[Music] Hello and welcome along to transfer talk. Six days remain in the transfer window and we still don't know whether Alexander Isac will remain in the Northeast. The Newcastle hierarchy held talks with Isac at his house as the standoff over his future continues. We are live to Newcastle this hour for the latest. Newcastle make their move meanwhile to find a replacement for Callum Wilson, but their bid for Jorgen Strand Len fails at the first attempt. Rasmus Hland's exit at Manchester United is moving closer with Napoli in pole position to sign him. And is Manuela Kangji a replacement for Mark Gay? Crystal Palace make an approach to sign the Man City defender. [Music] Very good afternoon to all of you at home and of course once again to James Cindra and former Newcastle and Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick. You'll hear from them both in a moment, but only one place to start and that is of course Alexander Isac. Let's go live to Newcastle and speak to our reporter Keith Downey who's there for us. Morning Keith. So what happened at Isach's house last night? >> Oh, I think we'd all like to know the answer to to that question. And look, we'll be endeavoring to find out how that meeting ended. But, uh, two of the the club's directors, Jamie Rubin, who's been at the forefront of Newcastle's transfer business this summer, and also Jacob Solless from the PIF, visited Alexander Isac yesterday in the buildup to to kickoff um to discuss the the situation of course that has surrounded him for the majority of this summer. as we know, Alexander Isach training away from the the group. He he refused to play against Liverpool last night, who of course, as we know, are trying to sign him, refused to play against Aston Villa in the in the season opener, the week before that as well, and has been for the majority of the summer agitating to leave the the football club. Now, it'll be interesting to see what comes out of that meeting. whether it was a case of a a last try from uh the PIF, the club's owners, to try and convince Alexander Isach to stay. I would suggest with the the promise of a a new contract, a pay rise and the ability to to maybe leave next summer or was it a discussion to say, look, yes, h you could actually move on to to Liverpool because as we know, they are still interested in signing the Newcastle striker. And of course, just to add intrigue and an extra mystique to the whole situation, of course it was Liverpool uh who were playing Newcastle here last night here at St. James's Park and of course left with our 3-2 win thanks to that 100th minute winner. So there was a sting in the tail for Newcastle United last night. Will there be a sting in the tail with this Alexander Isac situation? I still don't think it's written in stone as to whether the Swedish striker will remain or leave. But of course, if he was to leave for Liverpool between now and Monday's deadline, it would be for a Premier League transfer record and Newcastle working furiously in the background to try and line up a couple of replacements. But that has been the case of course for for a number of weeks now. Hard question to answer this, Keith, but how do you expect things to unfold then over the next six days? >> Yeah. Well, look, I think I think the best way to explain it is plates are spinning at the moment. That has been the case for some time. Look, we we knew that Newcastle have tried to bring in a couple of replacements for Alexander Isac to allow him to move to Liverpool. They came so close for Benjamin Cesco who opted for Manchester United. They came so close for Hugo Eatik who of course ironically scored here at St. James's Park for Liverpool last night in in that 3-2 win. But they're they're spinning plates. They're trying to bring in replacements. I still believe that if Newcastle managed to bring in two replacements, he will be allowed to go. But there is a there is a feeling from certain um elements from within the club, certain people from the club that they would love Alexander Isac to stay. done more so than the manager Eddie how who has gone on record as to say he would love to have him at his disposal but he did after the match Eddie how last night essentially plead for a bit of clarity on this situation because it's dragged on for so long and it's certainly overshadowed the buildup to tonight's match against Liverpool. So look as we've been saying for a number of weeks Newcastle trying to sign Yoan Whistler from Brenford. Um there is still hope that a deal can be struck there, but of course I've had two offers turned down. The first for £25 million last month, then the second a couple of uh just over a week ago for £40 million. I feel that's Newcastle's limit. It'll be interesting to see if the two clubs come come back together to try and get a deal done with Brenford actively in the background looking for a striker of their own. And the second is the news that we brought to you yesterday that Newcastle had a 50 million pounds offer to Wolves turned down for their striker Jorgen Strand Larson. 50 million package all up front. No add-ons turned down. Wolves say they want to keep him. They can't lose him. They've lost a number of players this summer. It'll be interesting to see whether Newcastle go back in with a with a second offer there. But look, they are very active. They're still trying to sign players this transfer window. And I think that is because there's still a a chance, a decent chance that Alexander Isac could leave between now and Monday's deadline. A lot can change in the next five or six days and it's a very very fluid situation here at St. James's Park right now. Great stuff. Cheers, Keith. >> Okay, well that is the new cast of perspective. Let's get to Peter Stevenson and uh have a Liverpool perspective now. Afternoon Peter. Uh now that the game is gone between the two sides at St. James's Park, is there an expectation that Liverpool will bid for Isac once again? >> I think that was almost the the theory at the start of the week and as you say, getting last night's game out of the way with that really hostile reception for Liverpool and and rubbing salt into the wound by actually walking away with a dramatic uh 100th minute winner and all three points. Um just would have have satisfied Liverpool. no end. But as you say, today uh letting the dust settle and and assessing where things are, they will have picked up, I'm sure, on that meeting between U Isach and his uh and the club's hierarchy yesterday. You sense that Liverpool at the moment maybe just have to be a little bit patient. Uh maybe they will wait for encouragement uh before deciding their next move and whether that next move uh involves increasing their bid, we don't really know at this stage. It's been all quiet this morning. Um, as Keith was alluding to there, there's there's only a few days left. Uh, there's a lot of potentials. Uh, there's a a domino effect possible there if if everything falls into place. But the bottom line is um it would appear uh from from the Miy side point of view that Newcastle are digging in their heels and trying everything they can to persuade Isach to stay. Eddie how saying last night as well that he wanted the uh players that really wanted to play at the club to to stay there. that those were the type of players that he wanted. So you can sense that sort of desperation from the Newcastle end especially with their injuries last night and their suspension that they picked up. So Liverpool at the moment I think content to play the waiting game um and really waiting for information from that meeting. That would appear to be key uh to how this longunning saga that's dominated the summer how it will eventually pan out. >> So is it EAC or bust for Liverpool now or have they got other targets as well? Well, if you look at the the the opening two results, the evidence of that suggests that weirdly um scoring goals for Liverpool at the moment and wanting a top striker uh doesn't appear to be too much of a problem. They scored four against Bournemouth. They scored three last night. Um and and in many ways, they seem to have plenty of options up top. Um I think a lot of their supporters if you ask them will express great concern about the way things are at the back and certainly Canate has has looked really unsure and unsteady for the opening two games. They've conceded two goals in both those opening games and they didn't concede two goals in a Premier League game last season until the end of October. So that's an indication maybe about how potentially wobbly their back four is at the moment. And you've only got to look at Van Dijk last night. uh he walked away with some serious stud marks down his Achilles. If that had have been worse and we were looking at Van Dijk missing games, then again, you see the fragility of of that back four. So Mark Gay's long been talked about as as a possible replacement. Um I'm sure on the evidence maybe of of last night, Liverpool might be again looking at that and might be thinking uh it's the back four that needs sorting out certainly we've still got plenty of options up top. Uh, and not in the least, we've still got a a bright little uh 16-year-old who can come on and score goals for fun when he wants to, even in the dying minutes of a big game. So, at the moment, all quiet. Uh, I think it's a patient waiting game, but it could spark into life, I think, at any minute. Thank you, Peter. >> Right, some breaking news for you concerning West Ham. West Ham have agreed a 17.3 million pound fee with Monaco to sign the midfielder Sungu Magasa. The agreement consists of a guaranteed payment of 14.7 million plus2.6 million in add-ons. There is still some work to do to finalize the rest of the deal, but West Ham are edging closer. James, I want to get your thoughts on this actually because listening to phoneins and and shows the last few days, West Ham fans have been screaming out for midfielders. So, they should be happy at this news, >> I think. So, it's been a desperate start for Gran Potter. They've conceded eight goals already this season. Their opening home match the season, they conceded five, and it could have been more. Chelsea could have pushed for for even more in the end, but we know West Ham have been looking for midfielders in this transfer window. They've been trying to sign Matez Fernandez who's more of a number eight from Southampton. Whether or not they can revisit that, we wait to see. Southampton are probably quite well equipped now. They've got the money in for Tyler Dibbling. So, they may not feel like that they necessarily need to sell. At the same time, they have been looking for a defensive midfielder. Masa certainly would fit that. He's 21 years of age. He played 31 times for Monaco in league last season. And when you look at West Ham's midfield, it doesn't look quite right right now. They they've let Edson Alvarez leave on loan. He's gone out of the the Turkish Super League and in the first game of the season they played um Fernandez, they played they played Rodriguez alongside Wardprow that didn't quite look right. Such alongside Wardprow in the game against Chelsea. That wasn't quite there. They need legs in midfield and that 21 he could be someone that that could provide it. I do think Potter would like two midfielders between now and the end of this transfer window because they need to turn things around pretty quickly. Just two games into the season. As you mentioned, West Ham fans are not happy right now. Could Masa be the sort of player that can help get them back on track because they seriously need to to turn things around already. We're still in August and things feel feel pretty desperate there right now. >> Yeah. Well, just a glimmer of hope then with with Sutu Masa. We'll keep you posted if that gets over the line. Does sound like it could be happening soon. Right, let's get back to Isach then, Jeff. And from Newcastle's point of view, surely they can't allow him to leave with little prospect of getting a suitable replacement in. Yeah. Uh, it depends how how last night's talks went with the with the ownership group. Um, time is ticking now. I feel like it it's getting later and later and for them to get people in to replace him, it's it's difficult. Like we said earlier, they maybe haven't they haven't even replaced Wilson yet. >> And then if they're going to lose EAC as well, it's a it's a bit of a sticky situation for them. and and with it dragging on for for weeks and and months, obviously the whole the whole club want him to stay and and that seems to be the best decision for them, but I think ultimately it might come down to what was what what was talked about yesterday. >> Yeah. Well, I wanted to come on to that actually. It's a bizarre situation, isn't it? Couple of coowners going round to a player's house to try and convince to try and convince him to stay. It might have been something else. But going around to his house, what can we read into that? Have you ever heard of that situation before with an owner going to a player's house? >> No, I don't think I've heard of that. No. Uh reading into it for me, it's because it's dragged on so long, it's it seemed messy. The whole the whole vibe around it is it's a little bit toxic from it. depends what fan base you >> you're looking at it from. But for them to step in and go to his house, it's sort of >> it's like they're trying to show a stronghold um and and get them to stay at the club because I think they they see how much they really need him to stay now. >> Yeah. >> But James, does that also sort of highlight that there's been a power vacuum at Newcastle? Because normally that would be sporting director would do that job go round to the house or the manager even not on a game day obviously but >> they've been in a really difficult situation because the CEO will be departing due to to ill health and Paul Mitchell the sporting director things didn't quite work out there so it's been Andy how who's been doing a lot of the work doing a lot of the deals for for Newcastle and you can't really blame Newcastle for the deals they've not got done because the fact is Newcastle are in the market for some of the best players in the world which maybe they weren't three or four years ago. They're now competing to try to get the likes of Brian and Bumo, Xiao Pedro, Benjamin Cesco, Yug Katik. But it's not been that these players haven't want to join and haven't been convinced by the Newcastle project. They've just seen other better fits. You're talking about these players going to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool who've got that history there which Newcastle haven't had in the last 20 years. But it has me meant they've been in a really difficult situation in terms of finding a replacement for Callum Wilson, let alone one that could come in and replace Alexander Isac, which means that as things go towards the end of this this deadline in this window, it's becoming more and more unlikely that ESAC leaves, even if they get the money they want for him because at this moment in time, they can't sign one replacement when they need two. >> Well, that's the thing, isn't it? The fact they haven't replaced Wilson, that's not helping EAC at all, is it? In terms of get wanting to get a move. >> No. And there's a sim similar situation with Yan Whistler at Brenford. They only want to let Whistler go if they've got a replacement for him. So you need a lot of things to to fall into line for these deals to to happen. And when you look at the fact that clubs know that Newcastle have money to spend, they know that they've gone into the market to sign the likes of Cesco. They agreed a deal to sign Cesco for around£65 million. So selling clubs know that Newcastle have this money and that's why clubs like Wolves and Brenford don't want to sell the likes of Strand Lars and Whistler on the cheap when they know Newcastle are desperate. They have that money to spend. So it means that Newcastle are in a situation where do they pay over the odds for players to simply ensure they've got strikers in or they hold their nerve when it comes to the ESAC situation and hope that they can find a way of reintegrating him and getting him back to the level that he's been at the last two seasons scoring more than 20 Premier League goals in both of those. >> Okay, we've got a uh transfer update just into us. Sheffield United are in talks with Danny Ings over a possible deal and are hopeful of landing the former Liverpool and West Ham striker. He's available on a free having left West Ham earlier this summer. The medical happening today. A deal could be completed this week as Ruben Sez adds some much needed experience to his squad and they've not got off to a great start of the season either. So Danny Ings could be heading to Sheffield United. Let's get to Chelsea. They are expecting to be busy this week with plenty of players futures still to be resolved. Gary Kotrol is at their training ground for us this morning. Possibly smelling a bit of of wet blazer cuz he was very very wet the last time we saw him but he's taken it off which looks like probably a good decision and it looks like the rain has stopped too which is good news. Uh Gary, you've seen the squad trading this morning. Any noticeable absentees? You're very very observant. Uh, and I can tell that you spend time out on the road as well because you know when you get a very very very very wet jacket when the rain stops, the best thing to do is take it off. So, yep, you got it exactly right. The jacket is in the car. And by the way, I'm not sure it was worth filming training, was it? Cuz most of it, we just saw the corner of another cameraman's shoulder. They were training right around the corner, weren't they? Um, it was so wet that I couldn't even see the monitor to comment about that. But listen, we did see them all come out. counted them out uh of the dressing room onto the training pitch and we were looking for Cole Palmer. Of course, we were looking for Cole Palmer and Cole Palmer, I can confirm, didn't train in that training session. He is at the training ground. He's doing his own work away from the rest of the squad. They're just being very cautious with him because he felt his groin, didn't he? Some groin discomfort in the warm-up at the London Stadium on Friday night. Didn't manage to take part in the game. had to be taken out of the squad because of that discomfort in the warm-up. We're told it's something that he's been struggling with a little bit since the Club World Cup. He has been trying to play to do his best for Chelsea, but it became just too much during that warm-up. And so he's doing his own work in the pool, in the gym, just trying to take things as easy as possible for him and with him so that he might be available for the match against Fulham on Friday lunchtime and of course potentially hopefully for England fans available for selection to the England squad, but not out there with the rest of the squad. I have to say, as we suspected, you can tell he's not too bad and he's feeling all right in himself because he spent part of the weekend at the Notting Hill Carnival, didn't he? In disguise. Um, and if he hadn't posted pictures of himself on his own social media sites, you wouldn't have been even even have known it was him because it was such a disguise. So, yeah, they had the weekend off the Chelsea players. He went to the Notting Hill Carnival, but not fit enough quite to train with the rest of the players yet. We'll get an update on of course just where he is with that injury from Enzo Moresco later in the week. >> There's been a lot of focus, hasn't there, on players that could leave. Nicholas Jackson right at the top of that list. So, what what's the latest on potential departures? Well, he wasn't out there with the rest of the first team either today. We mayb
