Hello and welcome along to the latest of my GMS newsletters. Ben Jacobs with you live from Madrid. I am attending World Football Summit. Many of the windows are shut and yet the market is still busy and there's only one place to start and that's with the future of the Manchester United starlet JJ Gabriel. Now the player has asked Manchester United to leave and cancel his registration. Manchester United can block that until summer next year. And yet the player side could go to the Premier League and challenge it in order to get out as soon as possible. In addition, another very interesting part of this story is that with an Irish passport, JJ Gabrielle can leave for a European club at the age of 16 instead of 18. And at the moment, my understanding is that Real Madrid are one of the leading contenders for Gabriel's signature if he leaves Manchester United. Barcelona are there as well. Bayern Munich have made inquiries too and ultimately most elite clubs are alert to this possibility knowing now that the player wants out. Chelsea have been monitoring the situation. and Manchester City tried to sign Gabriel in the past, but my information is that a move to Spain and Real Madrid or Barcelona in particular is looking like the most viable possibility if Gabriel leaves Manchester United. Now, the 15-year-old turns 16 on October the 6th. And that's significant because, as I said before, with an Irish passport, he can leave at the age of 16, but it requires Manchester United to play ball, and that's where the Premier League may have to come in and intervene. And the reason for the breakdown is kind of twofold. It all comes down to pathway really. First of all, in preseason, Gabriel felt like he didn't get enough minutes. And then when Manchester United played midweek in the Champions League, he wanted to be included in that match day squad. And that was maybe to an extent the straw that broke the Campbell's back. Then if we flash forward to today, Manchester United are playing Brighton in the League Cup and the intent was to include Gabriel in the matchday squad, but everything has kind of come to a head. Gabriel hasn't trained for the last few days and he wants to leave. Manchester United feel like they have time to try and rectify the situation, but my understanding is the player side are pushing for an exit and as soon as possible. And once again, although there are several European and Premier League suitors and Manchester City came quite close to signing the player in the past, at the moment it looks like being an Eláico battle and Real Madrid are as of now anyway one of the leading contenders for Gabriel's signature. Then a quick word on a couple of potential new deals. The first is almost 100% done. Mikuel Artetta is going to extend at Arsenal and the parties were always going to finalize this one after the transfer window shut. So there's no urgency in the sense that it's heading towards a positive conclusion, but talks between Arsenal and Artetta are now advanced and my expectation is that Mike Artetta will extend at Arsenal sooner rather than later. A slightly more complicated situation is the future of Alex Scott who informed Bournemouth during the transfer window that he didn't want to sign a new contract and that was off the back of interest from Chelsea who as I exclusively revealed bid64 million. Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have all made inquiries and Liverpool appreciate the player as well. So, Alex Scott is expected to leave Bournemouth in 2027, but the consideration now the windows shut is does he sign a new deal in the short term and get a pay rise and then still have the ability to leave in the summer of 2027 because Bournemouth are willing to offer a release clause with Antoine Semena. It was a January and a summer release clause. My feeling is that Bournemouth would prefer only a summer release clause with Scott if possible if he agrees to sign a new deal and then he would get a one season payriseise with a release clause set likely at market valuation and then be able to leave in the summer of 2027. It may be deemed a bit disruptive now to give Scott an out in January. But Scott's future is going to be one to watch. Even though it seems a bit contradictory to say he might sign a new deal and he might go in 2027, this is ultimately how Bournemouth's model works and as with Anton Simemena, they're prepared to give Scott the ability to go even if he signs a new deal in the coming weeks or months. Now, Chelsea knew that Scott was open to the move, but he was ever professional. And the point here is not just Scott looking to leave at some point next year. It's the ambition of Bournemouth's project which ultimately is why the player is never agitated or pushed or handed in a transfer request because Bournemouth's project is going places. They finished in sixth last season. They've got European football. They've kept all their stars together. They've got a top new manager in Marco Rosa. And although headlines tend to lean towards who wants Scott, the fact that he's still there and professional and committed is a big compliment to Bournemouth's project. And then just final word on Leicester City. The deadline for prospective biders to place their indicative offers has now passed. Nobody that's gone through the investment bank City Group has come forwards yet. But we know about one bidder Neil Lal who I interviewed last week who's gone directly to the club and he has placed an offer. Um my information is that there's at least three active bidders in this process including LL. L would like to take 25% of the club and he's got three other investors that will also take 25%. The concern is the asking price over200 million pounds plus the inherited debt as well which makes Leicester City a very costly purchase but it may be as this process develops that that asking price comes down a little bit. Nobody's done any significant due diligence yet because Leicester haven't opened up the books totally. And what's unclear is whether two or three groups are going to be put forwards to really comb through the finances or whether cityroup and Leicester City are going to pick one preferred bidder and grant them a short period of exclusivity. But the Leicester sale process now is expected to move because that first deadline for indicative offers of September the 14th has now passed. And there's an element of urgency to this as well because of Leicester's financial situation and their reasonably precarious league position as well after a disappointing start to the season. Although they did beat Stockport County 4-3 in their last game. So, more updates on the prospective new owner of Leicester City to follow over the course of the coming weeks.
