. The holders >> came from the conquer calf region. Canada will do well to match the feet of their American counterparts last time around. They're going to need to win this for starters. >> Not that it's all about winning, but you know what I mean. It will be Canada to kick off. and they kick off with Lucas Friend who plays in the States for Nashville. Looks like he's going to be the central figure in the Canadian front three. First touch for their captain and keeper Samzi Kater had to get rid of that in a hurry. You can see straight away tackles flying in. Here's Karuma brought in to start. >> So eager to get the pass away. It was an air shot. Three players playing for Canada here who didn't get a go at any point. >> BL Kea and Rowan Montgomery who's playing in the back four wearing 16 there. So a first action. >> Proud moments for them to represent their country. a >> tournament a long way from home. >> In case you're not familiar with the format, two groups of four, you play all three opponents in your group. And on the final day, which is uh at the end of next week, the two group first places will play each other in what is effectively the final. That'll close it out. But fourth place fourth and third place third and second place second before that. >> So regardless of your group positioning, there will be a final match to come. >> Four games for everybody. and a totally new set of eight nations in it. And that is how they do it and why they do it is to spread it as much as possible. Completely different eight nations from last time around. Sagal were representing Africa. This time around we have Kivoir obviously and Egypt who are playing England later. Come on. >> This is Pierrick Kel who plays here in Switzerland for ID on sport. something of a goalkeeping family as well. His older brother, Ivan, is the Ivory Coast under 23 goalkeeper. He is at Leon. >> That throw was looking for young Bali up front. Here he is wearing 19 for Ivory Coast. He's just joined Marles. Won't be 17 till next month. That was a strong challenge coming in there and a yellow card straight away for Drao Kuno. And some treatment's going to be required I think here. That was a seriously tough tackle. Something similar happened in the uh coach Dvar's first game. Actually, Abdul Dumbia went flying in on Utalas of Spain and was cautioned. On first viewing, it did look like a cautionable offense. He came in firmly there and Joel Bruner was right on the spot and had the card out of his pocket immediately. I wonder if he considered it was more than reckless. Nothing friendly about that tackle. It is an all new back five for K Divvoir. And I don't mean five defenders. I mean the keeper in the back four. None of them started >> game one. Thankfully, it looks like Prince Kea, who is getting his first action, is going to be able to continue. >> It's not a bad angle for a delivery to some far post runners here. curled in by Tristan Bllythe. >> Not quite enough on it. Excellent recovery pace there. And it's back with Captain Kater. There was an under 17 African Cup of Nations earlier this year. Ivory Coast won their group with quite a few of these lads playing. Couple of wins in a draw. ended up being well beaten at the quarterfinal stage by Egypt who they may well face a week or so from now when this competition concludes be some familiar faces there >> senior level obviously Ivory Coast three time AFCON winners some famous games some famous names Kunho back to Kona. >> Koulibali who has the armband on. One of the few players out there who did start the first game, Hamza Koulibali, he actually stayed on for all 90 minutes against the Spanish as well. Very much their anchor man in there at first choice. He'd probably be next to Abdul Dumbia who also played all 90 minutes and is on the bench. You can expect a lot of changes. Nine allowed in total, but only in three different stoppages after halftime, so it doesn't break it up too much. >> And just a reminder in case you've not seen this before, >> they want a result one way or another. So if it is a draw, both teams will get a point, but there is a penalty shootout. Not after extra time, just straight after the 90 minutes, there's an extra point for winning that. Ta under pressure here. >> Got 20 minutes against Brazil. The right back. >> One of four Montreal players in this starting 11 for the Canadians here. Lucas Friend is down. Now he's up again. Lots of pace, lots of frantic action, plenty of tough tackling. No chances yet. Maybe something here. Offside flag is up against Tristan Bllythe. [applause] Quick feet from Glow. It looked like he was pulled back there. That's some gig. >> That's a good long ball for Bali. Would have needed a miracle touch. I don't know if he was trying to bring that under control or >> score. One in a million first time volley lob. He's a confident boy. Not 17 till next month. >> That has also gone Canada as well. It's been pretty bruising so far. Lucas friend in the friendship cup was taken out and uh the referee Joel Bruner is first checking on his asalent. It will be a Canadian free kick. >> And uh you can see or maybe you can't but on the uh touch line here, coach Baseriki Diabate, coach Divoir, he's trying to get his captain Kulabali to calm down some of those challenges back there. They don't want to go down to 10 men and certainly not early anyway. He's already had one sighter at this. Tristan Bllythe from a a similar angle. This actually slightly better. >> The same cluster making far post runs await his delivery and that is disappointing. Still nearly made it through though. It comes back to him here. It's worth a hit. First shot of any note and it comes from Tristan Bl. And at the second attempt, it's been grabbed by Pierrick Konel. Absolutely worth a hit, I think. >> First shot of the game. First shot on target of the game. >> Good. He was closed down by Keer and now he's got a slightly tougher job. for Bomar Bay. Nice weight of pass there and friend trying to find a runner in the middle. No one would have made that near post run. Too's done nicely there. >> If anything, these opening 12 minutes maybe Canada looking the brighter, but that is a cheap turnover and suddenly it's four on four. Bali just left the ball behind. That's a hugely important challenge and well played Edwin Omarbe the enforcer in the Canadian midfield really doing his job there to get back and help the defense as they retreated. In the first corner of the game goes the way the coat divis. We have had an African winner of this very young competition. The first 2024 was held in Turkey. Marley beat Slovakia in that final. The Americans beat the Portuguese after a penalty shootout last year. Oh, it's a good delivery. >> He's coming right onto the head of Dreokin, I think. And Canadian head just got there first. Good job, too, I think. Otherwise, he'd have been powering that into a a semi unguarded net. Just had our first goal of the day on day two of play here. The career Republic one up against Colombia. >> Republic and Egypt gave us a bit of a thrill. in their opener. Lots of late drama and a two-2 draw. >> That's in group A. A reminder the other two in this group are Brazil and Spain. I'm sure there'll be a lot of local interest in that this early evening. Bley trying to get on it. Kapor is across. Ivory Coast keep attacking. >> Chooa couldn't let that one run all the way. They didn't have enough pace on the ball for that. But the game is moving at quite a pace. Kula Valley couldn't pull off the pass. It's forwarded by Breton in search of friend and out it goes. >> That's in terms of local interest. Admission to to watch these games in Neil is free, >> which is great to hear. People can just come along and watch. >> Furious pace in the opening 15. It's brought one shot of any note so far. >> Let's see what's coming here. >> Making their move on the far post there. That's definitely the plan. It was only just >> too deep for Rowan Montgomery. So close to a plan working to perfection. That was definitely the idea. >> Some decoy runners. He went round the back and it came towards him. It's just on the high side. >> Nicely done by Kea. who seems to have recovered from that crunching tackle. >> Very nearly ran for Lucas friend. >> Can't help themselves at the moment. and coach Dvoir just too eager to win it by whatever means just over the way there. Another goal in the group A match. Korea Republic who couldn't hang on to their lead for very long in game one against uh Egypt have already let their lead go again against Colombia. That one is 1-1. to kick off half an hour before this. It's >> it's coming up to Halime in that one. >> Canada making most of the attacking surges here. together. >> Tristan Bllythe is already getting a fair bit of practice in these set piece deliveries. >> Let's see if they try that corner routine again. Look out for Canada number 16, Rowan Montgomery. >> [cheering] >> Wonder if they will or whether once you've tried something once you shouldn't do it again. Now he's going near post this time and that nearly squeezed in. That >> bit of woodwork and a bit of goalkeeper's glove. Either way, deliberate or otherwise in it went. Cheeky little late challenge from Kapor there on coffee. Mory Dumbia infield to coffee and captain Kulabali keeps it moving. Shenogo Neori. friend keeps it in for Canada, >> but he can't keep hold of the ball. >> That's a nice weight of pass. A bit of promise here for K Divoir. At least it was until Farah got in with some neat standup defending. Have a look at that. I don't think that was necessarily the plan. Doesn't mean it didn't nearly work. Three attempts, two of them on target so far for Canada. Nothing yet from the boots or the heads of the Ivory Coast. >> Their youth teams tend to be called the Little Elephants for obvious reasons, but uh They don't look that little to me. >> They're a seriously physical side. >> Mory Dumbia here with the throw. Plays for Yamosro. The top flight of the Ivorian League. New season starts at the weekend actually. Hand ball there on the far side from Glow. And off we go again. Canada wasting no time at all. BL trying a little trick. Mori Dumbia didn't fall for it. >> He'll have to blow there the referee cuz the ball hit him. >> Uncontested drop ball. Kea Kunho straight up at him. Kea can get turned here. >> It's a very important block that from Kunho. Nicely done for Yan Cisi. His touch slightly heavy and that allowed Stephan Kapor in. >> Kapor of Toronto center back in front of him in central midfield. Edwin Omarbay also club teammate there. >> So to Tristan Bllythe up on this right wing here wearing 20 in front of us. And indeed Quentyn Belf is on the bench. Ambitious and over hit the pass there. It was meant for Bllythe. He's Dumbia. >> BL on his case immediately. Kea continuously closing down on Kun who backs himself to get out of that and does very well >> finding Bali. That was promising. Just left the bouncing ball behind. Wesley Boly >> Cheeky from Bllythe. Nicely done. >> The work rate from both sides here is such that there's someone pouncing on you for a tackle or a block immediately. >> Certainly in the uh in the middle third. Maybe at times they might stand off like here, but as soon as it then gets into this middle third, you got company. And it needs to be good. And that was good from Naore. And so was that first shot of the game for K Dwis. It's a little way off target for Yan Cisce here. See what he was trying. Then why not? He has already scored this season for the under 17s where he plays club football. That's in Bil Bao, Northern Spain for Athletic Club. >> Just turned 17. to the ball. To the ball, step. >> Wow, look at the footwork there. Superb from Kasi Coffee. It's quite a dangerous situation there. You see the confidence of young players nowadays are all >> broadly right across planet football. Youth team players everywhere on good surfaces encouraged to play out nine times out of 10. We've just seen it come acropper there but no problem for Canada as it turns out because Kapor has cleared it off Bali and that'll be a goal kick. Well, it's not been high on chances the opening >> first quarter here, but it's been high on effort and pace and firm tackling that is for sure. Shane Lambie you just saw on his horn is down there. Canada coach By quick delivery now real potential here for Ivory Coast Jan Cis suddenly there's a wall of red in front of him. Oh that's a penalty. That wall of red seemed to have done its job. They'd held him up and got the numbers back. didn't need to make this challenge. >> It was Stephan Kapor with it and it's a golden opportunity for Kat Divo who've only just had their first shot of the game to go in front which as we know they did against the Spanish. Chance to take another lead here and then have a go at holding on to it. >> Far more fouls by the Ivory Coast in this game, but that one a big one >> on them. Now Canada need Sami Keta to come to their rescue >> and he can't and the KIA leader number eight >> and the captain is spot on from the penalty spot. It's only a good penalty if it goes in. Maybe he saw Kater moving so he knew he could go up the middle. Doesn't matter. It's one n >> was really promising on the counter that move anyway. And the moment seemed to have passed when the trigger wasn't pulled. Shane Lammy trying to pick up the spirits here. They rather uh overly dishearten there the Canadians probably because they know they play quite well. Well, over an hour ago. What they don't want to do is concede a second here straight away. Should open things up nicely for the rest of the match. You would think little extra urgency for Kander to get back in it. Joseph Tutter here to >> Bllythe Montgomery. Nice ball falling away Kapoor >> with captain game one against Brazil. Stephan Kapor >> that's nicely worked into Kea looked bright I think so far this opening half hour >> difficult header Ly and watched onto the roof of the net by Pier Kai didn't have to make the save in the end Lucas friend could have done very well to put that in from there very difficult to get power on a header like that and he was a long way out but good to have any kind of attempt quickly after conceding Oh, they've pitched it here. Kea big moment. Chance for the equalizer and it's taken. [cheering] They've been gifted away back in. Inquest at the back for K Divoir. Zavier Lar Ro celebrates. It's 1-1. >> Goal scored for Canada by player number 19. >> Canada weren't behind for long. They have their first tournament goal and really good from Lucas Friend because he could have gone for goal himself there and he realized that his teammate was better placed. >> So a big pat on the back and the assist for Lucas friend and joy for Zavier Laros and all of Canada out there all square. K Divoir for the second time have let a lead slip. Let's see if they can get it back. 100% up >> defensive errors at both ends. And as we know at a good level of football, more often than not, mistakes will be punished. It's a needless foul that brought the Ivorian penalty and a needless turnover of possession brought Canada's equalizer. >> Yellow card straight out there forbait. referee right on the spot. I just wonder if Shane Lambie might have received one there as well. The coach seemed to wave it in his direction too. But certainly Edwin Elmorey for the the tackle in the middle of the park. And we will have a a chance here for the players to grab a drink, maybe have a chat with their coaching staff because there's some treatment required after that. But thankfully he looks okay. Hello. Hello. They didn't have to feel too disheartened for long, did they? Canada. Can't have been very lo
