Now, for this show, as well as the latest transfer news, we are going to be hearing first of all from the man who helped turn Yandia Mande from a rejected trialist into one of the hottest properties in world football. Plus, journalist Jamie Jackson will be joining us as we give our verdict on England ahead of their final group game against Panama tomorrow night. This is Market Madness from Gibney Sports. >> [music] >> Yes, I'm delighted to say that live with us now is someone who's there at the very beginning of Yandi Mandai's journey in professional football, Fasel Chahare. Great to have you with us. How are you doing today in Madrid? >> Very good. Thank you. It's a pleasure to be to be here with you guys. Now facil you're the individual individual development coach at Leanes and that is the club that that took a chance on Yandu Mandeo. Now given that he's at the center of this global bidding war for his skills, it seems amazing to think that people weren't always looking to take a chance on this unbelievable player. What What were your first impressions of him? Uh first of all, Lean from a personality perspective, personality point of view, he's when he first came, when we first met, um I can see that he's someone that doesn't talk much, doesn't like to talk much. He's shy, he wants to stay in his shell, but I can see confidence in his eyes. You know, obviously, like most of African kids, football is not just a hobby. It's an escape actually for him and his his family. So, I've seen confidence in his eyes and I was looking forward to to start working with him. >> When you say it's escape, you mean it's something that they're looking to do for fun, but also to change their lives. Is that what you mean? >> To change his life, to change the life of his family back home, to change maybe the life of the whole town. You know, football is hope in in in most of Africa. So, so yeah. >> Yeah, it's a significant weight as well to put on the the shoulders of someone so young but so talented. What what was the moment? I imagine there were several, but what was the moment when you thought this guy has got something really special? >> So, I would actually break it down into three parts. Uh the first time is when they've sent me the his video highlights. I remember he was playing for the U16's national team and I can tell that he's a natural African talent. His his capability of taking players one-on-one. Everyone wants to see this player. Not only coaches wants to have him and then spectators wants to see him every time on the ball. So this maybe was the first time and then the second time is his first training session with the with the9s where he got the ball and he took three players on and then easily scored the goal dribbling with his right foot, left foot, changed direction. No one could have taken the ball away from him and then scored the banger. And for me, yes, it caught my eye. Everyone's actually everyone's eye and everyone said this kid is is is something. But the question always um lies is can he take this into professional football I mean into men's football and this is where when we've seen him first time playing against the first team it was a B team match against the first team and he scored a banger killed the right back at that time in the in the took him on cut in top corner and you see here you go if he can do that because he was he had that confidence he knew that he was so good and uh he he just wanted to do it on against the the the big guys in the club. >> That sounds like he really made a statement uh when he was playing there. But it's interesting because of course the story of his of his career so far is that he has suffered a lot of rejection across Europe. Is that just a normal part of a young player's journey in this day and age? >> Um I don't know. Honestly, I'm not in a position to answer this question 100%. But I guess so. I guess so. You need to knock on many doors to be able to to get out there, you know. I mean, we can put examples. Moalah didn't didn't get his chance with Chelsea. You know, maybe you need to knock on doors until you find the right door to open and then hopefully get the chance to shine. >> Yeah, we can certainly see that. Now, did you expect him to go to the Bundesliga so quickly or was this partly as a function of relegation accelerating the timeline? >> Honestly, I don't think the relegation would have affected anything. Uh, after Yan playing for the first team and then shining out there in La Liga, first division, I expected anything. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if any big team came came for him. And I think his move to LIIPC was the perfect move at that specific time. >> Okay. And now, of course, it feels like he's been connected with a lot of people, but for us in in England, uh the main focus seems to be on him joining Liverpool and it's going on during the World Cup as well. He is at the center of a massive conversation in world football. If you were advising him on this, where would you suggest he would you suggest he should go? I'm not I'm on the spot here, but I appreciate I'm not not saying we're gonna hold you to account on what happens. >> No, no, no. [laughter] I mean I mean him being linked to Liverpool puts him out there. I mean I wouldn't be I wouldn't be surprised if any any team any top five clubs in the world came for him. Even if if it's Real Madrid or I mean he got linked to Liverpool, one of the greats of all time in the in in the game. So I wouldn't be expect I don't I wouldn't be surprised if if he goes if he goes to any of the top five clubs in the world. Now where would the perfect fit would be for him? Now let's go back and think about his journey in in in lifc to showcase. he got the chance to be the the number one man and if you want to speak about Liverpool with the whole changes etc with Salas eras is is gone I think it would be a good fit for him in Liverpool for two reasons number one I think he would be the main man and I think the fans would be very excited to see him if we want to compare him to to Rio's I think Yan has has is more developed I think and has more experience. Hence he played in the Bundesliga and was one of the top players in the whole season among all clubs. And the second point and uh I I've seen Raola's team in 2019 2020 he coached a club called Mirandes in second division Spain and uh in that club mainly it's young players. It's a very very very young team an average of 20 22 I think and he managed to take that team to semifinals in the cup Spanish cup. So being a second division club the youngest team among I think first and second division and managing a young group of players. So I think has this uh let's say cap capability in in getting the most out of of young talents. So, I think yes, Liverpool would be I think would be a perfect fit, but uh he needs to be the main man. I think he needs to get he needs to get game time. He needs to be the main man. He needs to be every weekend every weekend in the in the starting lineup. And this is the way I think Yan can can can go forward and and and keep shining. Brilliant to hear you speak of him in that way and and that you seem to see that Areola is the right fit for his development. What final question for what is his ceiling? >> I mean the fact that he's linked to Liverpool makes his ceiling is unlimited. No, I mean at at this specific age. So honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if if Yan gets to the top three players in the world and be a a candidate for the Boland door because he's now now a day everyone speaking about PSG's football attacking and so nice spectators loves it and maybe the football is going towards that no and everyone wants to see this type of player Venicious Yan Mbappe. So I think he's out there. He's he's out there among the greats and it's just about time I think. >> Oh, you've made me even more excited for to hopefully see him play regularly in the Premier League. Thank you so much for making the time to come on. We really appreciate it and we hope to see you again soon. Take care. >> Bye-bye. Who's that in the corner of your screen? Ben Jacobs has joined us. Ben, good to see you. How are you doing? Oh, you're muted. So, I'm just getting the sight of your face rather than the sound of your voice. There you are. >> The old If you're muted, you have to take a sip of Coca-Cola. But yes, good morning. Busy World Cup and a busy transfer window here in LA. >> I uh I've got my Coca-Cola C cup, which I think was from the Olympics rather than from the from the Euros. Um Ben, we've we've we've grabbed you in now. Should we get straight to some breaking news? >> Sure, let's do it. [music] >> This relates to Marco Pstra, who is formalizing his six-year contract at Chelsea with a one-year option. the medical getting underway about 4 hours ago and Pstra now set to sign. Chelsea's announcement therefore will be imminent because the formalities are being completed as we speak. Now the logic here was that Chelsea wanted a versatile fullback that could obviously play wing back just as comfortably and even anywhere across the defensive line. And key to Chelsea's decision to move here is the fact that Pstra can play on the leftand side and Mark Kukarea has already gone off to Real Madrid. So they've now got a few options. They're technically still Malo Gusto. We'll wait and see what happens there. Chelsea have got a high valuation. They're not desperate to sell, but there's another player that will likely have offers this summer. He can play on the left hand side if needed as was proven under Enzo Moresca. Valentin Barco is coming to the football club from Strasburg. another player also capable of playing on the left and don't forget Giovanni Quender and Yurel Hatau too. So Chelsea feel well covered on the leftand side but they were clinched in moving for Pstra because he is very much a twosided fullback. Now the fee is over 50 million euros. Chelsea sources tell me it's not that dissimilar from the bid that Inter made but is slightly higher and they've also offered a bigger wage comparative to Inter. So this was a classic transfer market hijack because in were relatively optimistic. They were reasonably advanced in the club to club talks and they thought the player wanted to join until Chelsea came calling and it was all done extremely quickly in about 24 to 48 hours after Chelsea decided to match the value of the selling club Atlanta and then from there the deal has happened at super speed. Now, Atlanta will bill this as a fee approaching60 million euros. As I say, Chelsea sources say it's in excess of 50 million and relatively similar to the kind of package that Inter were offering. So, Marco Pstra can now be considered a new Chelsea player on a six-year contract with a one-year option. >> Fantastic stuff, Ben. This is Market Madness from Gimme Sport. [music] Well, it is now time to dive into Ben's mailbag for the latest on the biggest transfer stories as we do every week on Market Madness. And we're so privileged to have Ben with us as ever today. Now Ben, as you heard at the top of the show, we spent a bit of time talking to Fesal Char who's worked closely with Yan Demande and the early stages of his career and worked with him at Lean. So someone who speaks so highly of that player and and gave us a bit of context around what it's hopefully potentially going to look like to see him in the Premier League playing on a regular basis. Do you have any updates on uh whether we should get comfortable with that idea? >> Yeah, I think Yandere Mande and Liverpool has always obviously been one to watch because he's Liverpool's priority. PSG could yet enter that race and Leipig could have a bidding war. So Liverpool have had one bid rejected 80 million euros and 20 million in add-ons. Leipig's asking price is €130 million euros. We heard some reports yesterday, not even really reports, more just social media snowballing that second bid had gone in. That's not my understanding and I don't think that outlets attributed to that alleged second bid actually ever wrote that story. So classic misinterpretation or misinformation on social media, but there hasn't at the time we're live been a second Liverpool bid. And Liverpool's point is clear. They want deer mandate, but it's not necessarily a hill that they're going to die on and drag it out all summer. So if this resolves itself sooner rather than later, then of course Liverpool want to proceed. And if Leipzig open the door to negotiation, they will. But if they feel that either one, PSG are going to come in and win that race, we're not there yet. Two, the player says he'll stay at Leipig and sign a new deal, or three, Leipig's not for sale stance doesn't alter. There are other targets. One scenario is of course that PSG get demand and it opens the door for Bradley Barka to Liverpool and Arsenal like Barka. Second is that there's three other clear targets that are concurrently being looked at in case the Amande doesn't come off. One is Sad Al Mara, one is Matas Fernandez Pardo and the third is Yuba Minta who is at Brighton. But for now, Liverpool haven't walked away from the Diamandday negotiations, but they are prepared to if Leipig's position doesn't change. And one of the reasons why Leipziger being so difficult is partly because they're always tough negotiators. That's the Red Bull clubs for you through and through. But it's also due to a World Cup where they can delay because the player has been focused on the Ivory Coast. also a character that is not inclined to agitate. He's very levelheaded and as we heard from Fasil, humble, focused, appreciative of Leipzig and in addition as Leipzig wait to see whether he will become open to signing a new deal. They're also ultimately assessing if they're going to get a bidding war because if PSG table a bid that plays right into Leipzig's hands. So all of this has made the timeline for a potential deal less controllable for Liverpool due to the variables that I've mentioned. As we start to get some of the answers, are PSG going to place a formal bid? Does the player communicate what he wants to do to Leipzig? Does he tell them that he'd prefer to leave now rather than a release clause and go in 2027? As the dust settles on all these different things, Liverpool will be in a clearer position to say, "Okay, now our next bid is going to get engagement, in which case they'll want to proceed quickly or alternatively decide lizig aren't going to change their position." And then there's the other targets that I've mentioned. So, we might have to be a little bit patient with this one now due to the World Cup. But it's fair to say that if Liverpool proceed with Yande, they don't want this to be a saga like Alexander Isac that drags on all summer. And as of now, Diamande still remains Liverpool's leading target. >> We have to they have to live in hope on that front. And Ben, great stuff clearing up with such precision about whether there's been a second bid in or not. That is exactly why so many people listen and watch market madness to hear that kind of insight that you can't get just from scrolling around on Twitter hoping to find out what people think. Now uh let's talk about Nottingham Forest because it looks as though Elliot Anderson Well actually how do you want to do this? It looks as though Elliot Anderson is advancing in the talks with City. Um so Forest have a hole in their midfield. >> Yeah. Yeah, I mean Elliot Anderson is joining Man City subject to formalities including a medical and the agreement was reached last night, but really there's been an agreement in principle for quite some time between the parties pending only final details and from Forest point of view, the owner of Angel Marinakis far preferred this to be a late June or early July deal so he could classify the funds on the next financial year. The fee according to city sources is 116 million, no add-ons. Other sources yesterday on the forest side were adamant that this is a deal worth up to 130 million, but city insist no add-ons in the end. So they took a deal that was rejected for 106 and 15 in add-ons and they effectively removed those 15 million in add-ons according to city sources and just went higher on the fixed fee and Nottingham Forest accepted. Although there is a discrepancy and some dispute from certain sources as to whether it might go higher. And you know, sometimes this can be down to just little hidden things that are either very unlikely or are not really your traditional bonuses. Like I'm not specifically saying for Anderson, but I've seen deals before that are just fixed fees, but you chuck in a if the player wins the balonor, you get another 10 million or something like that. And naturally therefore you might get some kind of unexpected payday further down the line. But that's speaking broadly about general other deals that I know of where players have had individual achievement type clauses that are not really the usual performance related criteria. But again, we got to respect City and all of this. They're adamant that the correct fee is 116 and that the 130 million is inflated and it can't be 130 million because City are adamant that there are no add-ons. So, we tried to reflect both sides last night and sometimes due to optics, you get these two different numbers, but City's perspective is 116 is the number, five-year contract with a one-year option, and it will be formalized now very quickly. and let's see if City move for another midfielder out because I was always led to believe that in addition to Elliot Anderson with Rodri ultimately not going to be at the football club forever and no closer to signing a new deal and Real Ma
