Um, Anthony Gordon has been playing so well since the knockout stages in in the World Cup. He feels like the fans are really starting to appreciate him. They're singing his name pretty much every game. Is he become one of the first names on the team sheet for you now? >> Well, he's getting there. He's defending his shirt. He's defending his position. And he had an excellent performance uh again. He had a very good performance against Spain. Uh was very decisive uh today. had an excellent goal um which was very very difficult but the technique in in finishing was excellent um scored against Spain so he has this decisive actions he's full of confidence and yeah he's defending his shirt he's defending his position and uh yeah does it on a on the highest level at the moment very important player >> hi Thomas um how did you evaluate Trent Alexander Arnold's performance tonight and did he perhaps show what he can offer your team with his assist for the first goal. >> We never doubted that he can he can produce these kind of assists. I think the second half the position a bit a deeper position suited him more than the higher position in the first half. Overall, I think we had a we had a good and professional performance. Uh overall um of course the the red card like always an early red card is such an heavy influence in the game. um makes the task sometimes a little bit more complicated psychologically because we already were the favorites and and then you are suddenly the heavy favorites. So you need to keep focused and and um Trent was a big help in this because he's very very secure on the ball and can be decisive with his crosses. So he did this solid in defending and one decisive action that helped us score. So good performance overall but um in in general it is difficult to analyze the match because it was 17 minutes or so like in one man plus >> and just need to ask again about the Manchester City situation because it was another development. >> Sorry Kit um that's a legal matter I'm not going to comment on today at all. So no point asking further questions on that. Pass it back to Mike first and then we'll go James. Um Thomas, with the defense, you know, obviously really positive that he got a clean sheet. >> Um were were you um kind of happy with the way they were functioning in that first half? They were still possibly giving the ball away sometimes, but overall what was >> Yeah, it was again like I think two three ball losses um in in um even high ball losses. I think one from Bukayo, can remember, one from Bukayo, one from Harry in the middle of the pitch. um is never easy because we changed three positions in a back four but I think they did excellent especially Mark I think had an excellent game and a fantastic reaction after Marquee after after difficult match and a very demanding match with the um against against Spain had a fantastic reaction. Trevor played very very solid and and both fullbacks did well. Um yeah it is it is good that we have the clean sheet. It was necessary, of course, especially after the red card, to keep this clean sheet and to not get nervous, not panic, but um yeah, play a little bit play with more urgency, play with more um um more dynamic, especially in the wide areas in in the second half. And we did this, kept the effort up and and that's how we kept the clean sheet. >> Is is Nikico O'Reilly is he is he fit enough to to play for the rest of the rest of the camp? Uh I cannot say yes, cannot say no. I don't know is the honest answer. He was not available today, was not on the bench. So we have three days now. We will try everyone and try everything and push everyone to be available. We used already every outfield player and it's only the second match. So yeah, we need everyone and of course it's an important match that's coming up. Every match from now on is important and and of course against a direct competitor right now um is important. And so hopefully Nico and S3 can come back but for today they were not available. >> James the game as captain which he did also on Saturday I think. >> Yeah. >> Is that kind of a bit of a reward for him for the the buy in the commitment he >> I think he was even the captain against Costa Rica before the World Cup. Yeah >> it is. It is always a reward and always an honor. Yeah it is. I mean, his attitude's obviously been scrutinized a bit in the past, but do you think one day he's getting to a point where he could be a permanent England captain? >> If you are the captain in the end of these matches, you can for sure be the permanent the permanent captain. >> Does that say a lot about his character, his growth, how he's kind of embracing England in general. >> Yeah, I think he loves uh to be with us at the moment. That's what I feel. And um we had this small talk to today about his role and then we both had uh we had a if our hearts or our stomachs said like let let's go again let's start again and both our heads maybe 30 minutes is is enough for today because he hasn't played I think in this [snorts] quick turnaround through this season. He has done it before but not in the season. So we didn't want to be the first ones to try that. Um um yeah, but like even in this little encounter, you can see that he's confident and and happy to even help from the bench. So yeah, it is a reward. It's good. Hopefully he had a little niggle in the end of the match, so hopefully it's nothing serious and he's available for for Croatia. >> Hi Thomas, Lewis Hall hasn't played too much under you. Just what you made of his performance tonight? >> Very good on the left side together with his old teammate Anthony Gordon. You could see that they played together and the style was a little bit similar like in Newcastle. We let them go, we let them free, we let them underlap and overlap and and and play as a pair on the side. So, it's what he loves. I think this is his strengths um to to contribute to the offensive actions. I think he had a uh a very good match. >> Thanks, Thomas. Is is that this the kind of night um kind of slightly unglamorous international game, but it's a type of game where you really you understand what it is to be an England manager because you you've got no excuse. You just have to win the game. What however it plays out. >> Do I ever do I ever have an excuse with you guys as an England manager? Never. You never have an excuse for what? So, um I love sometimes these unglamorous results. Um, sometimes you need just leave the stadium, win 2-0, have a relaxed evening and and go on to the next one. You cannot be always glamorous. You cannot be always like a Yeah. glamorous and and super exciting. You have to sometimes uh do the hard work with a not a lot of uh not a lot of praise because we were the favorites and we wanted to win. We demanded the win from us. Then you go up with one man of course. than everyone expects. uh we ourselves uh you're suddenly the heavy favorites and that's why we didn't panic but we needed to play with a bit more urgency and like I said dynamic movements on the side counter [snorts] pressing was on a high level so we kept the effort in the man approach in the opponent's half was was was there until maybe the last 10 minutes where we got a little bit tired and a little bit sloppy but but overall I think that's what it that's what uh what also builds character and shows character if you if you go to to to check here, play in away stadium, they have never lost back-to-back matches at home and you just do it and um yeah, do it with a clean sheet and it's good. >> You mentioned that you've used all the players now which which I hadn't realized. Um >> yeah, me neither. Me neither. >> Is it um proving to be an even more challenging set of fixtures before than you even suggested it would be last week? >> Before? >> Well, last week you said it was going to be. You didn't. Last week you said you weren't keen on the the extended break. >> Two games into it, is it proving even more challenging than you thought? >> Yeah, it is because it's also new for the players. Some players like they they feel something and and and and in a normal window if you're not available like now Nico Riley would just go back to the club, get your treatment and and be available as fast as possible. But like now we have we have three matches to play. So so he stays with us. Everything is new. He stays with us. even if he was injured, not available today because we have two more matches and of course we want to we want to take every possibility and every chance that he's available for one of these two matches minimum or maybe both of them. Everything is new. Everything is is is different. Um but we needed that win like you like you said to to keep our to to to build on our momentum and to build on the the performance that we had against Spain. So now we got a result. Uh we decided not to travel back to London um or to to to England but um sleep here and travel directly to Croatia um and and have two training sessions there. Yeah, feels like a little mini tournament honestly. But we all do it for the first time and we we want to make the most of it. >> Uh I thought first half was a little bit slow with the tempo. Uh we kind of got sucked into the atmosphere and sucked into their tempo. So we said at halfime to move it quicker. uh be sharper with the ball. We got off then to the perfect start and uh from there yeah we never really looked in danger. Um would have been nice to be a bit more clinical I think in the final third but uh in the end it's 2-0 a good clean sheet and and three points. >> Even when you don't get as much ball as you like you still score. I think that's 87 now for your country Harry. Does the hunger ever dwindle? >> No. Um still the best feeling there is and um it was nice to get it just before coming off. I know that. Otherwise, I'd have been itching to still be out there. But, um, yeah, from my point of view, you know, I've said there some games I'll touch the ball a lot and be the difference in maybe build up or pass passing or switching play. Uh, today because we had so much space, it was down maybe to the number 10s, the fullbacks, uh, the midfielders to, you know, create more of the the opportunities. I was just there in the box trying to wait for one to to drop my way and thankfully it did. >> Talk to me about Anthony Gordon. Three goals in three games for him now. It really felt from my perspective as though he grew into a really important player for the singing side during the World Cup and he's taken that on to new levels, hasn't he? >> I think so. I think the move to Barcelona has helped him as well. I think sometimes going to to a big club like that gives you more self-belief, more confidence. Uh you feel like you belong on on the biggest stage and I think he's taken that into his England performances. He was outstanding against Spain on Saturday. Again, today he was the difference made for he was always looking to be direct and uh and be the one to to get us ahead and a great finish from him as well. Well, you know, a lovely ball by Trent, but then them finishes ain't easy and he took it really well. So, um yeah, an important player for us uh right now. You know, it's another game in in a few days, so it's just for him to recover and get ready for another one. >> Quick word about Trent. You mentioned him there. There's been a clamor from some quarters, a lot of quarters for him to be involved in this England setup. He showed again with that ball for for Gordon's goal, didn't he? Just what he can do. >> Yeah, Trent's outstanding. Um you know, the delivery, the the passing range, the the crossing. Uh but also today defensively, he was outstanding. And um yeah, from from our point of view, you know, he's a fantastic player. Trent just has to keep his head down, keep working hard. He's been uh he's been great in camp so far. The way he's trained, the way he's pushed himself and pushed others around him. So, um yeah, look, I think he's, you know, showing to the boss that he he wants to be here. He wants to be in this team and, uh he done a fantastic performance today and um yeah, let's see what happens in the next couple games. >> How are you edging closer to that 100 goal club as you get closer to it? Are you are you thinking about it and and I I bet you can't en envision what that might feel like. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those, you know, I don't like to think too too far ahead, but of course it's getting closer and, you know, 100 goals for the national team would be something special. Uh without a doubt. Um it still feels like yesterday I just broke the record and I was away in Italy getting getting that one. And um you know, the season come and and they they go quick. So, uh, yeah, I just enjoy, as you know, being out there with the boys on the pitch, uh, wearing the the free lines and, um, and that won't change. So, you know, the striker's job is to to score goals first and foremost. I know that. And, you know, I love doing that. >> And your your performance today as a team probably made and at times wasn't wasn't as fluid as it was on the on the Saturday, but you you got the result. Can you sort of explain that? Yeah, I think sometimes, you know, when you play better opposition and you play teams who are more open and try and press and uh it makes the game more exciting and um yeah, you actually sometimes play better against those teams because you have more space. You have to play quicker. There's no uh there's no doubts in your head when you play like tonight when they especially when they went down to 10, you're playing against a low block. You have to be patient. Um the final product has to be perfect and I don't think it was quite today. I still think we can improve in in that sense with the final cross or the final through ball. But um in the end, a win's a win. You know, I've been a I've been around long enough in the England team where um sometimes you just have to to win the game and and move on. And tonight was was one of those. You know, it's not going to be in everyone's memory for a long time. But I'm sure people like Alex and and Rio, obviously Rio's second cap, but Alex's first cap, you know, this is his moment and this is the the moment he'll never forget and you can never forget that. And Harry, obviously I have to ask you in your position as as England captain, Premier League today, you've ruled that Manchester City have been in breach of majority of the charges. Can I get a reaction, please? >> Yeah, to be honest, I just literally found out now. I didn't know it'd been official until after the after the game. So, um yeah, it's not for for me to comment on right now. I need to obviously understand more of the information, but I understand it's a a big topic right now and you can't shy away from it. But, uh as I always say when I'm when I'm with England, when we are with England, it's about England. Um, and that's what we're focused on. It's pretty sure on Saturday now, >> Alex, huge congratulations. You're a full senior England international. How does that sound? >> A dream come true. Um, yeah, it's a special feeling, I think, to finally put on put on the kit for the seniors. Um, something I've obviously worked a lot to um, for the past few years. I've said said there, it probably wasn't even a dream to me when I was young because it was so unrealistic and, you know, out of this world, but yeah, to finally do it, it's a special feeling. You were called up I think almost a year ago November wasn't it 2025 you didn't get to make your debut and I think Thomas Douglas said after that he regretted that a bit he'd like to have given you the chance then he calls you up for the preparation council before the World Cup you still go and get on the pitch so you've had to be incredibly patient for this but what does that say about how much you want to play for your country >> yeah it's everything I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to play for their country I think you know last November was a great opportunity to to come in learn a lot of these players um I've said before I think maybe I wasn't ready to to play at that that moment in time in myself confidence-wise, feeling wise. I felt like it was a step up. Um, summer was brilliant. I again learned a lot of the players that that were in this group and the staff and how the team wants to play and yeah, obviously this time around I felt way more comfortable. I felt well more settled into the group. Um, and yeah, it was a great opportunity to to come on and yeah, hopefully I I'd done well. Um, I just wanted to be brave going and do what I normally do and do what I do for Bournemouth. So, yeah, it was a great experience and yeah, hopefully I can build on it and get a few more. What goes through your mind when Thomas Dougl looks over to you or Anthony Bar looks over to you and says you're coming on? >> I was pretty calm to be fair. Um like I said, I've been around this group for a few camps now and I've sort of been waiting and so eager to get on the pitch. So I knew at some point it was it was going to come. Um so yeah, I was pretty relaxed and and very excited obviously. Uh Spain game I was warming up quite a lot and hoping to get on and that it didn't quite happen. So I think today was the the perfect opportunity and yeah, I really enjoyed every second of it. >> You looked very comfortable out there. I mean, I saw your eyes light up when you you tracked the ball 15 or 20 yards and struck a really good one that only went just over the top, but what's the target for you now? Is it to get your first England start and then try and make yourself a regular in this? Of course. Yeah, keep building. Um, obviously we've got amazing players who have done so well over over a few years now obviously in the tournament in the World Cup. So, yeah, important for me to to try and establish myself in in the group in the team and push the lads there in the starting 11. They've been they've been brilliant. So, it's up to us boys who aren't starting to to push them for their shirts and and yeah, give them give them as much competition as possible. >> Show us that cap. >> And Alex, how so you got the cap in the in the in the dressing room? How did that all come about? Who who >> I've seen a few before. Obviously, when you make your debut real to do it in the summer, um yeah, Mark said some nice words beforehand and and handed me the cap. So, yeah, nice. Really nice from him. And then yes, it's the daunting part where I've got to say a few words in front of the group, which yeah, I was pretty nervous about,
