On behalf of Dar McCanny, the ownership group, the board, and the entire football club, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Robbie Savage as manager on a long-term contract. Um, we went through a very thorough process and we all felt unanimously that that Robbie was the standout candidate in terms of his ethos and the way that he likes to play football. Um, People United have become known over the years as a very attack-minded football club and in certain ways we've lost our way a little bit recently. We are extremely confident that under Robbie those days will return. Um, the appointment itself may come as a bit of a left field to some people, but um, I reiterate the board was unanimous in its decision. It it was a decision that took literally seconds once we finished the final interview. So, um, I will hand over to Barry. Barry undoubtly has some things to say. Um, we appreciate it's live, Barry. So, remember that. And, um, [laughter] and then, as I say, Robbie will say a few words and then we'll open the floor. Thank you very much. All I can say to all you Push fans, you lucky people to have Danty at the head of this football club and Robbie Savage. Wow. There'll never be a dull moment. Over to you, Ger. [laughter] Um yeah, thank you all. Listen, um D has been instrumental and Ian and Barry and Dawn and Greg and um Gary and everybody involved in the process. Um you know, I've left a amazing football club with great people in Dale Vince and ASF and and Mark Boy and all the staff and my players. Um and without them, I wouldn't be have this opportunity. Um, and when I sat in the interview process and met brilliant people, um, it was a no-brainer for me because my eth thoughts and my philosophy is I want to work with good people first. Um, um, give them everything that I have and you know this man next to me with all his experience and I look up to him. I'll lean on him. Um, his knowledge is incredible. Um, and for me the biggest thing was like I had before his screen was was an alignment with everybody. Um, and we've got that here as I had with Dale. And I just want to thank Dale personally as well for the um for making it happen for me. Um, a a man of his word. Um, we had emotional times, but Dar has been amazing as well. So, it's been a great move for me. I know that people will think why, but I believe I'm I'm the manager to get this team back to what it is, what it should be, attacking the philosophy of youngsters, which I love. Um and and when I was at Mosfield and Forest Green, I've studied this football club for a number of years because the ethos I built is on Peter United, young players, dynamic players, attacking football, you know, having assets we can sell, which we did at Michaelsfield and Forest Green. Um so it it's for me and Dra, people have said spiky characters. Um they said the same about me and Dale, but you know um we get on ever so well and I will with Dra and I'm just delighted to be here. Okay. Okay. Any questions? Uh, >> brother, you've um touched on my first question. You read, have you been reading social media since you were linked? >> I've been reading your tweets out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're a huge fan. >> One of your one day hopefully, but I mean, how do you how do you how do you feel when you read I mean, not from me necessarily, but a lot of fans have reacted negatively towards. So having worked in the media and having criticism all all my life Allan um you can spin the narrative whichever way you want um you know when I've left forest screen I would say average fan base of 1500 I would say 1400 or 50 have been really positive really grateful of my time there um but I haven't seen any of the old squads being mentioned um anybody can pick out the negativity which it will be from social media and I think that you've done that quite a lot um but it's it's a narrative which I've got try and change. Um, you know, everybody's got an opinion. Everybody's entitled to opinion. Um, I've come outside the stadium. There's a couple of Peterbr fans there who have wished me luck. And all I want is a chance. I want a chance to listen. I've got to turn your thoughts around, which I'm prepared to do. I've done all my life. When I was released by Man United, I was told I wasn't good enough. Um, when I moved to Leicester, I wasn't in the team. Um, and I've had to battle through. Um, nobody's given me anything in this world. Um, I've earned it. I've worked hard at it. Um, so I'm sure that everybody's entitled to their opinion, but judge me um, you know, when we start playing football cuz that's what I love. I'm passionate. I'm emotional. I just want to see this young team give me everything. Give the fans everything. Play that explosive style of football. Look at I can go into every single play if you want me to. They're good. What they're good at, what they're not so good at, what they can learn. I've studied the squad inside out. Just give the ball to Balu. That's all you got to do. >> Yeah, maybe. >> No, you give the ball to Balu. How good's he by the way? Harry Leonard. Wow. How lucky am I to managing Harry Leonard? >> Yeah. The midfield players. Yeah. >> You're confident you can do what the previous manager hasn't been able to do this season. >> Well, I'm not going to criticize Luke in any game. >> Yeah, I understand that. Listen, Luke um you know has has been a brilliant manager. Um and I'm sure he'll go on to you know things also from here. Um but I'm not going to compare myself to any other manager. I'm me. Um you know Henry who's behind you knows me. um more than most in the media. Um he knows the style of football I play. Um goals is what I'm about. You know, I'm a manager that if we won one at home with five minutes to go, um let's go and win the game. And if we concede one, I'll take that on the chin for my team. Um cuz at that point, you've only lost a point. You're not losing three cuz you won one at a time. So my philosophy is go and win 5-4. That's what I'm about. Hopefully like we can bring that. The team shouldn't be where they are. The squad's brilliant. Um the squad's brilliant. What a recruitment process. Um, everybody's done. I look at every single player in the squad, one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Um, no question about it. The midfield area is, you know, brilliant. Um, you know, Harry Ashfield, um, I had him playing for me under 15 level. Um, a club, know his father. Ben Woods, my son grew up with Man United. So, I can go through all the team. Um, but this club needs to get back to its DNA. Um, which is attacking football, you know, go and score goals, go and create, go and be brave, go and be positive. And these youngsters will make mistakes and I'll make mistakes and I will continue to do that. But we're going to make mistakes together, but we're going to be confident. We're going to, you know, lift this place. I'll go with the fans. You know, I've got I've got to win some over. I get that. I'll I got no problem with it. But just judge me on me and our team and our what we do. >> Just just one last one for me. I mean, I can see why D was impressed by you with your five for stuff and all that. I mean, he has a 9 month managerial longevity average record of the 14 managers he's picked. If you take Darren Ferguson out of it, not a concern for you. >> No, be great in 9 months if it is. [laughter] >> Thank you. >> Yeah, be great in 9 months. My goals, whatever happens. Listen, I've never been scared of anything in my life. You know what? I'm healthy. I've got a beautiful family. My son's playing for Edin. My other son's doing great at uni. You know what's the worst that can happen? Thank you. But Robbie, with all that, what what still drives you? You've got the media. You got lovely family as you say. You had a good playing career. >> What drives me is is you know me more than most hates. You know, we done a show back in the World Cup years ago. And I've always asked you for advice. You know me. you know me more than most. What drives me is is getting the best out of people, working with great people, you know, giving everything back to, you know, to to young players. Um, and I what enticed me here was was when I heard Dar speak so passionately about his football club. Um, just made me think, right, and I couldn't have done it without Dale Vince, who's been amazing. I've got to say that, and everybody at Forest Green. Um, but just that buzz, that energy, that being involved in football. I'm very lucky. I've been involved in football all my life. How lucky am I? And I know how hard it is to get a manager share any level. And I've done it the hard way. You know, a lot of people in my position to captain four Premier League sites, you know, led dressing rooms, um, all different characters, emotions. I was the leader of four Premier League dress rooms and let's not forget that. But I took the decision to start in step five. A lot of managers, a lot of players who've played Premier League for 11 years, 346 games would have maybe thought, right, that's not for me. I want to start higher if I did it the hard way. I've earing the right. Um, and whatever happened, I'm a league manager now, a fantastic football club with passionate people with great people who care. Um, and that drives me to prove people wrong. >> You bring the photograph that nice. You are. Yeah, I was released. I wasn't good enough. You know, um the reason why Peter Bro pointed me is because I've been good enough. You know what success? People might say, "Well, Forest Green were third." And this is one of the questions I had in the interview. And let's be totally honest. Um Forest Green were third, but I went there. They were seventh. Lost in the playoffs. Now they're 12th. When I left, um is that, you know, is that positivity? Is that moving forward? Well, yeah. I was asked at for a screen to create a style of football which the owner would be entertained. That was the remit. Young players, dynamic players, um bringing the average age of the squad down from about 28 to about 23. Um reducing the wage bill. That's what it did. So that was the remit. So that's huge success and the manager going to forest free now will have a great platform, a great platform that we because always we built together myself, Dale, Mark and ASF. Um, so it was a huge success. As I say, you can pull tweets off people who didn't like me, who don't want me there. I get it. You know, you can use any narrative you want. Hardest thing in this world is to be positive. I'm positive. Um, I always have been quite insecure, quite a nervous person, people who don't know me. But all I'm going to do is give my best cuz I'm so happy, so thrilled, and my wife's happy. Um, you know, we'll see more of each other. Um, you know, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, I don't know. Um, but you know, my my sons are happy, my mom's happy, you know. Um, and I wish my dad was here to see me because he'd be proud. >> Just one thing on the the media side, you carry on. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, obviously same my previous screen. If it gets in the way, um, I will stop. This is the first and foremost in my mind. Um but again if I can highlight um the positives of of this football club um which I will do. I'm sure Chris will be all over it as you know. Um um but again by doing the media I love football. I love it. But it's about my life is football. Um so doing that on a Sunday um getting the voice of the fans cuz the fans are the most important thing any football club. We all know that. Um and to hear them on a Sunday um with my opinion um going to work for um TNT watching football games. I go you I'm going to a game tomorrow um um Burton against um Huddersfield. If I get back in time I'm going to go and watch crew overs tonight. Even at step five I was going to watch with Shawtown and teams. I go out that's what I do. It's my life. So going to watch games of football working. I'm learning all the time. I'm seeing different formations. I'm seeing, you know, now I'm at Peterbr, you know, people who play in the conference league, you know, if they're young and dynamic and fit the profile, I can have a great insight into that as well. So, I can do recruitment when I'm working. Um, so yeah, it's no problem, but if it gets in the way, I'll stop it. >> You've got a good reputation with other managers. We'll be able to bring some loan players in, some kids in when it reopens. >> I think the philosophy of this football club is produce our own. Um, I would have worked with hugely closely with the academy. Um Dan Robinson I already chatted to what they've done throughout the years here um is incredible. You look at the front three Boyd um um Male Smith and Mlean. So Aaron spoke to me yesterday um so I know the history you know I know everything about the football club. As I say when I got into management I studied Peter Breen United because that's the model I wanted to go with. And if you see how my teams play regardless of budget, see the easiest thing to do is well you should have won that league with Macklesfield because you had the biggest budget. Well, doesn't always work. And when you're at Michaelsfield and everybody was to beat you a because of the facility cuz the biggest team in that league and people go into a low block, you got to find out how to score goals and we scored 109 goals. Broke every record, you know. And then Forest Green, look what we did last year. 23 wins, 22 the previous year. 81 points would have got you fourth I think the previous year. It was such a great league. One of the hardest leagues to get out of um you know so again the the group we've left are brilliant. The new managers got a great chance. Um and I hope that football club goes up. So do we. My ambition is um to start moving up the table playing a certain way the way people should play. um and then hopefully um finish my contract um as a as a championship manager. >> Thanks H. >> Hello. How are you? >> Good afternoon. Welcome to PE. Um have you met the players yet and what's your message been to them if you have spoken to them? >> No, I've not met them yet. Um we're training Sunday. Um um in my interview process um I've um told them about every single player um the whole squad you know not written down I'm not a laptop guy um my memory is good my knowledge is good I know the strength and weakness of every single player you can ask me out one I'll tell you um so my message to them will be let's not forget why we play football to enjoy it to have a smile on your face to be entertained yes there's pressure but the young group and it is a young group. Um they've got to believe in themselves but they've got a manager and the my staff and the team will have a manager who cares, who will give them everything, every single minute of every day on and off the pitch. I just want to treat my players like I would want my son Charlie to be treated. Um and I treat my staff how I would want to be treated. Um and that's what I do. I'm a I'm a I'm a personal guy who cares about people. Um and all I can do is give them my best. But the players, I think, will enjoy it. Training is good. It'll be fun. It'll be entertaining. It'll be tactical, analytical. Um, I'm not one for huge meetings, which I think the players will like. Um, you know, but one thing they can be rest assured is they'll have a manager who will try and improve them, develop them. You know, midfield players especially. um you know, we might be looking to bring in, you know, an ex player to help us in the forward area as as on the coaching staff. Um as well, cuz I want to keep the history of this football club cuz this football club has produced so many players over the years. I like to promote from within as well. Um because I want co young coaches to see they've got a pathway into first team. So I'm all about the club I'm at. Michaelfield if I give everything for his speed I've give everything and for this club um even at the last nine months as as Swanie says it'll be the best nine months they've ever had except for Darren Ferguson and Gr and all those and Steve Evans and so yeah let's not just relax on that one for the first time on Sunday. >> Yeah and I'll be a bit nervous of course I will. I'm a human being. Um but um it'll be great. Um I'm not going to please everybody. I've I've listened to Alex Ferguson recent recent interviews. You know, you've got to be ruthless. I've got I'm starting to get that ruthless side. Hates will tell you um what I'm like. Um I'm emotional. Um and you're not going to please everybody. You know, you can have 11 players who are happy when they started, seven who are okay, and the rest won't be happy. I get it. It's about managing every single player in that group. Thank you. problem. Um, when it comes to that free throw attacking style that Peters are known for, how easy is it going to be for you to to do that? Because you're making a couple of steps up to League One as a match. So, how easy is that for? >> Easy. Doesn't matter which it's the style of football. You know, you it's 11 v1 on the pitch. My subs, I'm decisive. I don't mind making subs at halfime. You know, I think this year in the in the National League, I think I made the most subs. Um, last year we had the most goal contributions from subs. I'm decisive. Make subs at halftime. You know, one thing I've been really good at is seeing what needs in a game. I'm brave. I'm decisive. You know, why change it 5 minutes into the second half? If you see something there's a problem. You know, I like to play dynamically. I like whoever's coming on is, you know, can you give me the same as that player did? Give me every 60 minutes if you start and I'll carry over my shoulders and the 30 minutes after that the same. You know, I want to play that ruthless, relentless nature. It's two leagues up. What's the difference? Why Why can't this team which is built for attack? Does it matter? It's two leagues up. You tell me why it matters. It's a game of football. MV11, 16 v6. If you use a sub, why is it why can't this team attack? You tell me. You watching more than me. What's your answer? >> I'm interested. >> Well, you are. You asked the question. No, you asked the question. Yeah. So yeah, this team can attack. It's built to attack. It's not built to pass the ball around the back. You know, I get bored watching that. I'm on the bench. I want to be entertained. I want to be a fan watching my team and say, "Do you know what? Go and attack." Yeah. And if you get beat attacking, so be it. So be it. It's my philosophy. And people have said to me, you're going to change cuz you're near the bottom or second bottom now. Why? Why? Why am I going to change? Why am I players go and play like you played in school that's what you have fun entertain you know and we have patterns of play of course we do I like to play 4231 but I can adapt I can go two up there all different ways to play two up somebody needs to get closer to Harry Leonard um you know can my fullbacks instead of coming inverted can they play high um I don't want to I don't want a fullback coming inside and playing as a six I don't want all that I don't want the left back coming and playing a three with one in front and Kelly I want my wingers to attack. You know where they come inverted, the fullbacks go high. Sunny gets close to Leonard. You know, one of my sixes need to become a 10 in build. So, I can do all that. We can talk attackers all day long. But why can't my team go and attack? Peter B is renowned for the history of the club and I'll follow my sword. We'll fall on our sword. It's a babe appointment. Yeah, we'll follow our sword. But one thing I'm not scared in my life is fear of failure. We're not going to fail. If I do, we've get our best shot. As Allan said, it could be nine months. >> Yeah. And you've given your message obviously to the Peterbr fans as well, but just for the club
