Okay, only one place to start and that is by looking ahead to the huge game tonight, Joe. The mighty Tottenham Hotspur travel to Stanford Bridge to take on Chelsea. I am fully aware. I've read the stats pack. I'm a Tottenham. I know that Tottenham's record isn't brilliant at Stanford Bridge. That's But we've got a Chelsea and Spurs fan in the studio. >> Yeah, absolutely. So, the boys are going to be going headto-head today to build out a Chelsea and Spurs combined 11. But this is going to be based on Chelsea's formation because we always do a back four, don't we? So, we want to see how many players Ben can fit into a back five system that Chelsea are currently operating with. A couple of rules. You can't pick players that are out with long-term injuries. So, no Reese James. We're also kind of going to disqualify Emmy Martinez. I think he looks like he's going to be out for a while with that bad facial injury. So, get well soon, Emmy. But he's disqualified as well. >> Okay. So, how many Spurs players can get into this Chelsea team? Let's start with the keeper. >> Come on, Ben. Lay it out there early. >> Couple of Spurs. I'm Spurs. Penders versus Kinsky. Matis, do you want to kick us off? >> I think um I thought Kinsky did very well last season to be fair when he came into the team. Um but I think this season he's made a lot of mistakes and I'm going with the unknown in the Premier League in Penders because obviously he hasn't had the opportunity to play more than more than a game or more than a 20-minute period when Martinez comes off. But the the the form that he showed at Strazborg and the potential that he has and what he's labeled to become, I don't think Kinsky is even in those types of conversations. We're talking about potentially the next cotto 6'7, you know, massive reach, claims corners and crosses, great distribution out of the back. And then we're talking about a player that's made loads of mistakes this season that's probably in one of the worst teams in the league sitting in 16th. So, it's there's not really a comparison here. >> I don't know. I wouldn't say he's not made loads of mistakes. He had a bit of an iffy game against um against Brenford first game of the season, Kinsky, but I think most players on the pitch that day did. >> Could have done a little bit better with Nicholas Jackson's goal against Aston Villa, but outside of that, I think he's been okay. again last season he had a very very good end to the season kept us up and when you think about what he came back from after the debacle against Atletico Madrid and how he responded from that with his feet he's absolutely excellent I think in terms of his shots stopping there's still a little bit to be improved and also we haven't really seen Penders yet and we've been through this with Chelsea goalkeepers before as they've kind of looked to replace Corttois they've kind of gone through this cycle so I don't think Chelsea's backup goalkeeper that hasn't played in the Premier League yet can get in over the guy that actually kept Spurs up last season >> okay Jules you have the final say >> I Uh I think Panda's ceiling is super high. I won't lie. And he's a league legend. Kinsky I can't take seriously since Atletico Madrid. I won't lie. Like >> Yeah. But he kept >> even me I wake up in the night thinking about him against Atletico Madrid. >> Yeah. But the way he responded from that though was top. You cover how he's come back from that from that. >> Sure. Absolutely. I still think that right now if I'm a sporting director of a Premier League club and I have to choose between them two to sign for my club, I'll go with Pend. >> Okay. Jules has the final say as the neutral pend as it is. Um, should we do do the back three? >> Yeah, let's do the center backs. First center back on the board. Right back you agree with. >> Yeah, >> Ben, no Spurs boy in here. >> I really like Josh Shenong. >> Yeah, >> I think he's top. I think that if you're thinking about Chelsea's formation, >> would you want Van Hecker, who I love, by the way, I think he's I think despite the fact he's had a bit of an iffy start at times defensively, he's unbelievable on the ball, which is really important to our system. But as a right-sided center back in terms of covering the channel, covering the ground, I'm not sure I'd want Van Hecker there. If we're thinking about this specific system, whereas I think a Chen Pong, those long legs, driving forward, recovery pace, there's a lot to like about this kid. So, I'm surprised you're not backing your own boy though as a >> Yeah, but I think for the look for this formation, if we're going back four, I probably would go for Van Hecker. I think I think that the conversation around Van Heck's been a little bit overblown personally. He's made some mistakes. I don't think it's helped that Vic has got off to a flyer at Brighton. um which isn't helping the narrative but I think for this formation and this team I think ampong would make more sense than Vaneka even though I like Vanera as a center. >> It's the same principle I think as Penders is like if you as a sporting director and you're building your team who are you going to go with and I think >> for me a Pong has been our best center back this season. Okay. >> We've had a lot of other guys make errors and and and make mistakes. This guy's been incredibly solid and reliable and and he's so young as well. He's only 20 and he's played in so many different positions. He's played right back. He's played in the back three. He's played even central midfield in the Conference League. so good on the ball, drives with it, carries with it, and if you're, you know, looking at top talents in this position, a lot of big clubs were chasing him and Chelsea needed to start giving them minutes. So, >> okay, total agreement then sticking down. >> Uh, central center back. >> Bit of a tap in this one maybe for Max. >> Yeah, >> I think I think yeah, Laqua for me just makes the most sense. He obviously did it for Palace um under Glasnar as well. He's come to Chelsea. I think he's even had a couple of moments where he could be better. Um, and and his positioning has been a bit off at times and people have run around the the side of him and he's been caught blindsided. But I think there's a certain presence when I look at that Everton performance away from OM talking about the physicality of that game going to a team that are, you know, Barry and and players that going to put, you know, they're going to put the ball in the box. You've got someone like Laqua who's taken the physical >> kind of foundation of our team and risen it quite substantially and I think he's a big part of why we're going to look a lot more solid over the next few weeks. I think he's going to settle in agree with that. >> There's a disagreement coming up in the left side center. >> Surely we've got Mickey Vander in this team. >> Absolutely. >> Yeah, >> I think so. Again, if you're thinking about the way that Chelsea play, I like Levi Cole. He's a very good defender. Again, he's very good on the ball, but I think I prefer him in a back four compared to a back five. Mickey Van as a left side back in a back three, I think, is a bit of a cheat code with his recovery pace, ability to defend the channels, step out and drive forward as well, like what you were saying with the Chenong. I think that's a really nice balanced back three. And I still think that Vanven's obviously had his injury problems. So is Levi Cowill as well. But I think Van despite, you know, some iffy games here and there last season, I think he like when we were actually in the midst of that relegation battle when Deserby came in towards the end, I think he really did step up again to the level that we expect. Um so I think Mickey Vanza tapping in this position. Even though look, I like Cowwell, but for this role, I think it's Van. >> Matis, you got an old Chelsea back. Yeah, I think I think for me cow I think maybe people have forgotten what he how good he can become in terms of the level of defender that he can be due to the injury last season. I think he's incredible on the ball. Obviously Vanderven is a different type of defender in terms of the carry and he's more of a passer breaking lines showed it at Brighton. Um he was really starting to come of age at Chelsea in the back end of the Moresco season where we finished in the top four and obviously started to take a leadership role then misses the whole season in injury. I think again he's been improving in the last few games as well. I think his start of the season was obviously very shaky but I think as the season's kind of progressed the last few games has come back we've looked looked a lot tighter a lot more compact and he's been a big improvement I think airy as well I'd probably want to go coal over vandervent personally for me I just feel like I me as a as a some my defenders they need to be good in the air and and I'm not saying co's perfect I want him to score more goals from set pieces I want him to be more commanding more demanding but yeah I just I can't do center backs are not you know strong in the air for me Jules where do you stand on this debate >> I think co will since the injury needs a bit more time to get back to his base. I think technically he's probably better than Mickey >> right now. I think I take Von Dean. Although his positioning still bugs me and I'm not a Spurs fan, but I see Van playing at times I'm like, what are you doing? You know, he still needs a lot more awareness on the game around him, but I think right now I would pick Van. >> Okay, on the board, >> on the board. >> There we go. So, it's a back three. Van, Laqua, Ain Pong. We now go to the wing back areas. So, right wing back. the right wing back. >> Pedro Netto versus Pedro Porro. >> I think it's got to be Porro. >> I don't know if it does. I think I think Netto this season, you know, he's he's been chipping in with goals. His defensive work is so diligent. He gets back into position brilliantly. Doubles up with with his fullback, cuts out all of the all of the nonsense. And I think this this position is perfect for him. I remember over the summer looking at the manager that was coming in and thinking, "Yeah, I've not been a massive fan of Netto as a winger out and out over the last few years in terms of his decision- making, his final kind of product." But at wing back, it's the perfect position for him because he's so he's so positionally intelligent to get back. He he's obviously a great runner as well off the ball. He's got the pace to kind of overlap on on on the the Palmer position. And I just feel like for me, Porro defensively, I'd actually not trust him either. I think defensively he's quite weak. He's very susceptible to to >> Who's the better defender out of these two though? >> I I think it's Porro. The fact that I think the fact I do think the Porro sort of not being able to defend is a little bit lazy in my opinion. I and not just from you Matis, but I think that's generally been a stereotype that's kind of followed him around. Obviously, he came into Spurs as a wing back under Antonio Conte. I actually think he is better as an out andout fullback where he can affect the game going forward from deeper areas rather than bombing up and down. I think obviously he's not an amazing 1v one defender but all fullbacks in the modern age have their strengths and weaknesses and going forward he's quality and I think that I really like his mentality. Last season again in the relegation battle is someone that massively stepped up for us is a World Cup winner with France and was one of their best players going in the team of the tournament. >> So he was in the team of the tournament right back just to point that out. >> Yeah. >> Where was Pedro? >> Well this is wing back on the bench. >> But I mean no he is an actual wing back. I think that the narrative of him not being a good going forward is just defensively is just because he's good. >> I'm not saying he's awful defensively, but I don't think he's he's not great defensively, which I think makes this a closer argument than it would have been if he if he was obviously better. I think Netto defensively has been very very diligent this season. >> Okay, Jules, do you want to step in here? >> Yeah, I think Pedro probably is the more natural of right wing backs to be fair. Sporting him was outstanding. That's where Spurs signed him and I think Spurs by playing not a back five for most of his time as Spurs didn't really help him because I think he would be much better in the back five. So yeah, >> they created the most chances of any Premier League defender last season. Incidentally, team of the tournament in the World Cup. >> Pieces as well by pieces. Chips with goals. Porro takes it. Um, left back >> left wing back. >> No, I don't I don't >> I don't think so. I know he's got assist this season. He's got two and he's been he's been driving with the ball, carrying it at left wing back. But for me, I still see him as a left side back in the three. I think he's played there because maybe Pep Shave has obviously been he's now injured for the for the upcoming game. he's been, you know, kind of getting to grips with the Premier League. He's obviously new to the league. Um, Pstra's been out injured as well. I just feel like a dog at left wing back would be a very, very good player like if he was to play in that system. >> You doggy as well, but are you concerned with the sort of injury situation with doggy because he plays then he doesn't play. We've seen Robertson play it. Ben Davis even came on for minutes. We've seen Vanderven play at left back. This left back of people that outside of Tottenham talk about the plethora of left backs Tottenham have, but we haven't actually had a regular left back for many games. No, it's been a problem with a doggy for a while. Like when you when he is fit, you see his importance to us and when he's not available, you see the massive drop off. Look, I like Andy Robertson as a pro. I think he can bring that to the squad. And as a backup left back that can kind of fill in here and there in the summer, you're thinking that's okay. But when you're asking him to play the bulk of the games because the doggy's not available, that becomes a problem with Robertson's age. And a doggy is so important to us. Driving up the pitch, I think that any winger for Spurs that plays with a doggy gets better. I think you saw him and Savio's relationship at Old Trafford, the way they were kind of moving in and outside of each other. A doggy can invert, he can go on the overlap. Still leaves a little bit desired to be desired in the final third with his crossing at times, but defensively he's really strong. Seen him lock up a lot of wingers. It's just that availability. He's so important and I think this is a position that probably Spurs do need to readress going forward to get a proper backup that can actually do what he can do and really compete with him. I mean, he's top class when he's on it, but it's just not enough. >> This is the last magnet I can reach. you might have to >> into the midfield. >> Incidentally, what I would say as well when those two play together, the balance of Spurs's whole back line is so important is so much >> more balanced. >> Uh 3-3 split at the minute >> into the midfield. >> Yeah, for this it's a non-negotiable, you know, this is has to be he's just the difference he's made to our team since he's come back. One goal conceded in two games, running the midfield, build up, everything, passing. >> He's so key, is he? It's interesting you say that. You really noticed when he doesn't play. We even noticed in preseason to be honest in preseason when he didn't play we were leaking goals against anyone. So yeah even the counter press he's led to the free kick that Henderson scored as well. So it's even the little things that people don't notice. He >> has to be in stick him up. Most interceptions, tackles and possession one for Chelse in the Premier League last season. Joint most interceptions in the whole Premier League last season as well. >> Will Matis pick Jordan Henderson in this role? We are interested. >> Oh are you going to bottle it? >> B he's bottled Hendo. I I like I like Fernandez and he's not even he's not even playing regularly for Tottenham. That's the one he's going on there. He's not gonna You don't think he's good enough? >> I don't think he's good enough right now. >> Matte Fernandez. >> I think there's Let's Let's hear from Jules in what elaborate on that. You don't think he's good enough right now? >> I don't think he's ready for what the Zerby wants a midfielder to do. And I think the Zerby yesterday was very good in his press conference. I think he's a really good guy, but he needs to understand >> the club that he's at, the team that he's playing for. I think the manager that he's playing for in a system that he's playing for and right now he just hasn't been good enough and that's why he's not playing. And I think with the Zerby as well, it doesn't matter if you if we signed you for 80 million, 100 million, if you don't do the basics of what the Zerby wants you to do, there's no room for you there. >> Yeah, it has been a bit of a strange one. I think he had a bit of time off over the last week because I think his partner's just given birth, which is why I don't think he started the game against commentary, but you saw Archie Gray come in there and play really well. So, there's good competition for places in that at the moment. And when we signed both these two players, I was more excited about Fernandez because I think he ticked more of the boxes of what Spurs haven't really had over the last few years in terms of that progressor from deep really good in terms of those lineb breaking passes, which is not necessarily something that Tanali offers. I thought the Fernandez signing was going to make the Tanali one infinitely better. But based on right now what we've seen so far this season, because we haven't really seen enough of Fernandez and when he has played his play out of position out of position, I would go Tali. And I think over the last few games, he has really started to step up. against Man United. I thought he was the best player on the pitch in terms of that ground coverage. I think showing Man United exactly probably why they should have over spent on him and you know someone that can cover the ground and do all all the bits. Again, I think he was Spurs's best player on Monday against Coventry as well. And I think with the 100 million pound price tag, it's always going to be very difficult to live up to that. So the level of scrutiny is going to be a lot higher than if he was signed for 60 70 million. So everyone's going to be on his performances when actually they've been pretty solid. He does lack in some areas maybe on the ball in terms of his progression which is why Fernandez compliments him really well when they do when these two hopefully do start playing together but I think tonight's been pure class in the last couple years. >> One thing I would say as well as the Spurs it's the area that we you never know who's going to play because there's so much competition for places. We've had Bergba we've had Archie Gray Benson but he's the one that I always expect to be in because we know that um the Zerby thinks so highly of him and I think >> probably now you would would you edge for this debate? But don't be surprised if Fernandez plays a lot of game time. Be surprised if he's not a key player for you. >> I think he's gonna have a big season for top this season, but Jules has spoken. So, >> I think these two will actually start together probably for the first time today. I think >> I agree. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Into the front three. This is where it gets difficult. You bet. I think >> I might as well go home. >> You got
