foreign okay found that uh closer again good afternoon welcome to the press conference um it's just wrong with a bit of a difference we thought we'd have the goalkeeping union here today uh there's always a bit of talk bit of banter and we've also got the goalkeeping coach Tony at office so we might have an eventful 10 minutes or so 10 15 minutes we can do the First with the broadcasters and then we'll go if you switch the microphones off we'll go to the written press okay who uh uh one still first Simon Simon Davis BBC thanks IG um oh Wayne let's start with you um we'll remember your performance against the Ukraine um do you think that performance in particular will seal your place in the starting eleven or is it still up for grabs from what you understand should we start it again sorry I don't know the microphone was answer yeah so uh you know how hopeful are you that given your performance against the Ukraine of a starting 11 place I think that that whole Ukraine game was every single player was was very good in a wheelchair um but for me all of us here were in good form that number one shoot is up for grabs um so the end of the day it's it's a healthy decision it's a good decision to have obviously from the manager's point of view and yeah we'll see Adam how competitive is it between the three of you or I mean obviously it's a professional competitive uh environment but you all want that spot don't you yeah of course yeah um there's a Competitive Edge to all of us that's why we're in this job um yeah it's exciting times um you know we're all out in the training pitch working hard and looking forward to that game on Monday I'm not sure if Adam's Mike was on their um IG was it or oh it is just a bit quiet that's all um Danny uh your former Lester has been fantastic over the last what five six games now it's coincided with leicester's upturn in Fortune what do you put that down to specifically I think it's more just a confidence thing to be honest it was you know we had a tough sort of transfer market which everyone seemed to be talking about in the media and uh sometimes that was difficult to deal with within the changing room but we we knew all the way along you know we looked through the squad of players that we had you know the characters as well as the quality that they could put on the pitch we knew it'd be a matter of time if we could build up them confidence levels that would be back to to the standard that we've seen previous years and thankfully we've gone some way to getting back there Tony how much of an influence do you have of the decision who plays clearly it's Robert Page's called first and foremost but I'd imagine you have a major input yeah we'll sit down with your staff and obviously go through the situation of sort of picking the team of the USA so yeah we'll have an input was not just myself would be obviously all the staff members will be able to chat about it so yeah of course you were an understudied one of the greatest of all time in Neville Southall um so you know what it's like to miss out on that number one spot and how hard that could be yeah that was obviously uh at the time it was one of the best goalkeeps in the world and so I've carried these packs all over the place with systems and I always like to you know fight every training session every camp that will meet up um she's got to keep on going and you know and work out and that's what these boys do every camper they turn up to can't fault them they're all different individuals and um they've all got a high standards which they like to say in training they go through every session just a final one to to Wayne um I know you say it's up four grams but do you feel you're in there that you're in the Mainframe to get that that position given that you have started the games leading up to uh to them no not really um like I said I've been playing much at the moment obviously I had the one cup game on Wednesday uh previously so yeah it's up for grubs um I send the two guys next to me here training really well looking really sharp so yeah it's a big decision gentleman thanks very much okay any more questions from the well yeah hello thanks uh waiting to start with you delayed training yesterday to avoid the heat did that help and how are you all coping with the heat yeah um it helps obviously our first games obviously late at night as well so yeah definitely obviously walking in here now obviously you can see that the heat is it's quite powerful um so obviously the delay training as long as possible is really good for us obviously so the Outfield there's more for the goalkeepers but um yeah I think it's a good decision you know that second game will be at 1pm though do you think by then you'll have acclimatized well fingers crossed uh also fans have just been told that there won't be beer at the ground it doesn't impact you directly do you think it'll impact the atmosphere I hope not um obviously we all love a good atmosphere and with the Wales fans there obviously they're supporting us our 12th month so I'm I'm hopefully it won't distract them in any way just any more from the protesters yeah Phil Blanche yeah a question for Wayne and there may be Danny um just wonder how much sort of use you've had of the world kept ball how much experience you've had of that and how you found it because apparently some tests said it can surprise goalkeepers on occasions um well we've had it now for our last few training sessions um obviously they keep changing the patterns obviously the colors so for us it's obviously getting getting to see it getting to training with it as much as possible and yeah that's probably the best answer I can give you on that it's football isn't it like you still got to do the same job you still can't get behind it towards I understand where the question would be in terms of does he move differently and you know might be lightened than other boards that we've used previously but the job's still the same you know we'll we'll do our workout in the grass and try and get used to it but essentially it doesn't matter which ball it is you've still got to do your job and try and keep it at the back of the net okay yep gentlemen here uh yeah one for Danny if I can um obviously you face them both in the league but um you're gonna be facing Kane and pulisic during the group how much does training with someone like Gareth Bale day in day out during the camp um helping you prepare for that yeah and Gaz has got you know unbelievable quality which we've seen for years and years a lot spent a lot of time facing shots from him on the on the pitch when we've been away done at the veil and stuff with Wales can only it can only saw help I guess but again similar to the last sort of answer it doesn't matter who it is who's taking a shot you know anyone's got the capability of hitting in the top corner or the top of the stand you're just going to be ready to to try and make a safe and what have you made of the World Cup experience so far just being here in you know different place oh I think I think for us all to say you know we're loving it it's what we wanted for so long we've had some some amazing trips in the times previously with the euros and amazing memories and we're looking to do the same out in Qatar just on the right hand side here please thank you thank you hi good afternoon Alejandra Colombia coach what are the sensations the first Sensations you have after some days here in Doha what are the feelings the sense you have of the country and how this can affect your team in the first match against USA yeah obviously there's the conditions the heat um facility the pictures are the same let's say the balls are the same um or Stanley said um so basically it's just it's just getting used to the heat I mean um we've put like I say the other day we put that back training so um because we felt it was too hot for the first time but um we came here yesterday uh today we're going to train obviously the same time but um as in it's just we're taking it just as normal and like trying to just get used to this heat okay thank you um we'll move on to the written press then if you can just switch the microphones off for the next five ten minutes who wants to come visit Scotty Jacob yep thanks Gary you and Wayne went to a game a wrecked some game a few months ago just explain maybe about your friendship and obviously you're obviously competing for the same position but you still have that friendship can you kind of give us an insight into that friendship I'm going on you for now a long time right you didn't have as many gray hairs did you but uh I've noticed you for a long time I had since been involved in the setup here I think it's no secret like us goalkeepers and as a unit we spend so much time together on the grass but you know off the grass as well and you've got to have that that sort of camaraderie within within yourselves because you know when people talk about the goal of Union and how everyone's mates and it's you know this and that it's it's all genuine here like this relationship that we have together is I find it special you know we can all speak to each other in any sort of context it could be whether you're sitting down having a coffee and you want to talk about life whether it's about football uh just everything it's uh I think that speaks not just between myself and Wayne obviously we went to the get back some games together and I think that proves the sort of friendship that we've got it goes for the other two guys as well so either side of me uh we always know whether you're in Camp or or even at home if you need anyone to speak to you just pick up the phone and you know you can rely on these guys yeah exactly the same um like what he said it's it's special um obviously it was so tight pick up the phone whenever any problems yeah it's it's a special thing to have and I can I can honestly look at these two and Tony as well pick up the phone to him yeah it's a special time to have you can ask Adam a question I'll say no you're known as DJ dovo can you give us a little insight into this yeah yeah so obviously house music is my favorite type of music and I've always wanted to learn how to DJ one of the lads at my old clubs for DJ so I said to him listen you've got it you've got to teach me um and yeah he taught me how to do it and then recently I brought my own decks in the house Mrs ain't too happy about that uh yeah I can construct a few tunes together and yeah and we come to me for the music yeah guns as well yeah I'm So Mean Guns will be in a collaboration back to back yeah gentlemen there uh this question is for all three of you since we have the keepers here today thinking back to when you first started playing what Drew you to becoming a goalkeeper and and how did that Foster your passion for the game I mean what was it about the position that really grabbed you if I had no choice but I uh I started playing a team in North Wales hardened ranges where obviously no I didn't want to grow it up I was only a child you know maybe six or seven I didn't want to be a striker and score all the goals on me um it was apparent after maybe two or three training sessions that I was a little bit over enthusiastic if you like and the manager asked that's my old man if he could put me in goal because otherwise I don't think we'd have had a team because of that over enthusiastic way that I had as let's put it politely so that's how I ended up winning golden I don't know it was people call it strange for obviously yeah I mean a football smashed at you from you you point your body on the line all the time and it might not sound enjoyable to some but it's uh I don't know maybe it's something within us which we actually quite enjoy Adam uh yeah so I was always jumping around the house doing roly-polies trying to do backflips front flips um and then when went out on the football pitch I was always good at getting in the way the ball so uh I do play outfield for a little bit but obviously wasn't good enough for that so yeah just stuck to being in goal and I've done all right for me mine's quite simple I wanted to obviously be like my hero Neville Southall um obviously everyone knows back on what he means to me and you know he's a great inspiration and that's how I started okay uh James and then Ian thanks can I ask a different question to everyone if that's all right Adam about the music could you when you'd sort of come up with some tunes depending on who you're playing against well the sort of playlists variant depending on the opposition or uh what's up to you who's going to play on the change room before the match thank you the majority of it would be house music and so very upbeat um a lot of drops a lot of Bass [Music] and if there's a mix that wins you stick with that mix because it's a winning mix um yeah I don't really you know change it for different scenes um like say gun to as well there's a lot of the music too so you know he's been here for years he's he's a known uh Justin Moon DJ um yeah and just like trying to get the lads up for for the game thank you thank you and Danny can I ask you I mean a few of us covered less still we know that start the season wasn't easy for everyone at the club but your form and the whole team's form seems to have been really good of late could you just give us a little bit insight into how it was earlier on the season and and how it's going now please yeah I think it's just a confidence thing to be honest you know it was well documented about what happened in the transfer window with maybe not so many players coming in and then obviously players who have moved on it was a bit maybe a bit of instability within the club at that time I thought I actually got off to a really good start in the first half of football in the first game of the season and we thought nothing was gonna sort of derail us and and on behold you know you get a bit of a sucker puncher Brentford at home and confidence is all of a sudden started to start to drain away and that was seen in the first you know six seven games and the point you know the table didn't lie at that point we knew we weren't good enough and what we were putting out on the pitch I think the last International break came a great time for us in order to maybe go get ourselves away a different environment around new faces and really sort of clear the mind from from domestic football and then you could see everyone was refreshed going back into the building and we always knew what we had talent-wise and and different characters we had in that changing room it was just a case of building that confidence and going maybe Back to Basics a little bit to essentially keep the bar at the back of it and and put it in there in it thank you Danny and Wayne can I just I know the other day we did ask you a bit about Gareth but he's such a big name and you're such good mates with him could you give us a bit of insight into how he's been out here his form and I don't know what his free kicks are like in training for example and just how he's generally shaping up ahead of that first game please yeah his forms very well um like I said finished on a high with LA but like the few last couple of days we've been here he's been sharp enjoying training smile on his face so for us players and obviously Welsh fans it's always nice to see and and I'm sure he can't wait for Monday can we just one last question from Ian thank you thanks Arthur and gents um one for Danny and Adam really Wayne spoke about his his love of Neville Southall as a hero and he was a child who are the goalkeepers that you model your games on when you were younger I also necessarily model yeah everyone's different obviously and everyone has their own certain style but I was you know pitch Michael I was was my sort of my era of growing up he was the main man who's probably the best in the world at that time so I it was someone I used to really enjoy watching so I wouldn't say anyone necessarily inspired me to be a goalkeeper it was apart from my my old sunday League manager who decided to put me in yeah so same for me there but it's Michael was someone who made me want to play in goal but you know that's that's what he said watching Coke he was over the years with under Stars Tim Howard's over in these Premier League Legends um yeah they've uh incredible goalkeepers that you know we've watched over the years just on that one you said you'd be speaking to Neville Southall if you had a chance to catch up with him yet since you've been here I haven't since I've been here no but um I'm not sure I feel if you'll be doing TV work or radio or what um but I'm sure I'll give him a call one one stage probably just before the first game okay thank you um thanks Tony Danny Adam and Wayne thanks Tom so thank you
