Fourtime World Cup winners. This is the Brazil team that starts the tournament. Remember, all players in the squad have to play a minimum of 90 minutes across three games. So, even the more experienced ones here like Fim and Eduardo Conc will likely be rotated in and out of today and in the remaining three matches. Our referee today is Deborah Annex, a local referee from Switzerland. Canada have some senior experience in the team that they select today. Elan Hassan Farah Armed played in the Canadian Premier League as has Alexander Marov in the forward line. This tournament while a friendly one will allow Brazil further finetuning ahead of that allimp important under 17s World Cup in Qatar in November. Brazil's youngsters do have an awesome record. in that competition and they are likely to be the team to beat at the Friendship Cup 2. This tournament though is as the name implies predominantly a friendly one and the mixed team shot before we get underway. Lovely example of that too. The tournament is seen as far more than just a football competition. And it's designed to be something of a cultural exchange for its young participants. It is hoped that it will help promote their personal development as well as their uh footballing development both on and off the pitch. For most of these young players, the competition represents a first taste of international tournament football and perhaps also a first experience of a different language and a different culture. It is hoped that the tournament will create an environment where players also learn from one another and uh develop connections through football and make new friends. All the teams stay and train in the local villages. Between match days, they take tours of the local area and gain experiences of new places, allowing them to forge friendships with athletes from very different backgrounds. Quick word on format in these games. Three points for a win, one for a draw. However, if we are tied at 90 minutes, we proceed to a penalty shootout with the winner of that gaining an extra point. So, effectively uh two points for winning on penalties, one for losing, ensuring that every game counts towards the total. On finals day, on match day four, the teams from group B play the side that finished in their place in group A, ensuring uh a playoff game for everyone involved. Brazil will get us underway here. Keep an eye out for Brazil's number 10, Edoardo Conso Sao, who has a remarkable goalcoring record from midfield and is among their biggest hopes for the immediate and long-term future. Here he is immediately on the ball. >> That was an attempted cross rather than a shot, but Appropriate that conc should be the first man to work a goalkeeper here. >> Touch for Del Rio and he was pulled down by Marcus Pesichi. Prabito, >> another of the lads who is more accustomed to playing senior football, recently signed a professional contract, the first of his career with his club, Cavalry FC. Opportunity here for puppy. >> No way through Cersei riding the challenges. Cape happy to let it go through to Arur Sen in goal. Brendules's pass a little wayward. Canada with a throw. These Friendship Cup games are Canada's first fixtures >> since their under8s completed their unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign February. This is going to be another tough test for them today. >> Pesi clear by Bindu. An opportunity for Canada here though would have been were it not for Torres's errant pass. >> Del Rio early ball from him. >> Brazil able to clear the danger. Zillian free kick. >> Brendu, both of the Brazilian central defenders >> extremely comfortable on the ball as you would expect. caught in possession there. Here's Del Rio. >> Sides appealing. The decision goes Brazil's way to Arur Sen Wendell. Brazil playing their way through that Canadian press. Well, >> Canada do eventually force the turnover. >> Brazil have it back with Pope Lima happy to take the throw. Another Wendell Bindu is on the books of Gio in Brazil. Virtually all of their players are based in Brazil whereas the Canadian squad is more of a cosmopolitan lot. Some of them based in Europe, some of them in North America. Now Brienne Lima around the back. Could be an opportunity here for Brazil. deflected behind for a corner and the alarm bells certainly ringing at the back there for Canada. >> Marus Pesi will go across to take the corner for Brazil. just uh being told to make sure that the ball was in the quadrant. >> Fullback eventually driving it in it was who got it away for Canada. Lemur couldn't have been marked any closer than he was by Alo Bratton. through for Pappe. And >> another throw on that far side for Brazil. Smashed wide that time by Rodrigo Zuno. >> Already the signs are that it's going to be a tough task for the Canadian defenders to contain this Brazilian side. Kater with the restart for Canada. Got >> a tussle going on between Fine and Hassan Farah Amed. It's another good ball with Brienne Lima, a regular outlet over on the left for Brazil and flashed dangerously across the face of goal this time. There's nobody able to make the telling touch with eight minutes gone. It is certainly Brazil that are looking the more likely to open the scoring here. Rio battling for it. Torres [snorts] with the little flick. Came to nothing. Here come Brazil down that left again. They're getting a lot of joy down that side, but not this time. Brazil are fourtime winners of the under 17 World Cup and they lead all of the statistical charts in that tournament for games played, wins and goals at the tournament. They will start November's tournament as the number one seeds >> in Catala in a group with Costa Rica, Tanzania, and the Republic of Ireland. But they're on the defensive here. They pass just out of the reach of Santiago del Rio, but it's a little more positive for Canada. They haven't really been able to ask too many questions of the Brazilian defenders just yet to Brendu seeing as much of the ball as anyone for Brazil. Now concur through the middle in addition to his impressive footwork. Edoard concises a impressive physical specimen as well. Got a lot of upper body strength and power about him. >> Be a difficult man to keep quiet. I think away to Ilassan Far Amed. Like a foul by Cersei. Whistle by referee Annex. Neat little nutmeg we saw there from Concis. Just another little taste of his range of skills. Nasty looking collision there involving uh Coui Fee. I think has stayed down. >> Obvious concern from the officials and medical staff. over on that far side. >> Yellow card shown to Canada's Daniel. In qualifying for the World Cup, Canada won two of their three matches but lost the all important one, the decider with Jamaica which took them to this year's tournament instead. They did play in last year's under 17 World Cup though. The Canadians, they got out of the group stage with four points which was a first. They lost to the Republic of Ireland on penalties in the round of 32. Brazil throw a decent early ball which gave Canada a problem momentarily. Hassan for Amed eventually got it away with the quick throw for Brazil. Look like they're starting to go through the gears here. >> Hakeim S's pass intercepted. >> Might fall for Del Rio. The pass wasn't intended for him, but after Torres missed it, it almost fell for the winger. Just beat to that one by Salis. Now Wendell >> still going. Dian Lemur up ahead of him. Slightly too heavy on the cross, but it's still on here for Brazil. >> Work from the fullback Pesi once again who gets forward very well. And >> Brazil strong in the challenge too. Canada really struggling in the opening quarter hour here to hold on to the ball. >> They are managing to hold Brazil an arms length for now. Forcing them backwards on this occasion. >> Good strong challenges there from Edwin Omarbe. Salis, Brendu. He was ball forward. Intercepted by Breton. Rendu >> Brazil continue to >> dominate possession here. No clearcut chances just yet for either side. Four tubes from restarts for Canada. >> Torres, Del Rio. That was uh not the best choice >> from Omarby. Turned right into his opponent >> and Rodrigo Junor winning the corner as a result. >> Just don't think he knew that his opponent was uh there. >> Bit more communication needed perhaps in the Canadian ranks. Their immediate focus must be on defending this >> Brazilian corner. >> Virtually everyone forward for the South American side. Rian Lima skipping past the challenges. Another deflection on that cross. So another corner coming up. >> They seem to like their fullbacks taking the corners. Brazil. Risha Wendell whipped in that last one. And it will be Marcus Pesi to deliver right footed at the other side. But before he does so, there will be a bit of a warning here for Liam Torres. Think >> he was tangling with Brinu Salis >> ahead of the corner. >> Another deep delivery. No real problems for Canada that time. >> And with 18 and a half minutes played here, it's still goalless here in Neil. In >> today's other game in group B, Spain beat Ivory Coast by two goals to one earlier on. >> Spain are Brazil's next opponents. It's breaking up for Brazil here for Keem. Leak footwork and what a finish pushed away. >> Decent stop from Sami Kater who saw it all the way even if we didn't. >> So another corner coming up. Risha Wendell once again >> to deliver an inswinger. >> Be another test for Kater on the way. He was up to it. The goalkeeper just still not clear. >> Now Canada can put some distance between themselves and their penalty area. The offside flag eventually went up there. >> So, it will be a free kick to Canada to Kapor was under pressure there as he made that clearance. San Ahmed del Rio was in the way. Place for Halifax wanderers. Hassan Farah Ahmed made his first professional start for them recently. Here's Torres trying to go between two. Bindu and Pesi between them. Close the door in his face. >> Riby getting in there. Del Rio Ahmed. This is promising. It's Torres who just eased out of shooting range there by David Brendu. >> That little spell of possession in and around the Brazilian box. Probably the best moments we've seen from Canada so far. Ready? Ready. given away by Brazil. And here is Liam Torres who is on side. Big opportunity for the Canadians. Not taken by Liam Torres. The flag did eventually go up, I believe, for offside. So that should spare the Canadian forward some blushes. Nevertheless, he would have preferred to have hit the target. free kick to Canada as Elan Hassan Farah Ahmed was sent flying. >> Stefan Kapor, the Canadian captain, will take it. Midway through the first half here, still goalless between these two and quite an interesting contest developing. Canada seem to be growing into the game after a slightly uncertain start. >> Katus restart Torres throwing his weight around up front. That was a test for Sen. He took the pass very clearly, took the ball very cleanly. Now Brazil in three against two here. Great defending from Kapor to put off Lima I think it was. >> Things look decidedly dodgy there for the Canadians for a moment or two. >> Kapor clears again. Up up up. Kapor over to Kriov. That's an unfortunate mistake and it's left Canada in a spot of bother here. Brienne Lemur pulls it across and Canada get it away. Causing their own problems at the moment. Canada loose passes out of defense and finding themselves short manned as Brazil get numbers forward quickly. >> Goal kick is the final outcome this time. Kato once again trying to get as much distance on his kick as possible, but a clear shove from Liam Torres results in a Brazilian free kick. >> He's doing his best, the young lad up front for Canada to try and um something of a physical presence up there. >> It's not easy. They're finding it very very difficult to get it out of their own half. Canada Concis. Oh, lovely skills from Conc. And he smashed it into the back of the net and Brazil lead here with 27 minutes on the clock. Player number 10, >> Eduardo concard. I >> told you he was the man to look out for. >> A regular source of goals from midfield and he showed a lovely touch here just cutting inside Daniel Pribu before unleashing a ferocious shot past Sami Kater. Brazil very good value for that lead >> and Eduardo concises perhaps their most impressive player out there has got himself on the score sheet. >> Kapor Test of character now for >> the Canadian lads. Given away a free kick, good Reby in the way that time for Canada. >> Brenu back to Arur Sen who's had very little to do so far between the sticks for Brazil. foul by J Abu Bakr I think or was it Marov? >> Either way, it was uh one that the referee had to stamp down on. It was Abu Bakar that went into the book. Second booking among the Canadian players. window. >> Flipped on by Rodrigo Jun. >> Foul given away by Breton, I think it was. I think Canada are struggling a little bit >> in terms of coping with the the power that some of those Brazilian midfielders have got. Overcompensating a little giving away a succession of free kicks. >> 15 minutes left in the first half here as Brazil seek a second goal. off and against the angle of post and bar. Remarkable effort from distance. I think it was conceded gets anything on this. just came back off the frame of the goal and then Edoardo Pap puts it over the top from about 12 yards and Canada can consider themselves a touch fortunate not to be too down. Phenomenal strike that was from the dead ball. behind >> Salis to Sen taking his time. Good work by >> Belony in the midfield. >> Trying to center it, but do work from the center forward. Lower. Lower. Knee up. Lower. Knee up. Rendu sen Brazil finished fourth in last year's number 17's World Cup, losing on penalties in the semiinal to Portugal and also losing to Italy in the playoffs. penalty. So technically they did not lose a game in the entire tournament. >> Challenged by Elan Hassan Farra Ahmed. Fake did well on the throw too. >> Del Rio dispossessed away for Keem. Del Rio trying to get back at him, but it's still for Keem. Brian Lima searching for this second goal, but Lima will be disappointed with that shot. Canada have really struggled to get Alexander Makarov >> into the game over on the right wing. >> Arguably their most experienced player of getting the ball away there. An important clearance for Canada. Torres playing the one two with Marov who could be in here. Good defending from Salisakar's pass out to Marov. All of a sudden, he's starting to see the ball. Way past Risha Wendell. 10 minutes left in the first half. Brazil's onegoal lead not really under any threat at the moment. The Brazil bench didn't like that challenge from Omarby. Took a swipe at the ball and missed it completely. Got a chunk of player instead. Here's Fake Keem. Good interception by Ahmed. Breton back to Ahmed. Now it's Abu Bakr Macker of the target. Sist winning the all important header. >> These Friendship Cup games can often change quite dramatically in the second half because that's when the substitutes start arriving. window to Cersei Sis for Keem. Now it's uh Pesi quite come down for Rodrigo Juno. Brazil still in possession as they have been for the lion share of the opening 37 minutes. sheet. Lovely one-touch football from Brazil. Now it's Pape saw two red shirts descending upon him. Now Del Rio played by Santiago Del Rio. got it back from Breton. He had his legs taken away from him, did he? The referee gave nothing. Fact, it was the second challenge from Elisa Breto that received the punishment. And no complaint from Santiago del Rio to be fair. So maybe he just lost his footing. There it is. Alisa Breton that goes into the book. >> The third Canadian player to be cautioned in the first half here. Salis misplaced pass from him. He and Brendu have been pretty good at bringing that ball out from the back. It's been a big part of the way that Brazil have been able to dominate this first half. >> Quinton Belf will restart for Canada. He's had his work cut out at right back. That's for sure. >> Thank you very much. >> Challenge from Ahmed. >> Torres did well. Couldn't quite pick out Breton. There's a bit of a gap here fortunately for Ahmed and Canada for Keen was offside. Bay finding Breton Ahmed and again for >> surrounded by Canadian players but riding all of those challenges. Five minutes left in the first half here. Brazil will be well satisfied with the way things have gone. >> And I think it's been a a useful experience for the Canadians too. It's been difficult for them, but they've stuck at it and they're still very much in this contest. Belon >> intercepted by Wendell to have it back with Abu Bakr. I was asking rather a lot of Santiago del Rio. as she hurls it downfield where Ahmed was there. Abu Bakr Marov to his right has lost his footing there. Abu Bakr. Can he keep it in play? Yes, he can. Did extremely well there. The flying winger. Now it's on his left foot. Conceal shot charged down. Took his time over that one. Allowed the Canadian defenders to get back into a recovery position. Nevertheless, Brazil do continue to look the more dangerous team here. Kapoor back to Ka to Belf. >> Very neatly done by Liam Torres. >> Important challenge from Bindu who recovered well. Pin Bindu >> very comfortable in possession. Brazil no signs of panic even when they've got opponents breathing down their necks. I think satisfied enough to take a >> a one- nil lead into the break. >> Beaten to the header. >> Brienne Lemur out wide. Another disappointing final effort. >> It's not the first time we've seen that >> sort of a situation develop >> and come to nothing. Torres penalized. >> Andell done by Cersei. Referee says no foul as Cersei bites the dust. Brazilian throw. I think >> despite the best efforts of Eloton challenged by Omarby once more giving it away to Pesi. Be one last chance for Brazil at the end of this first half maybe. Good tidying up from Kapor, but >> a job on his hands trying to get this ball away. >> Actually foul. Did well the skipper in the end. >> A minimum of one minute of additional time will be played. Just the one added minute at the end of this first half a thinker wanted it there but was able to complete a decent enough clearance. Chris Pesi winning the throw for Canada. They could do with just a little regroup, a little rethink at Halime. not quite been able to impress their game upon the Brazilians who have been the superior side so far. Just the one goal in the game
