[music] [music] [music] [gasps] >> Hello and welcome to Market Madness for the second time today for our deadline day special. We've got almost 6 hours to go now until the deadline and of course plenty left to discuss. I'm Olivia Buzaglo and we are live. If you miss anything here, make sure you catch up with us on Market Madness on your favorite podcast app of choice and on givemesport.com. And you can of course find us all on X and Insta. Give me sports senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs is with me all show bringing you the very latest as we edge closer to the window slamming shut. Ben, it's great to see you. I imagine this is one of the busiest days of your entire year every year. So let's get straight into it. Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City. Can you give us an update and if Chelsea will be out there looking for someone to bring in to replace Enzo Fernandez? >> Yeah, so Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City is done for 125 million pounds. So it is a joint British transfer record equaling the fee that saw Alexander Isak last summer go to Liverpool from Newcastle United. It is an all fixed fee. Now interestingly, Chelsea's perspective is that Enzo Fernandez wanted this move. He had the pre-existing relationship with the former Chelsea boss now Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca. And in the end it felt like all parties needed to just move on. And Chelsea [clears throat] also feel it's in the interest of their own badge to grant this move to Enzo Fernandez. Now all window really this has hovered over Chelsea's head. First Real Madrid, then Manchester City. Then there was the deadline a couple of weeks ago which passed and as I revealed on JMS, the bid if it was to succeed needed to be more than 120 million because those were the terms and the number for a deadline that already passed and as a consequence City going higher. It feels like a deal that suits all parties, but to answer the second part of your question, there is no guarantee I am now told that Chelsea add another midfielder which is a bit of a surprise because they bid twice for Lamine Camara. The problem there is Monaco's valuation and Monaco need a replacement and the window in France closes earlier than here in the UK. Manu Kone they tried, but Gasperini blocked the move. There were other names like Morgan Gibbs-White a kind of dream target, but there was never any chance of that one getting done. Lucas Bergvall was discussed as well. Martin Zubimendi, but Arsenal didn't add so they didn't need any outgoings and that's why there was never a chance of getting Zubimendi either. So Chelsea have kind of resigned themselves barring any late surprises which of course are always possible in these final hours of the window, but as of now Chelsea's feeling is they've actually brought in this summer a British record of their own over 500 million pounds in incomings and if they can't do anything late in this window now and the expectations are that's the direction of travel, they will plan for January onwards and I suspect that in 2027 Alex Scott will form a huge part of their thinking. >> My club, my club, my club. Um anyway, okay, let's move on then because uh it looks like Leeds are about to add a new wide player to their team. Is that right? >> Yes, so Leeds United have had a fascinating day and it started by bringing in Melvin Bard on loan from Nice. They always wanted a full back. And now we have this kind of interlink saga heading towards the deadline close. Leeds want Jean Mattéo Bahoya, who is a wide attacker that has been significantly in demand in this window. And Hull City thought that they had a deal agreed for the player a couple of days ago. But then when they went to do the personal terms, nothing could be agreed. And now the Frankfurt attacking midfielder, or can be wide attacker as I say as well, has had two options on deadline day. The first, Leeds. The second, potentially Sunderland, but they've moved on to other targets. Sunderland are still working out can they finalize Malick Fofana? That's a crazy saga that we'll speak about after the window, but Sunderland agreed a fee, then Crystal Palace tried to hijack it, then Sunderland moved into the lead, and yet the player hasn't formalized with anybody at the time that we are live. So, as a result, Sunderland thought is Bahoya somebody that we need to add on our list as well. But Leeds are the favorites if this one gets done. It's a bit of a race against time, and it's linked to Willy Gnonto, which is another crazy deadline day saga. So, Gnonto went yesterday to Fiorentina. He's passed his medical, the paperwork is all done, so it can be signed, but Leeds will not sign it unless they bring in an attacker first. And the challenge is that time is running out. And believe it or not, Liv, Gnonto has already been pictured in a Fiorentina kit, and yet that deal is not done. >> Oh my gosh. >> [laughter] >> Okay, there's so much going on at Leeds. Um Ben, obviously Malick Fofana, it looked like he was going to Sunderland. Um then reports that maybe Crystal Palace were interested in him, he'd spoken to to Pierre Sage. So, what is the update? Is Malik Fofana going anywhere? Okay, well, I wish I could give you an update on Malik Fofana. Um, but it feels like Ben has gone. We will try and get him back um sooner rather than later. It does look like, well, Sunderland were in for him. And I thought actually he would be a really good addition to the Sunderland squad given um they're in the Europa League. But if he's spoken to Pierre Sarge, maybe he's on the way to Crystal Palace. Um, we don't know. Um, obviously so much going on um on transfer deadline day. Um, we will try and get Ben back for you as quickly as possible. Um, I will Are we getting um just wondering who we're getting on. I think we're still going to get Ben on, so I won't go too deep into everything else we're going to talk about. We're going to give you an update on Jamie Vardy and where Ben thinks he's going to end up. And of course all of this going on between Chelsea uh between Spurs and Chelsea as well um because Mykhailo Mudryk looked like he was going to Spurs on loan. Um, Tosin looked like he was signing there on a permanent deal. So Spurs have been um very very busy this transfer window. Um, they needed to, I suppose, um after the the couple of seasons they had. Right, we're back. I was just so I don't know what I was talking about for those five minutes for those two minutes which felt like an eternity, Ben. Okay, we're back. Um, let's get an update on Malik Fofana. Um, where is he going? >> Yeah, as I say, this has been one of the craziest stories really of deadline day. So in the morning Sunderland agree a fee, 30 million euros, 5 million in add-ons, but Crystal Palace tried to hijack the deal. And then they failed or at least have failed as of now. So Sunderland said, "Okay, we're going to sort you a jet. We're going to bring you to the northeast. We're going to formalize the move." But the player didn't get on the plane. So, this is either going to have to be formalized in France or >> What? >> maybe the player even goes nowhere. Or possibly, we get another late hijack, a hijack upon hijack with the second hijack maybe succeeding. And this is the market in a nutshell, so much late window movement, very unpredictable. So, Sunderland are still hoping they've won this race. They believe they are ahead of Crystal Palace, but then knowing they're ahead of Crystal Palace, they sent a plane and the player didn't board it. So, welcome to transfer window madness, which 10 years ago would have just been a player in a car driving from one place to the other. Peter Odemwingie style, but now it's fancy private planes. And I'll have >> get on the >> to update this one. No, he never boarded it. But again, you're in a situation where medicals don't have to be done necessarily at the club, at the training ground. >> Yeah. >> They can take many different forms, private facilities, and so on. >> Yeah. >> going to have to wait and see how this one develops in the evening. Sunderland thought they'd won it, then thought they'd lost it to Palace, then thought they'd won it again. And now the player hasn't got on the plane that was sent for him, and that news only reached me a couple of minutes ago. >> Oh, wow. >> in the next few hours where Malik Fofana will end up going. Sunderland don't consider the deal dead as of now, 5:51 on a Tuesday on deadline day. But clearly, the fact he hasn't got on the plane has come as a surprise to Sunderland Football Club. >> Wow, wow, wow. I can't believe he didn't get on the I wonder where he'll go. If he'll go anywhere, maybe he won't even go anywhere. Okay, where do you think, Ben? A couple of questions left before I let you go. Where do you think Jamie Vardy is going to end up? >> Yeah, so Jamie Vardy will not move today. That's the first thing to say. Wrexham are the latest club that have made an inquiry. Sheffield United would like to bring him back as well, but they have some financial restrictions. And Sao Paulo in Brazil are another team that have made an approach. And I'm told that Jamie Vardy hasn't just had a handful, he's had closer to a dozen offers. Some have been turned down, some are still there. West Ham were another club that had explored a move as well. But Vardy's free agent, so he doesn't have to make a decision today. He's not going to make a decision today. He's not going to sign for Wrexham today. But they are the latest club to have presented a proposal. So this is going to be one to watch in September or beyond. But Vardy wants to take his time. Leicester return not on the cards, I'm told. He was training at Leicester or he did like a medical checkup at Leicester. But it wasn't a trial, it wasn't a return, and there's been no offer from his former club Leicester City. Sheffield Wednesday, Wrexham, West Ham, Sao Paulo, MLS interest, and no doubt others as well. But this will not be a deadline day story. >> Okay, everyone. We will get a plenty more updates on where Jamie Vardy is going to go. Just before we let you go, Ben. Um, Spurs, obviously, look like they, you know, I don't know if they've openly confirmed yet, but Tosin on a permanent deal, uh, Mykhailo Mudryk, on loan. After those two, are Spurs done? >> Yeah, it seems that way. And suggestions doing the rounds that they tried to revive Cody Gakpo wider the mark, according to my information, Liverpool have decided to keep Cody Gakpo. Mykhailo Mudryk joining, that one has been done. I believe that we're only pending the formal announcement. It's a loan with a buy option at 75 million pounds, which I know seems high, but ultimately, he was a 100 million euros player. And if he does well and Tottenham want to buy, they'll have to pay a premium. And if he does well and he's worth that amount, then Chelsea might end up still taking him back. But they were never going to set, in my opinion, anyway, speaking to sources, the buy option crazy low. One because Chelsea are not in a position where they've judged Mudryk yet. That's the purpose of the loan, so they're not desperate to sell. And two, because if they do sell, they won't want to make a book loss. So, sometimes in deals, and I'm led to believe, by the way, this is the case with Ronald Araújo at Liverpool, as well, you put in a buy option as a kind of concession. So, it's not to say to the player, "We're not buying you." But, it is to say to the player, "The primary purpose of this is short-term." And if in that short-term you change your mind, having the option to buy you is a luxury, but you don't go in with the intent to buy. And that's why it's not a conditional obligation. That's why it's not a number that Spurs would want to buy Mudryk at now, and that's why the player, in both Araújo's case and Mudryk's case, has not pre-agreed terms on anything longer than their short-term duration at the club. So, Mudryk is done. So is Tosin, 7 million pounds, 5 million in add-ons, two bits of business, and the latter has allowed Tottenham to sanction Kevin Danso to Sunderland on a permanent deal, as well. And I think that will be that for Tottenham Hotspur. Lucas Bergvall appears to be staying, as it stands. Archie Gray had a bid a couple of days ago from a Premier League club that will remain unnamed. And again, that was turned away because Tottenham don't want to sell, and they value Archie Gray because he can play right back. And that was the only thing running through my head in all of this, that if Richarlison stayed, and he is at the moment, but some windows will extend beyond tonight, then it always felt like once Tottenham had another left attacker, plus Marmoush, who can and did lead the line in his debut, that's enough for Tottenham. But, at the back of my mind was, do they need another right back after Djed Spence departed? And now Söyüncü's gone on loan to Porto on the left-hand side, and Spence could cover left or right. So, they're a little bit weaker, even though Andy Robertson is obviously one of the players that's coming in. But, it's all quiet on that front at the moment, and obviously time is ticking away. So, that deal will be announced, the double deal of Tosin and Mykhailo Mudryk, but I'm not aware, as of now anyway, of anything else for Tottenham. >> Ooh, Nearly choked then. Thank you so much. I was choking on Mykhailo Mudryk being in a Spurs shirt, I think. This is what my my head can't comprehend. I'm not sure I'm ready to see it either because I really like him. And listen, I hope it goes well for him. But yeah, still a little bit little bit weird. Uh Ben, thank you so much. I know how busy you are. We will let you go. Really appreciate you taking your time. And enjoy the next 5 hours, 6 hours of transfer deadline day. >> Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. And Sam Curran will be on, I believe, in a moment. And he'll have a Manchester United exclusive that both both of us broke on GMS from a bit earlier. And that's one for Man United fans to stay tuned for because they might not quite be done between now and the end of the window. >> Ben, thank you so much. Always a pleasure. >> See you later. >> See you later. Now, this really is market madness from Give Me Sport. >> [music] >> Right. Should we bring in Sam Curran? Let's bring in Sam Curran. As Ben was just saying, uh Sam, you've been sat alongside Ben all day and you've been across two stories your stories as well. Um so good to have you on. Just first of all, how's your transfer deadline day been? >> Yeah, it's been good. It's been hectic. Um you know what? Normally, the morning of deadline day is kind of a bit boring. There's not a lot going on. But this literally has been non-stop since about 7:00 a.m. Um and it looks like it won't be non-stop with all these deals still having to be announced. Mudryk, Tossin, Enzo Fernandez, all these deals still need to be announced. So, at the moment, deadline day is ever ever ongoing. >> Okay, let's start then with Louie Page. What is the latest you're hearing with him? >> Yes, it's an exclusive we broke uh at around 2:00 p.m. UK time today. It was that Manchester United, uh despite reports, have remained interested in a potential deal for Louie Page ahead of the tonight's deadline. Now, these talks, I'm told, are still ongoing. There's still work to be done to close um the Louie Payne's deal. The club aren't ruling out further incomings as it stands. Um something that could potentially complicate this deal, Liv, is the fact that Leicester host Plymouth this evening at 7:45 UK time, and that is obviously adding another factor to the timing of any potential uh late move for Payne. So, this is definitely one to keep an eye on in the last few hours, and we should uh become more clear when the Leicester team sheet comes out in about 45 minutes time. >> Oh, one to keep your eye on then, Leicester fans. Will he be in the squad? Will he not? Okay. Uh let's move on to Callum O'Hare. Um what about his move to Wrexham? Is it close? Is it close to being confirmed? There's still work to do? >> Uh so, Wrexham uh yeah, they've uh signed Callum O'Hare from Sheffield United for a fee of around 6.5 uh million pounds. That story was broken um on Monday uh by our uh by GiveMeSport senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, who was with you before, and it now looks like Wrexham are set to get that done. >> Okay. What about any other deals in the in the EFL? Are there any other clubs still going for players? Obviously, not a lot of time left, but who do you think's going to be most active between now and the end of the window? >> Yeah, so a few of the uh League Two clubs, a few of them are finished. Um they've announced a couple of signings each today. Just some to run you guys through. Um Salford City have signed Nathan Asamoah on a season-long loan from Charlton Athletic. Um Northampton Town have also announced of winger Owen Dale. Uh I'm told that the signing of Owen Dale is now Northampton's final signing of this window. Um loads of Northampton fans were asking about that one. I can also reveal uh now live on air as of 6:00 p.m., Port Vale's window is now over. Um also, after signing Melis Asamoah from Wigan, they also brought in uh Kairo Figueroa joining on loan uh from Liverpool's academy. What is still to uh look out for today? One to still watch is Charlton Athletic. They're in advanced talks to sign AFC Wimbledon winger Junior Nkayi with talks progressing over a deadline day move. Also interest in former Tottenham player Oliver Skipp. You can think what you want about that one. And yeah, as I said, we're getting to that stage now where some clubs are, you know, shutting up the shop like Northampton and Port Vale, but there are still deals developing elsewhere. And away from the EFL a story that we also broke this morning is that Manchester United women are set to sign Mexico captain Rebecca Bernal from Washington Spirit. She underwent her Manchester United women medical this morning. She's also captained Mexico since 2019. >> Thank you very much for that, Sam. And before I let you go, I would like to ask you, who do you think is going to have, when you look at this deadline day and everything that's going to be done on deadline day, who do you think's going to go as the best deadline day signing in Premier League football? Who do you reckon? I mean, I'm putting you on the spot a little bit, but like if you're thinking Enzo Fernandez to to Manchester City, I mean it like, you know, these big deals don't often happen on deadline day anymore, but this is the biggest one for a while. >> Yeah, the Enzo Fernandez one is a big one. Although, I just Yeah, look, there's no beating around the bush. It is a massive, massive signing, but everyone knew it was kind of going to happen. So, it's not like it's not like a wow, Enzo Fernandez moved on deadline day. Do you know what I mean? Everyone sort of knew it was going to happen. Do you know what I think is kind of a underrated signing that's happened was when Aston Villa announced this afternoon the signing of Ibrahim Sangare. He obviously had interest from numerous Premier League clubs. But Villa are getting a player there who's already been part of a PSG side that won back-to-back Champions Leagues. He scored in the World Cup this summer. I think that is probably one of the most underrated signings, I'd say. >> I also I Villa looked way back to themselves um against Arsenal, I thought, on on Monday night football. And I like the signing of Leon Goretzka, as well. Um I actually quite like Nicolas Jackson. I like the business that Villa have done. I know they've had their whole spine ripped out of their team, but I do like the replacement. If you look at business that everyone's done in the Premier League, just finally before I let you go, Sam, who do you think's had the best transfer window? >> I think I don't like to say as a Manchester United fan, but look, Ma
