Oh yeah. Hello, we are One zero. Three zero. Come on. Four zero. 55. Good Come on. [cheering] Come on. >> [applause] >> 2 minutes. They'll Keep going. Seven. Four. Four. 11. out. Oh Straight up. Come out receiver. All right, Second time out. Come >> [cheering] >> on, baby. >> [cheering] >> Good boy. Oh my god. Hey, thank you. >> [cheering] >> Thank you. Are you hurry? Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. All right. 5. >> And we're back here at the fort in Fort Lauderdale for the World Pickle Ball Cup Championship. [music] >> [music] >> We got coming up team from India versus the team from Australia. [music] >> People have traveled all over the world to be at this incredible event here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on an absolutely epic day. Not a cloud in the sky, a cool breeze for Flidians in the low 70s and the athletes are absolutely loving it. I got the pleasure of being here today with Rob Cassidy, the great pickle ball player and coach and extraordinaire OG of pickle ball. >> Feel excited right here. >> The little koalas kangaroo koala. >> What's What's your name? Terry. We start off with female doubles followed by men's doubles followed by mixed mixed and then singles. It's a six game match. A little different than what people are used to here in the United States, but it's six team six games, one match. >> Rob, we watched the first one today. What perceptions or thoughts have you taken after watching our first match today where Mexico dominated? >> Wow. Yeah, Mexico definitely off to a much hotter start than South Africa. Hopefully South Africa can find their footing moving forward. But uh moving into this match with India and Australia, two countries that have established themselves as upcoming powerhouses of pickle ball. Really looking forward to this one. I know every single player on this Australia roster and they're all stars. >> And on that India roster, Brett, last year, India made a late deep run for the entire cup last year. So we got a good one for us. and they came close from Australia. Good luck, guys. >> Good luck. >> It's the Southern Hemisphere in this match here at the fort. India. India girls. >> Rashika Ravi and Zindor Metal for India. Two really good, very good young players. They were dominant last year and you can only expect they've gotten >> magnifyingly better since then. Expect some quality points here. The lob from Sarah Burr. Oh, retrieved. >> Not a good cover here for India. One went right and the other one should have gone left. >> That's good. Good chest from Sarah Burr really dictating there. And of course her partner Talia Saunders. You're going to see that bad mitten background. This one's up for the grabs, Grant. It's going to be a good match. >> Stadium's getting more and more full with each and every game, but there's still 40 games going on on the peripheral courts here at the fort. 43 courts in total, 14 undercover, and the world's first championship stadium court built just for pickle ball. >> Little nerves for India in the beginning. They just they just have to say anything to say that everybody Close game we have here. >> It's tied up at three. >> Talia Saunders to serve. She has an extensive bad mitten background. She brings a unique game to the game of pickle ball. It's fun to watch. It's very effective. expect to see some high vertical lobs here. >> Oh yeah. Yeah. She's been working that in their game more and more, building confidence with it. She has the shot. Just kind of discovering uh you know when to do it. Nice pick up rim. Australia's got the right and left-handed player. So the middle is pretty dominated by Australia so far. Oh yeah. >> Two more points and then we're going to break [cheering] >> for India. Ravi playing that left side. Such a great performance in the 2024 World Cup. >> Ball is out. On the gentleman's sides of thing, we have air in the back. >> Background for India. >> Another player we've seen burst onto the scene in India as well as Australia. >> Players, get ready for the other side. Come on back. Don't let the score go. >> [music] >> And we're back with the change of sides here. And Australia serving from south to north. >> [cheering] >> Nice short drop right on the east line. >> Now you can see that the wind might have had a little bit of play in that one. It is beginning to gust pretty good here. >> [cheering] >> Little impatient on that ball that was below the net. >> Just a little bit. >> Got to keep it clean in this rally scoring situation. >> They fight their way out of it. Back to neutral. >> Beautiful lob. Beautiful lob that nobody gets to [cheering] >> winner lob from Sarah Burr, the Australian lefty. >> And she wasn't set when she went for that drop shot. She was still moving. Always good to have your feet locked in position before you used to hit the ball. Australia [cheering] takes a pretty big lead out there. It's 11 to six. Australia seems to back up a little bit from the kitchen line when they hit the ball a little bit higher. >> And a timeout is taken. >> So, if you were the coach, what are you saying to the players? Yeah, I think both teams are battling and I I think they just need to double down on staying solid, keeping stuff clean and uh I mean Robbie's got really good pressure on her thirds and whatnot. She can swing away, but uh >> make them play. Make them hit another one, >> right? And I think again, eliminate the bad mistakes. Don't be moving when you're hitting the ball if you can. >> We saw such a beautiful lob before. Wonder if we'll see some more of that. >> I hope so. They're stuck in the transition zone and it cost them [cheering] Couple [cheering] in a row for India. >> [cheering] >> left it up just a little bit too high and Australia capitalizes. 129 takes her wide with the dink. Trigger pull. >> Now she went for it just a touch too long. You can also see the wind starting to pick up here. The trees are blowing and from our vantage point, it's blowing up our back going from west to east. >> The lob and switch sides for India. And Australia capitalizes on the players on opposite sides from where they're used to playing. >> Heavy hands from Talia Saunders. >> Australia back in the driver's seat. Sarah Ba serve. >> Classic drop. [cheering] >> Beautiful shot. Ball's going to hang on. Australia challenges it to the referees who calls the the shot good. >> Australia just one point away from the first game. 10 serving 14. She returns along and India saves another game point. And on an out ball, Australia takes the first match >> 15-11. >> Yeah, that was hard fought, Brad. That was a good back and forth. Just really came down to those tiny little makes and misses. Props to Sarah Burr and Talia Saunders for securing women's doubles. Men's doubles up next. >> It'll be exciting. Great job. >> Hey, the teams are getting ready to get on the court. The men are going to warm up for a second. >> I love the energy of both teams. And these are on fire, too. >> I know. I know. >> Yeah. You know, these Indian girls, they they they have more to offer. I think they're a little they're going to be it's not going to sit well with them. I felt like they they they felt that they should have won that match and uh they're going to have more to offer and you expect them to come back fired up in the mix. >> I clearly I think they're going to talk through how to handle the lobs while they're sitting there when they get into for mix coming up next or next game, >> but they're going to be ready for that. So, they're in the right position. >> Good luck brainstorming. You know, such a great shot. The more you treat it like a dink and less like a winner attempt. and uh >> told how great you can all how great you can mask it. Make it look like a dink and make it a lob. >> Yeah, doing the lob yourself. And that's actually you kind of circled around to the the perfect point there, Brett. Best lob defense is lob them first. >> And then if you're going to switch sides to cover it, if the right player is going to cover the left side and the left player's going to cover the right side, they need to know to back down a little bit and switch sides. I didn't bring my whiteboard, Brett. I That's a >> Oh, it's a little too John Madden for you. I get it. >> You got to water it down for for uh for us common folk over here, huh? >> Sometimes it's easier to run sideways than backwards. >> Fair enough. Fair enough. >> But uh at any angle, you you definitely want to be implementing your lob into your game at home on the competitive scene. >> Absolutely. And if you're, you know, beginning player, a three 035 four row gives you a little extra time to get back in position. >> Excited for this men's doubles, Brett. We got allaround good players. Two of the best male players from India. And I'd love to just highlight uh Aman that we have out here. Oh, wait a second. not leading with them. I love Oh, good gracious. We got the spotlight on some new boys here. Dev Sha and Siraj Desai. I'm excited to see these boys play. I haven't seen too much of it, but I I know they showed up prepared if India had any anything to do with it. >> Yeah, they wouldn't let them on the court unless they were on their aame. And of course for Australia we have >> the one and only Andy Horidge who uh personal brother of mine Brett if you don't mind me saying >> no what a small word he's teaming up with Josh Nippers. >> Josh Nipperis one of the most overlooked underrated players in Australia. I'm excited to see him shine this weekend. Uh the secret's out. Josh Nippers is good at pickle ball. Well, it's time to show the world and especially India his skills. >> Scorpion for the win. >> We're going to start seeing points in matches like this that you could see at any division, any league, >> reaching that elite pickle ball level here. The >> Australian boys came to play. >> They're not holding back with that power. >> I may or may not be wearing green and gold underneath uh this collared shirt here, Brett. Nice drop. Smart followup. [cheering] >> Oh, kink in the engine. They'll come back from that one. You can just see the concentration. >> Wind blew that one. >> Yeah, he makes that drop. They're getting neutral for sure. >> These India boys look uh very athletic. >> Little too strong there. What a drive. [cheering] >> Great toe recovery for Australia, but not enough. >> They got their Yola paddles, you can tell. [cheering] Little rushed on the execution. >> Moment can cause that every once in a while. >> Just a little too much. >> So now we've seen the ball flying both north and south. So it might not be the wind might be cross more than uh coming down the court. Good spot from Horic. >> Nippris just needs to reel it in just a little bit. [cheering] >> The tall man's got some reach. >> That's right. Pickle ball has just exploded in India these last couple years. They love the competition. They love the game. >> Great spirit. Heavy hands. Some fire blowing through those fingertips [music] >> for an American invented game. The world is starting to grab it and run with it. I >> used to think it was a game. >> They used to say it was a game for old people, but as we've grown to learn, >> it's a game for everybody. >> First time I ever played, I got my butt handed to me by an 82y old. >> So, she was three three years older than you. >> Just a few years older than me with a knee brace on both legs, an elbow brace. >> Humbling. Nothing like it. >> Nothing like it. India coach is getting strongly involved here keeping the ship at course. Oh, Ben New, >> coach for the Australia team as well. >> I love this so much. This is a great match. And uh >> honestly, as far as adjustments go, Brad, I think if Nipper just cleans it up a little bit, >> they're right back in this. >> Just calm down a little bit and I think they have a close thing going. doesn't seem to have a definite weakness on anybody yet. >> Right. Right. A target area or anything like that. >> India has eight. They will be serving. Short games to 15. Win by two. >> And no freezing at 14. So you don't have to have the serve to win the game. >> Third shot drive. Nasty. >> Indian's getting a little confused between the forehand dinks and the backhand dinks. >> That middle dink. That's why it's such a good spot. Force your opponents to have that conversation. Australia with the ball. >> Oh, >> beautiful return. Hard counter. >> Left sneaker almost nailed. Beautiful reset. [cheering] >> Attempted dink. Didn't go high enough. It takes two. Ball sails wide. Andy Horidge to serve. Looking to take over. 79. >> Down by two. >> Oh, [cheering] smack the cord and bounce back. It's not a bad idea, but it's all risk, no reward as far as I can see thus far. Got to clean it up in these short games to 15. >> The format demands it. What a play from India. Also out the two-hander. >> There he is. Nipperus in raw four. >> He's dialing it in. You can sense it. Accord [cheering] hasn't been nice to either team today. tag the line. Great shot. >> After all that, the ball stays in. To be honest, Brett, that point went the distance. But I will say even still, that speed up from Nipperis was >> a form of impatience. [cheering] Orange able to press. They're close. Australia just down by one at 10 to 11. The >> reset worked. Got him back up front. It's really good from Mandy Horic. We got French fries. 11-11. >> Ah, >> very good. A quick shot on camera to Ali Gray who's on the Australian roster. Hopefully we get to see that monster play a little bit this weekend. You notice the confusion as both went for that center dink. What you were talking about before communication isn't is key. >> Yeah, kind of setting the precedent. Kind of knowing who has priority before the point, having the conversation during the point. It's always good to talk it through, but again, great spots from Andy Horidge. He brings the pressure when he should and his placement is usually spot on. So tough team. >> Don't think you can count Indie out of this one just yet. But I will say that uh Australia has found some spots to kind of disarm India >> and they got a little bit of the momentum with a little bit of comeback >> and they're serving on a tie game 11-11. Oh, see what they're doing. Nice recovery. Bold decision from Horidge. Punished by India. >> They were working the side dinks instead of the center. When they went to the center, they got the speed up right back at them. [cheering] again. Piper relocates for that forehand. Offcourt once again. Is it worth it? >> 1312. >> Beautiful drop. Australia handcuffs him and that's really the first time that India initiated in that situation. Nippers handles handles it with these with ease. >> Okay. Serving for the win. >> Oh yeah. Just [cheering] you can see the cause and effect there. That slice return to that drive. Barrels into the net. Got to compensate for that spin just a little. >> Got to get a little under the ball. >> Wide angle sets up Nippris. [cheering] >> The confusion in the center. He gives Australia the win. >> Well, well, we watched an incredible match. Now we've watched the women, we've watched the men, and now it's time for one of each. The mix ego pickle creates back on the other side of plastic waste every year. Most end up in landfills and oceans. The core ego changes that. Made from 100% biodegradable material. It decomposes in just 400 days without losing the performance players trust. The world's first fully biodegradable professional pickle ball. The Core Ego. Built for performance. Built for the planet. From Australia, we have Sarah. And >> well, here we are. We're back. >> First mixed game with Australia winning two to nothing in this match to six points. Six games. >> Josh Nippers is back on the court with no rest between the games. >> He's playing up with Sarah Burr. for Australia. Sergey Desessie and Mika Yadva are representing India. >> The wind looks like it dropped just a little bit from our vantage point. We'll see if that has an effect here on the games. >> I'm thinking it's going to be another action-packed match here. Brett >> Desai Ydav for India. It's a strong duo >> Sarah Burr and Niferus just so refined in the game of pickle ball full time and personally for me Sarah Burr she just >> she drives so well and she knows when to do it wields it so right. So one of the best lefty females in the game. Shout out to Jamie Hos of course. >> Yes. >> But India's down by two and they're feeling hungry. They know they need to make this and get their team back in the race. >> And as this match and as this day and weekend goes on, you can expect Nipris to just get much uh that much more comfortable, more and more comfortable as the weekend goes on and allow him to play his game. And he'll be looking more and more like Ben John's every time we look at him. >> I think if you got to look like somebody, >> yeah, >> should be you, Brett. >> It should be Rob Cassidy. That's who we all want to play like. It's exciting to see the fans dawning flags from their home countries. >> I love it. >> You can take a virtual tour of this of this facility right now. You can see Peru lined up on the fences cheering their team on against the Netherlands which are here as well. >> 60 plus country. We have 68 I think we counted uh last and that's that's unbelievable. >> Thank god we're near the airport. >> Yeah. Absolutely. And uh all that said, I mean, what a testament that the pickle ball world cup does for international pickle ball and you know that route to the Olympics. >> And here we go. >> India serves from the south. >> Slight mis hit by Australia. Hit the edge of the paddle. I might have taught her that shot. A little dodge ball there. Right. She almost almost got somebody. >> That's better. >> Got caught a little bit in the transition zone. India and he paid the price. I'm >> curious to see how much Desai's going to see this ball this game. See if he can inject himself into the game. Take control. Won't be easy against the Aussies. Nice third shot drop. Look at that great recovery. Oh, [cheering] >> to Sai with the finishing blow. >> Boom. That's right. >> Sure you want to force that. These games go a lot quicker than other games we're used to with the rally scoring >> and no freezing at 14. So, every point counts. Beautiful walk. Just a little too long. the returner serve with the back the under slice like Mari Hberg versus the top spin of other players. What have you noticed is pros and cons? >> Nice shot from Nippus. One of the pros of the slice return is that it's very less common. So, they don't see it as often. There's some players that have never really even seen it before. So, it's a very new look for them. They haven't practiced against it. And there's some players out there that simply cannot handle the slice return. It may or may not have been one of them at one point, but that's why you bring that to the drawing board when it's time to drill. Nice pick up from Burr. >> Oh, they fend him off. Burr finds the hole. >> All right, 64. We have a close one here. And two more points. We'll switch sides if Australia can run the series. Slap from Nippris. >> He comes poaching in with power. [cheering] Australia is keeping them back. Ah, now that gets them to the halfway point of this game with switching sides at eight. Well, >> the players are talking to their coaches now, trying to get some advice. >> Doesn't seem like there's a lot of changes for Australia. They're running it well. >> Yeah, I would agree. Sarah Burr, Nipperis has really found their footing. They've played many matches together, many games. There's not much to figure out. The Indian coach is really giving some enthusiastic uh advice. >> Andy Horidge leading the Aussie chant in the crowd. The Australian kin is in the building. >> Just think of all the people who flew across the world to get here. Pretty amazing. Not just the players, but the support teams and fans. >> Sarah Burr, >>
