[music] Hello and welcome to Market Madness, the podcast from Give Me Sport, where every day is like deadline day. I'm Olivia Bisaglo and we are live today. If you miss anything here, you can catch up with us on MarketMadness, on your favorite podcast app, and of course on givemeport.com. And you can find us on X and Insta as well. For this show, as well as the latest transfer news, we have got a huge lineup for you. When do we not? The one and only for Britzio Romano joins us with his read on the final stretch of the summer transfer window from Manchester United search for a new left back to whether Liverpool can get Barka over the line before deadline day. Plus, FPL expert Giani Batis is here to help you get your FPL squad, I say you, us as well, our FPL squads in shape for gameweek one as it approaches this Friday. And with me as always is Give Me Sports Senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs bringing us the latest breaking transfer news. Ben, this is like the busiest time of the year for you, isn't it? I mean, you're always like the busiest man ever, but like this is extremely busy for you. How are you? >> Yeah, everything is good. World Cup window didn't slow down and now these last few weeks are the window and we're in done deal territory. And there's almost a mini deadline in the sense that you have deadline day, but a lot of clubs want to get their deals done this week in order to have the players in place and potentially available for selection before the Premier League begins. And fantasy football players as well would like to know whether these players are moving as well so they can pick their teams. And I know you're one of them. >> I am definitely one of them. Honestly, I'm like I'm I've been driving myself mad over my FPL team, but that is for later. Let's get into it, shall we? This is Market Madness from Give Me Sport. And joining us right away, the man who needs no introduction whatsoever, it is Fritzio Romano. Britzio, how are you? >> I'm very good, thank you. Thank you. Very, very busy, but very good. I was gonna say I said Ben's the busiest. You're also This is like the busiest time. We are both of us. >> Very, very busy. Okay, let's get straight into it, shall we? We got the here we go Man United with Carlos Belaba, which is very, very exciting or it's very close to being done. Um, what is their situation on maybe signing a left back after Carlos Balaba? >> I think there is a very good chance to see Man United signing more players. Um for Baleba there is still some small step to do and then the deal will be done. But I think it's just a matter of hours how new contacts are already planned between United and and Brighton to close the deal. The player has been pushing for this deal. It's been almost one year August 25 when he already said yes to Man United. He never wanted to consider any other option in England and abroad as he wants to go to Man United. So on player side there is no issue and it's going to happen soon. And then I think United will also get a left back before the end of the window. They are exploring options. I don't think is going to be is all because at the moment Newcastle are not opening the doors so it's not easy at all unless there is a big change before the deadline it's a very complicated one and then let's see what happens also up front because in case of good proposal for Joshua there could be some movement so I think it could be a busy end of the window for for United definitely >> so a busy end to the window for United could it be a busy end of the window for Liverpool as well um obviously what's the update on them signing Bradley Barker and Bay as well before the deadline I mean it's all going on. Could Liverpool be very active? >> They will. They will definitely. I expect Liverpool probably to be among the busiest clubs in Europe in this final 10 12 days of the of the summer transfer window because for sure there is movement on Barcoola. There are negotiations and discussions on daily basis between Paris and German and Liverpool. So it's about reaching a financial agreement but a deal is on. The player wants the move. So Liverpool are working on it and they are definitely pushing to make it happen as soon as possible. And then I expect also Liverpool to add one more winger to the squad especially if K gapo goes to goes to Tottenham. Bay is one of the names. It's true they had conversations with the agent of the player George Mendes. But at the moment it depends on the valuation. I don't see Liverpool paying 200 million euros to pier man for Barcoola and Bay. So or the price comes down uh for for both players or Barcola top priority and eventually Bayer but Liverpool also have more options on the list. >> Fixitio let's move to North London. Arsenal are busy dealing principle for Ezri concert. Give us the details there. And are we going to see outgoings and are we going to see a left-sided attacker come in? [snorts] >> I think also Arsenal are going to be busy as you say the concert is done. It's verbally agreed for 50 million pounds plus Edons. So everything is okay. He will have his medical in the next 48 hours and then will be official. So finally the new defender they also called Atletico Madrid in the recent days for Mark Pubil but the player was not for sale and so Arsenal closed the deal for for Cona and now I expect Arsenal also to work on some outgoings for example Gabrio Jesus attracting interest from Napoli not only for Gabriel Martinelli there could be movement let's see what they decide to do with one because the expectation is for the player to go but still trying to understand the formula and the final decision to be made together with Miketa. So I think it's going to be it's going to be busy for Arsenal. And then to answer your question, for sure Arsenal are looking at wingers and that's that's the reality. They're trying to see if there is the right option on the market. So there are conversations ongoing. It's not an easy market for wingers, not just for Arsenal. Several clubs have been looking at that position and it's not that easy, but Arsenal are exploring the market and so I expect them to add also something in that position. >> What's your read specifically for Britzio on Julian Alvarez? Because in some ways two contradictory statements yesterday from Diego Simeone. The first saying not part of the squad for Malaga. The second saying quote case closed because the hierarchy don't want to sell. Is there still a chance we could see him leave between now and the end of the window? >> Well, look, never say never in football, but but the understanding coming from Atletico Madrid and the most important people at Madrid, not just in public, but even in private is that they don't want to sell Alvarez is that they took a very clear position even in public with their co a few weeks ago and that remains the stance. So Atéico have no intention to negotiate on to let the player go especially to Barcelona. So at the moment has gone completely quiet and cold for a few weeks and at the moment the expectation of Atletico is that maybe there could be movement till the very end with another striker Alexander Slot. There is some interest in Sorlot and maybe if he leaves Atletico could add one more attacker but at the moment with Holl has gone very very quiet. Let's stay in North London with Tottenham. It feels like they're going to be busy between now and the end of the window you've reported previously. Cinho, Gakpo, maybe an out and out define number nine. How many players might Tottenham sign in these next 12 days? >> I think for sure up front I expect three signings. So I expect two wingers and an attacker. I keep saying that and that's the feeling. I think Tottenham will get the three players then obviously depends on negotiations but that's the idea. So Savinho is the priority. Pedronto is the backup if Savinho is not happening. So it's between these two. Kodi gakpo is a deal that they want to make it happen and there is a daily conversations about that and the player is also open to joining then we have to see what they decide to do in terms of center striker so there's also some conversation about that I think that's it at the moment then let's see for the fullbacks maybe if an opportunity appears on the market could be interested after just pence left the club but that's not a guaranteed signing yet >> for Britzio now you've mentioned obviously Pedonetto is maybe on Spurs's list is there a chance that if he doesn't leave Chelsea to go to Spurs. He could leave Chelsea to go somewhere else. >> Yes, for sure. I think it's between Spurs and Alilal in this moment for Pedronto. Pedronto is on Spurs list, but again the priority Savinho. Then Alil is also a possibility. Alil made contact with his agent. Alilal are interested in the player. So these two names are going to keep us busy I think in the next days. Pedronto and Savinho. Manchester City also spoke to the agent few weeks ago. They were interested because if Sinho goes to Tottenham, it was a possibility to consider Pedronto as an alternative. But Man City believe that the valuation made by Chelsea is way too high. Chelsea point at 100 million pounds. I think at the end is going to be less than this but still too much for Manchester City. And so I think it's between Alal and Tottenham. >> Theund million pounds from Pedro. Listen, I like Pedro Netto. I think he's quite good. But for my club to put 100 million pound price tag on him. I'm not quite sure we're going to sell him for anything close to that. Um you mentioned Lewis Hall a little bit earlier for Britzio and that Newcastle have been very closed off with that. have a have had a bit of a tough summer to say the least with all of the players going and Eddie how um I know Nico Gonzalez has been linked with the move to Newcastle. Could could that happen or is a midfielder a priority for them? >> It is absolutely they need to replace Bruno Mar. They tried for several midfielders. Hyak decided at the moment to stay at Marcel then they had some contacts for Palinia. So they considered several options. I think now Nikico for sure is the most prominent name on their short list. They had contacts with the agents, they had contacts with Manchester City. From what I'm hearing, Man City are not closing the door to the exit of Nikico, then the valuation has to be met because obviously Man City are short of midfielders at this point of the season. They will add more midfielders for sure, but still for Nikico, they make an important valuation. So there will be contacts between Newcastle and Man City again today and I think in the next 24 48 hours to try advance on this deal. For Palinia, he's also on Newcastle list, but not as a top priority now. And for Palinia there is now also Benfica pushing a lot. So maybe Palinia is not returning to the Premier League. >> Fitzio lots of possible exits. Milkyo Mudri for example on alone will be a very interesting story. Newcastle as you've mentioned are going to be busy. City are looking for their midfielders. Chelsea, you never know. They might replace Enenzo Fernandez if he leaves. There was a 64 million pound bid rejected for Alex Scott. What else that we haven't discussed are you looking out for between now and the end of the window? >> I think Man City is the most interesting one to me to be honest because Man City for Man City feels like it's beginning of June, not even the August. They have to do many things. Midfield is a crucial crucial part of the area of the pitch and obviously when you lose Rodri, when you lose Bernardo Silva, when you lose Djani Enders who is joining Alcatia and let's see what happens also with Niko Gonzalez, it's a complete rebuild. So they need to close Badi. We have to understand if they will return for Fernandez or not. And then if Nikico leaves, we have to see if City decide to add even one more. So they are considering several options and I think City are going to keep us absolutely super busy in the next days and it's going to be very very interesting because they have big money to spend but also they want to be smart. They already spent big money on Anderson. So it's just the beginning of something they will do in the next next days. >> Oh gosh, I'm wait I'm waiting for that 120 million pound [laughter] Fernandez. I can see it now. Um, Fitzio, thank you so much. It's always a pleasure. Thank you for your time. And we'll be checking in with you right up until deadline day, of course. >> Thank you. My pleasure as always. I will see you soon. Ciao, guys. >> See you later. >> Cheers, Pritzio. >> This is Mark Madness from Give Me Sport. Oh god, Enzo. I can't work out if I think Enzo Fernandez [laughter] is going to go or Enzo Fernandez is going to stay, but City have actually got like no midfielders now. They've got what Elliot Anderson, Matteo, if Nikico Gonzalez goes to Newcastle, they're going to have to spend big and get and get someone, aren't they? >> Yeah, I think the feeling is that Aya Batti can get done. That deal is at the final stages and it seems like it's an immediate transfer. And then you got Enzo Fernandez as well. So that would be two. And almost certainly if City are going to sanction Nikico Gonzalez to Newcastle or elsewhere, they'll need to know that minimum two are going to come in. Rodri was a player that they would have liked to keep. But we know City have got a kind of history of not standing in players ways when they asked for the move. The only real test there was was Enzo Moresca going to have a different perspective to how Pep Guardiola treated these kind of departures. Bernardo Silva obviously left as well and ended up joining Real Madrid. So this midfield revamp was needed and of course people ask the question how on earth could they possibly afford Elliot Anderson plus Enzo Fernandez plus Ayabui because that would be over 300 million pounds but if Nikico Gonzalez is sold the combination of Tani Rind Alcadia and Rodri Barcelona is basically 120 million pounds there's Jurenzo Fernandez Cinho could be sold Omar Marmush has a question mark over his future as well so city like Chelsea have always been able to generate big fees and that's ultimately why they can be aggressive in the market. But there's a lot of clubs that are leaving these midfield revamps or these question marks over midfielders leaving until very late in the window. And that's what's going to make deadline day in my opinion really exciting. And with Enzo Fernandez specifically, I suppose Chelsea's perspective is there was a very specific number at which it could have got done earlier with set terms. That deadline's passed, but it doesn't mean the saga is over. >> Yeah, I think it's going to be really interesting. And I like that you mentioned Mudri um the loan move potentially somewhere. I mean, I I went to a Premier League launch day. I was Frank Lampard was there. I had a little chat with him. I should have been like, "Oh, do you want to take him in commentary?" Where do you think is a realistic move for someone like Mail Modric now? Because is it somewhere like Strasborg? Is it to another Premier League team? Where's most likely for him to go? >> Yeah, there's one loan spot at Strasburg. So, one possibility, but I get the impression those close to Mudri prefer Premier League or possibly even other late clubs that might come in that could offer the player European football. Key maybe to Mudri's season is going to be playing every week, which means that Coventry, which has been long linked and have had a genuine interest, is maybe one option. But when you look at that kind of club that might have to be up for a relegation fight from Mudri's perspective, it doesn't help him unless he's going to be playing every week. So Matt Sharpness is going to be an aspect as to how these clubs decide if they're going to move for him. If you then look at a club maybe with Europa League, Europa Conference League that invites a longer season and probably guarantees Mudrik a set amount of games that are lower risk to all parties. And that's why they've taken two weeks so he can build up group training, so he can build up match sharpness. He's got the fitness because he hired a bunch of personal trainers for the best part of two years, but he hasn't been in that group environment or in that match environment. So, it is quite a challenging loan. And I know people will say, well, just send him to Strasburg. Strasburg will play him every week. Job done. But I think Mudri's actually got that confidence to say, somebody else is going to come in for me. may be in the Premier League late in the window and that's ultimately why they have taken this period of reflection and now let's see if it is Strasburg but if the player had a choice I think he would actually like to stay within the Premier League. >> Yeah, let's move on and talk about Villa quickly because obviously I feel like with Newcastle it's very similar that the two teams that have had FFP or financial troubles for for the last couple of seasons and they're sort of doing what they can. You know, Villa had a very good season. They got top four. They won the Europa League and and now we're looking at Yuri Tieleman's leaving, Morgan Rogers leaving and Ezri Ka leaving as well. I know they have bought a few players in but nothing compared to the size of player that have left. So what what situation a Villa in and how how will their fans feel do you think about about Ezri Ker going to Arsenal? >> Yeah, disappointed of course, but they did announce two signings today. So as you said, it's not all bad news and Villa will be in the market for a number nine. Nicholas Jackson is one possibility. Ollie Watkins and Alhilal is a live story. Saudi sources tell me pretty clearly that the main aim here is to bid again and to play on the fact that the player would like this challenge and ultimately the finances. Al-Hilal is not just one of the biggest clubs in Saudi Arabia. It's one of the biggest teams in Asia period. So this is part of the appeal. And remember at Al-Hilal, you've now got a new private investor that's always had a minority stake in the club, but is now the majority owner in Prince Alwalid. And then you have Simon Francis, technical director, X Bournemouth, and Richard Hughes, widely expected to come in sooner rather than later, but obviously not while the window is open. So, this is a really appealing project, I think, to peak age or slightly older Premier League players like Ollie Watkins because they've got much more of a patient and Premier League driven mentality that will be conducive to a lot of players and what they're looking for in terms of facilities and infrastructure and long-term pathways as opposed to just bringing in stars and changing them every minute. And at Alhilawa, what you're now seeing is the old guard, some of the signings like Darwin Nunees off to Algeria on a straight loan. And regarding Karen Benzema, he could leave as well as I revealed a couple of months ago. But yeah, back to Villa, if you'd said to Villa fans at the beginning of the window, Emmy Martinez might leave and if he stays he'll be a number two because Zion Suzuki exclusive story has come in and then Ezri Con will go plus the fact Yuri Tieleman's Luca both had release clauses. Nothing they could do about that. And Ollie Watkins depart as well. I think Villa fans would have looked at you like you're absolutely mad and they've got to revamp and use the fact they've got Champions League football and a great club with a top manager to really spend some of this money as well that they've brought in in order to lay foundations to keep Unai Emory in a position where he can continue to fight for Champions League football and contend this season on multiple fronts. But now it's going to be absolutely fascinating to see how quickly Villa can plug the holes left by those departures an
